2 The Murray Grey Youth committee welcomes all young cattle enthusiasts to our 2018 Arki & Errowanbang National Junior Stock Show. We have been working hard to ensure you all thoroughly enjoy this event, make new friends and gain further knowledge and experience within the beef industry. Please read the Conditions of Entry carefully. The Arki & Errowanbang Murray Grey National Junior Stock Show will be held in Wodonga, Victoria from Friday 20 th April until midday Sunday 22 nd April All entry fees must accompany entry forms. Entries submitted without fees will not be accepted. Entries Close Friday 16 th February 2018 All entry forms are online and can be found on the Murray Grey Website, MGY Facebook page or via on request. If there is an issue or question re: entries please contact: Annika Whale Ballot animals are available for those who do not have access to a Murray Grey animal All required information must be shown on the Entry Forms, including full name, address, telephone contacts and nominated T-Shirt size. All Details should be filled out. Separate entry forms must be submitted for each competitor. The National Livestock Identification System (NLIS), Australia s scheme for the identification and tracing of livestock. From July 1st 2005, all cattle must be identified with an NLIS device before they leave any property for any reason. NLIS Tags must be attached and displayed on cattle at all times. Scanning will be undertaken on the Showground. NO EXCEPTIONS. We encourage all competitors to stay on the ground with camping facilities provided at no extra cost. After the daily conclusion of schedules events, the handlers become the responsibility of their parent, guardian or own supervisor for the time at which events are not occurring. We encourage and appreciate that parents stay with their children for the duration of the show. Handlers are reminded to bring all their own sleeping/swag and bathroom gear. We invite parents to attend the dinner and auction on the Saturday night. Please note: The Murray Grey Youth committee will cease their supervisory role at the conclusion of the days events and responsibility will then be that of parents/guardians. 2

3 Junior Stock Show Information T-shirts will be supplied to all entrants, so a T-shirt size must be nominated on the entry form. The committee does not take responsibility for the wrong sizes. Please choose carefully All meals are provided to competitors for the duration of the event from morning tea Friday 20 th, until lunch on Sunday 22 nd. Special dietary requirements can be catered for, if stated on entry form. Ballot animals are available for those who do not have access to a Murray Grey animal Entries received on a per handler basis will cost: $ This includes: o Animal Entry $30 o T-shirt $25 o Meals for entire event $90 o Cap $5 o Also included are camping fees for the duration of the event Entry into the jackpot class will incur an additional $50 entry per animal Proceeds will be split as follows: (50% will be donated to the Regina Batten Charity) (12.5% Junior Hf, 12.5% Senior Hf, 12.5% Bull, 12.5% Overall Winner) Any entry forms received later than 16 th February, will incur a late fee of $20 All animals must be Pestivirus tested NEGATIVE & a copy supplied with entries, or otherwise arranged We have a novice section for those who have participated in less than 3 shows, please nominate on your entry form Parents are encouraged to be present for the duration of the event. We also ask for assistance from parents for this event to be successful IMPORTANT CHECKLIST! 4 Conditions of Entry 1. Entrants to be between five (5) years and under twenty-five (25) years inclusive as at 1 st April Handlers ages as of the 1st April 2018: JUNIOR 5 and under 12 years INTERMEDIATE 12 and under 18 years SENIOR 18 and under 25 years (Any section may be split into two divisions depending on the number of entries receive, or put up a age group) 3. Handlers are not required to be a financial member of the Murray Grey Breed Society. 4. Heifers and Bulls must be registered with the Murray Grey Beef Cattle Society. Commercial steers or heifers can be of purebred or crossbred breeding and do not need to be registered. Commercial cattle must be at least 50% Murray Grey. 5. Owners may have two handlers permitted per animal for the herdsman judging. 6. In paraders classes the one heifer may be paraded by different handlers in the four age divisions. The Committee will allocate heifers to handlers who do not have a nominated heifer. 7. Age of heifers shall be 10 months and under 24 months as at the first day of the show. This means heifers must born between the 20 th April 2016 and the 20 th June 2017 AND SHALL NOT HAVE CALVED. 8. Bulls must be 15 months of age and under 24 months of age as of the first day of the show. This means bulls must be born between the 20 th April 2016 and the 20 th January Calves of either sex shall be between 5 and under 10mths of age as of the first day of the show and must be paraded without the dam. Calves shall be born between 22 nd June 2017 and 20 th November All exhibits must have an acceptable temperament and be broken to lead. 11. All Bulls MUST BE EXHIBITED by competitors aged sixteen (16) and under twenty-five (25) years. 12. USE OF NOSE RINGS, NOSE CLIPS AND NECK STRAPS IS COMPULSORY. 13. Exhibitors to provide their own equipment and feed. NO PRESSURE WASHERS ALLOWED. 14. Inspectors nominated by the committee will be responsible for inspection of all animals tattoos and/or firebrands prior to judging. If incorrect, absent or illegible the animal will be disqualified from that class (The animal will still be eligible for handlers classes). 15. NLIS Tags are compulsory, as per the national NLIS regulations. The NLIS tags are to be displayed in the animals ears at all times. All animals will be scanned and reported of the stock movement to and from venue. 16. Any animal that is infected with ringworm must have a veterinary certificate stating that the animal has been treated or washed in the previous four (4) days with appropriate fungicide. Further washings are to be carried out on the showground under the supervision of a committee member. 17. Sawdust bedding will be provided. 18. Entrants under the age of ten (10) may be accompanied during led classes if required. 19. Non-participants are not permitted to take part in the preparation of animals after registration. Any breach of this condition can lead to the handlers disqualification from Herdsman Competition or the animal s disqualification from judging. This includes parents for competitors under 10yrs. IF ASSISTANCE IS REQUIRED PLEASE NOTIFY A COMMITTEE MEMBER. 20. Substitution and/or refund of either heifer or handler will only be permitted if the Committee is notified in writing 12 days prior to the show at the discretion of the Executive Committee. 4

5 21. ALL ENTRIES TO BE ACCOMPANIED BY THE ENCLOSED HEALTH DECLARATION, AND MUST BE DERIVED FROM A BRUCELLOSIS, TUBERCULLOSIS AND JOHNES FREE HERD. 22. Disruptive and unacceptable behaviour from competitors will not be tolerated. Unacceptable behaviour will lead to disqualification from the competition, (eg swearing). 23. No under age drinking will be tolerated. Competitors not abiding to this will face immediate disqualifications. Alcohol may only be consumed in designated area and at designated times as outlined at commencement of show by the committee. 24. There will be no smoking in the cattle sheds, toilets, eating or sleeping areas. 25. Boots must be worn at all times. Thongs, boat shoes and sneakers are unacceptable. 26. T-shirts will be supplied to all competitors whose entries are received by the 16 th February 2018 and are to be worn during the animal jackpot judging competition on the second day & at presentation. 27. Animal Insurance is the owner s responsibility. It is strongly recommended that livestock owners are covered by a current liability policy that extends to shows. PLEASE PROVIDE A POLICY NUMBER. 28. The Committee will supply shed cards. 29. No individual stud signs, stud curtains or ends will be permitted in the cattle sheds for individual exhibits. 30. ALL EXHIBITORS ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT MUST HAVE AN IN-LINE CIRCUIT BREAKER AND ALL POWER LEADS MUST HAVE A CURRENT CERTIFICATE FROM A REGISTERED ELECTRICIAN AS REQUIRED BY LAW. INSPECTIONS WILL BE CARRIED OUT. 31. No dogs allowed in the vicinity of the cattle shed, parading, tie ups and washing areas. Dogs must be tethered at all times. 32. The Herdsman Competition is judged over the three days. Aspects taken into account by roaming judges will include participation, teamwork, citizenship, presentation and animal care. To score well in this competition, senior competitors will need to assist their buddy. 33. Competitors are not to leave Showground without parental supervision and must have prior permission from the Executive Committee until the conclusion of the Stock Show. 34. While everything is done to ensure the safety of participants and their animals and every care will be taken by those in charge of the Murray Grey National Junior Stock Show, the Committee is not responsible for any accident or sickness that may occur through any source whatsoever. It must be clearly understood that each participant will only be permitted to attend the Stock Show on the understanding that the parent/guardian signing a consent form agrees to indemnify the committee against any claim. 35.PESTIVIRUS: ALL ANIMALS ARE TO BE PESTIVIRUS TESTED AND COPIES OF LAB RESULT ARE TO BE INCLUDED WITH YOUR ENTRY FORMS OR ORGANISED OTHERWISE. NO LAB RESULTS NO ENTRY. THEY MUST TEST NEGATIVE TO BE ELIGIBLE TO SHOW. 5

All you need to do is enter! Open to all exhibits of the 2018 National Junior Stock Show in Wodonga. Entry fee: $50 per animal Please note: Prize winnings will go to the owner of the exhibit, not the competitor. Enter your best exhibits in this section, to be eligible to win a jackpot of money. Conditions of entry: 1. All Conditions of Entry of the Junior Stock Show where relevant are applicable to the entry of calves, heifers or bulls in the Jackpot competition. 2. Jackpot judging will occur 3:30pm Saturday 21 st April 3. Entry into the jackpot class will incur an additional $50 per animal 4. Jackpot classes will be decided upon recipient of entries 5. Jackpot classes will be judged by a panel of 3 independent judges. 6. The owner of the exhibit, must enter the animal for the jackpot class, and the owner will receive the payout, not the competitor of the animal, unless the winning handler also owns the animal 7. Management and control of the animal jackpot classes will be in the hands of the Junior Stock Show committee and their decision is final CHANGES to 2018 JACKPOT 8. 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd ribbons will be awarded in each heat of the jackpot classes 9. There will be 3 divisions: Junior Heifer, Senior Heifer and Bull with the Junior and Senior split being decided upon receipt of entries % of the pool will be donated in 2018 to the Regina Batten Charity instead of being kept by the committee 11. The remaining 50% will be spilt 12% Junior Heifer, 12.5% Senior Heifer, 12.5% Bull, 12.5% Overall Winner 7

8 Herdsman Competition A Herdsman Competition will be conducted for the duration of the 2018 Murray Grey National Junior Stock Show at Wodonga Exhibition Centre. The competition will be judged by roaming judges from am Friday to pm on Sunday and is open to all competitors of the event. All participants will be judged on overall performance. This will include: Tidiness of stalls and equipment Condition of bedding and feed Personal appearance Grooming and general care of animal Showing ability General knowledge of the beef industry Teamwork Hoof Only Commercial Steer/Heifer Competition 1. All Conditions of Entry of the Murray Grey National Junior Stock Show where relevant are applicable to the entry of steers/heifers in this competition. 2. Entry is not restricted to members of Breed Societies or Associations. Any cattle breeder may enter. 3. Competition is open to purebred or crossbred animals which are at least 50% Murray Grey. Breed(s) must be specified on Entry Form. Entire males will not be accepted. 4. Entries must show no permanent teeth (Milk tooth only). All exhibits to be polled or dehorned.
