5 From the Executive Director - May 23, 2012 Cooperation Youth World Games Several generous donors stepped up to help pay for buckles that will be awarded to Youth World Games exhibitors. Buckles have been sponsored for the first-through-fourth place teams by Sam Noble, Gillespie Show Horses, Jim and Elaine Baker, and Mary and Robert Parrott. Awards for the fifth-through-seventh place teams have been donated by Preston and Susie Shaw, Ron and Linda Hill and Karen and Ken Kennedy. In addition, four classes have been sponsored (Showmanship, Horsemanship, Equitation and Trail) by Rockin Bar S Paint Horses, George Ready, Daranne Folino and Simons Show Horses. The goodwill these gifts purchase is almost immeasurable. Exhibitors from all over the world will carry back to their homelands valuable experience and a great feeling about the American Paint Horse during their time at YWG. Thanks also to Karen Thomas for donating the USA Team T-Shirts and to Anna Caroline Hutlas and Don't Rock My World, Sandi and Shawn Morgan and Sue and Danny Woodson for sponsoring the YWS Exhibitor T-Shirts. Buckle Auction Don t miss your opportunity to bid on and win a very special Gist 50th anniversary buckle in our American Paint Horse Foundation ebay auction. The item up for grabs is Buckle #50 of our very limited run of commemorative buckles. Beautifully designed by Gist Silversmiths, this collector s item is crafted in silver and gold electroplate with two semi-precious ruby stones. The buckle is a colorful reproduction of the 50th Anniversary logo featuring the distinctive APHA horse logo in brown and white resin; 3 ¾ tall by 4 ¼ wide. The ebay auction will start on Friday, May 25 and end on Friday, June 1. The winning bid will be announced at the Friday night Austin Ranch party during Workshop. In addition, the winning bidder will also receive an engraved leaf ($500 value) on the American Paint Horse Foundation Heritage Tree, located in the lobby of APHA s international headquarters. Proceeds from the sale of this buckle will benefit the American Paint Horse Foundation s Heritage program. The APHF is recognized as exempt from federal income taxation under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code and eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions. Your donation is deductible for federal income-tax purposes, subject to any limitation that might otherwise apply. Watch APHA.com the week of May 21 to get the link to the auction. The link will also be in next week's edition of Paint Perspective. Facebook Postings We ve been aggressively promoting the American Paint Horse over the last few months. I ve had a chance to speak with all sorts of equine media. Here is just one example. Check it out here: western radio show. Do you watch the fantasy drama Grimm on NBC? A Paint Horse named Mr Clu Tradition made his TV debut on last Friday s Bigfeet episode. In the episode, Clu is found wounded in a paddock and the show s veterinarian, Dr. Juliette Silverton (played by Bitsie Tulloch) is called out to examine him. She suspects that this is just one attack by the elusive and blood thirsty Bigfoot. To watch the episode, click Grimm. Owner Kelsey Schmunk sent us a picture of Clu on the set with Tulloch and a close-up of the realistic wound prosthetics that were applied to his neck. He was really good for the filming, she said. He loved all of the attention. And he really loved Bitsie. Clu will be back in the limelight this August as Kelsey s choice horse to ride in the Miss Rodeo Oregon Pageant. Kelly Brook Allen let us know that APHA stallion The Huntsman led the grand entry for all five shows this weekend at the Cloverdale Invitational Rodeo May in British Columbia, Canada. To find out more about the rodeo, see clover dale rodeo. Read five new updates added to the Health Updates page on APHA.com regarding the cases of EHV-1 after a trail ride in Tennessee in April (Bucksnort Trail Ride). For more, see health updates. 6

7 I love it when other publications highlight our Paint Horses. Check out page 6 in Quarter Horse News Insider with a beautiful photo and quote from reining rider Shawn Flarida about his experiences riding Spooks Gotta Whiz. Read more at quarter horse news. The porcelain and glass mosaic featuring American Paint Horses at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, Texas, is complete and the scaffolding is down. Exhibitors to the upcoming Youth World Show will be among the first to be greeted by these familiar faces on the side of the new Equestrian Multi-Purpose Building facing University Drive. Workshop Events More than 150 have registered for the gala festivities at historic Austin Ranch. Ping pong, western motif photos, an auction and the newest western game sweeping the national will be featured. The Cornhole Toss is similar to horseshoes with two-man teams vying for the prizes. Each entry pays $10 to play three innings. Spot your teams and purchase them in the Calcutta auction. The owner of the winning team will take home 25 percent of the pot. Each winning team will advance to the next bracket until the final winners are determined. The remaining 75 percent of the pot will go to the American Paint Horse Foundation. Sign up to play (limited to 16 two-man teams, first-come, first-serve) at the APHA registration desk; rules for the game will be posted there. And, it s not too late to help sponsor this event or others in honor of APHA s 50 years. Contact Theresa Brown at (817) or her at tbrown@apha.com as soon as possible.
