2 Dear Wagyu Breeders, On behalf of Bar R Cattle Co. We welcome you to Bar R Cattle Co. s second production sale. In 1989 we were part of a team that traveled to almost every prefecture in Japan to learn about Wagyu Cattle and get a good understanding of the breed, the Japanese philosophy, and their management practices. We gained enormous respect for the breeds standing as a national treasure of Japan. We were excited to start breeding Wagyu ourselves and have been doing so now for 28yrs. Our first calf was registered in Bar R Cattle Co. helped collect carcass data for the National Wagyu Sire Summary. This allowed us to decide which sires and lines to use for progress in carcass traits. We have used the Australian Breed Plan to evaluate milk EBV data trying to increase milk in our high carcass value cattle. For 7 years we have been evaluating our bulls and some of the heifers in a GrowSafe system to evaluate efficiency using average daily gain and residual feed intake data without losing carcass value. We are of the opinion that the addition of the polled gene into the Wagyu breed will be the future direction of many World Wagyu breeders outside of Japan For this sale we have put together a set of superior cattle, both male and female, that we hope will attract the purist Wagyu enthusiast as well as the commercial cattleperson. We are very optimistic about the Wagyu breed and excited to see how it will be incorporated into the cattle industries of different countries. It will not and should not be the same in every country, but because of these unique carcass traits, Wagyu genetics will influence the cattle industry across the world.
