W&M is ranked ninth in the nation by womensfieldhockey.com, 14th in the NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll, and 18th in the BPRRatings.com computer rankings... The Tribe has won nine of its last 11 games, including victories over No. 8 Princeton, No. 11 Delaware and No. 14 Virginia... W&M s only losses during that stretch were at No. 3 Duke (3-2) and home against No. 4 North Carolina (1-0)... Jordan Steele leads the team with 29 points and five assists, and is tied for first with 12 goals... Kelly McQuade also has 12 goals and is second with four assists and 28 points... Stacey Gaenzle has started 15 games in goal with a 1.35 goals against average, 68 saves and one shutout. In the CAA Tournament This will be W&M s 13th appearance in the CAA Tournament, where the Tribe has a record all time... For the second straight year and third time in the last four seasons, W&M will be the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament... This will also be the second straight year W&M has faced Delaware in the semifinals... Last season the Tribe defeated UD, 4-1, in the semifinals, before falling to Old Dominion, 2-0, in the championship game.

Strong Finishes In recent seasons the Tribe has ended the regular season exceptionally well, and this year is no different, as W&M has won nine of its last 11 games... Three of those wins were against nationally-ranked teams (No. 8 Princeton, No. 11 Delaware and No. 14 Virginia) and both of the losses were by one goal against top-four opponents (No. 3 Duke and No. 4 North Carolina)... Balanced Attack Part of W&M s success this season is due to the fact that the team doesn t have to rely on just one scoring threat... That 6-1 league mark is also tied for the best conference finish in school history, matching last season s record, as well as that of the 1987, 1989 and 1990 teams in the South Atlantic Field Hockey/Lacrosse Conference. Hawthorne Looking For 200 Victories at W&M The Tribe s next win will be the 200th for head coach Peel Hawthorne in her career at W&M... Now in her 17th season at the College, Hawthorne has compiled a record of (.592) at W&M and (.598) in her coaching career, which includes four seasons at Division III Connecticut College... The Tribe mentor was named CAA Coach of the Year in 1995 and W&M Earns Five All-Conference Selections Five W&M players earned All-CAA accolades this season, including four selections to the first team, two more than any other school this season... No other team had more than four players earn all-league honors. She earned her first career shutout in an important 1-0 win at Virginia Commonwealth and is second in the CAA with.782 save percentage.
