3 President s Message... Dear Friends and Fellow Shooters, On behalf of the 2016 Ohio State Trapshooting Board of Directors and the staff of the Cardinal Shooting Center, I would like to welcome you to the 130th Ohio State Trap Shoot. I would like to thank the Fishburn family for allowing us to hold our State Shoot here at the Cardinal Shooting Center for the 11th year since leaving Vandalia. There are a lot of exciting things going on at the Cardinal Shooting Center this year with their expanded schedule and the hosting of the SCTP Nationals. The Ohio Wildlife Division continues to support the SCTP program and I thank them for that. Last year the weather did not cooperate with our shoot, but our shooters stayed and made it a great event. We honored our All-Ohio team and inducted three great shooters into our Hall of Fame. I would like to congratulate all the shooters who made the 2016 All-Ohio Team, All- American Team and those who won trophies at the Grand American. Two Ohio shooters, Joseph Charnigo and Chas Bloom shot against each other in the shoot-offs for the honor of bringing home the Grand American Doubles Championship. Congratulations Joey! As we begin the 2016 shoot I would like to list a few things that are new or are continuing in our shoot this year: **Resident and Non-Resident Champion, Runner-up and Third Place for all categories **Champion of Champions **Ladies Bingo **E-Z GO Golf Cart **60 Flats of Rio Shells (proceeds from both raffles benefit our Hall of Fame and Youth Foundations) I would like to thank all the sponsors and advertisers who have supported us this year. Without them, special added money and giveaways would not be possible. As you see them this week, please thank them for their contributions. A big thanks goes out to ALL directors and officers from the past 130 years for helping build great memories for the Ohio State Trap Shooting history. On a personal note I would like to thank Dave Schock for his service as the 2015 President and his support as I serve as the 2016 President. For the past several years I have helped coach the Greene County Youth team. It has been a rewarding experience for me. I would recommend that each one of you take at least one youth shooter under your wing and mentor him or her. The future of our sport depends on the development of our youth shooters. Good luck to all the shooters during this shoot and for the rest of the 2016 shooting season. Jeff Schlichter President

14 Dear Fellow Shooters, The Ohio State Hall of Fame Museum is entering its sixth year! Our collection continues to grow so stop by and see what s new! This year, I am very excited to announce that we are featuring two of our Hall of Fame inductees who just happen to be brothers David and Ned Berlet. We are also featuring the SCTP shooters and our collection of old targets. If you have anything of quality old photos or items that you feel would be perfect for our museum, please let me know. I would love to include it in the exhibit! We are constantly rotating the displays to keep the museum new and interesting from year to year and we are always looking for new items. We now have most of the Sportsman s Review and Trap and Field magazines, so feel free to stop by and browse through them. Please continue to be a part of this excitement and our growth by donating items and/or money large and small! Many of the museum expenses are paid through the success of our raffles, so keep buying those Rio shell and E-Z-GO golf cart tickets! As usual, the youth shooters are invited to stop in and pick up a free gift! Everyone is invited to our annual Hall of Fame reception on Thursday of the State Shoot. Please stop by to congratulate Dirk Meckstroth and visit with some of the inductees and their families. The reception is 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. We will have refreshments and music. Please come and be a part of this historical event. Everything is appreciated! We thank you for your support! Betty Peterson, Museum Director Ohio State Trapshooting Foundation

15 2016 HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES CLYNE BROTHERS Roger and R.E. (Bob) Troy/Tipp City, Ohio Clyne Bros. Inc., a family gun club supply business, invented and marketed the Clyne Electric Puller a device that revolutionized our sport by converting the cocking and release lever mechanism on trap machines from manual to electric operation. The Clyne brothers made it possible for one person to both score and pull because the trap was released by simply pressing a button. This saved the gun clubs time and money, and shooters began breaking better scores because the pulls were more consistent. Prior to their invention, traps were cocked and released manually by strenuously pulling and pushing a pipe which ran from the trap to a pull station behind the shooter. R.E. (Bob) began registering targets in He was an ATA life member and served as a scribe in the Okoboji Indians. Besides being a master machinist, he ran a hog farm, managed two restaurants in the Troy area and ran the famed Camp Troy Gun Club from the mid 1940 s to The club became known for its night shoots during the Grand American. Both brothers found they needed real jobs to support the trap business. Roger worked at Aeroproducts in Vandalia and his wife handled the office work at their machine shop. Roger passed away in 1988, and Robert five years earlier. These two gentlemen will always be known for changing the face of trapshooting. He began his career in registered shooting in 1982 and 10 years later, found himself standing on the 27-yard line. In his second year of shooting, he had his first 100 in the singles championship of the Indiana State Shoot. For encouragement and assistance, he did not have to look far as shooting was a family affair. From 1995 to 2014, Dirk and Dave Berlet won the parent/child category 16 times at the Ohio State Tournament and 4 times at the Grand American. Dirk earned a place on the All-Ohio Team as a Junior then went on to make the Men s Team for 20 years. He has over 16 Ohio State honors including winning the singles AA Championship with a 199 x 200 and the singles class championship AA with 200 x 200 at the 2014 state shoot. He has won honors in Indiana and Michigan, breaking his first 200 in the singles championship AA at the ARA Central Zone Shoot in Michigan. Dirk has won several Grand American awards- in 2003, he posted a 200 x200 to win class AAA in the Beretta Clay Target championship. Dirk is currently a AAA, 27-yard, AAA shooter. 21 A Message from Larry Potterfield, President of the MidwayUSA Foundation, Inc. The MidwayUSA Foundation was created to raise money for shooting teams for highschools, colleges, and universities all over America...over 20,000 schools in total! You can make a tax deductible contribution indicating the team of your preference to receive the benefit of your gift. Youth shooting teams provide wonderful opportunities for students to make friends, to develop confidence, and learn discipline and leadership skills, just like other sports. However, most schools provide little or no funding for shooting teams, so it s up to us to help. On our website you will find nearly every high-school, club, college, and university shooting team in America, the contributions received to date, the current active shooting programs for each school, and the anticipated funding for next season events. Your gift is tax deductible and will be invested with the earnings provided each year to the shooting teams. This allows your gift to provide permanent funding and truly change the future. Make a gift today specifying the school or schools of your preference to receive the benefits of your contribution. Your gift may support existing shooting programs or help new ones get started. So please join me in contributing and be generous. With your support, we can change the future. Larry & Brenda Potterfield 21
