July 15th: Austin Ranch Campout Calendar of Upcoming Events PREZ SEZ PINE VALLEY MOUNTAIN RIDERS June 2007 Hello again. Boy, has the time been flying by. Summer has shown itself and it looks like a fun summer is to be had. I m looking forward to the campout at the Austin Ranch. It has proven to be a good time each time we ve camped there. Please set the time aside to be there. am looking forward to. There has been a great deal of time and work put into this ride to ensure it is a success. Please get your payments in by June 1st and be there for this fun filled event. CRSPIA has a great plan for us all to enjoy, including the dance and meals. I ve had a few people ask about the chuck wagon. They are interested in sponsoring it at our campouts. The concern is, all the little things like using it. I assured them that if they are willing to get the chuck wagon to a campout, plan and get the meals, there will be more help than they will need. After having done it a couple times, I figure if I can do it, anyone can. No, seriously, thank you for volunteering and help will be there for you!!! Our Trail Boss led our Ice Cream Social Ride on May 20th. From what I heard, it was a great success. I wish I could have made it, but we had family in and many things to get done before this holiday weekend. PVMR has conducted its first meeting at the Buckel's Ranch for It was a good showing of members, but it would be nice to see more of you. Harry and Joanie do a lot to prepare for us and it would be great to be there to enjoy their hospitality. (He has new birds in the birdhouse.) I hope to see you at the next meeting, June 13th. The Jack Ass Mail Ride is just around the corner. Another event I Latest news from Ernie is that there have been a number of additions to the web site and things are moving along well. His last message was Haze Grey and Underway. That s an old Navy term for it is up and running. Please check it out at: and if you have any ideas that may be of help to us all, share them with us. If we like it, who knows, you might see your idea on our web page. Thanks for all your work Ernie. It is time to end this, so until our next meeting at the Buckel s, safe riding and happy trails. Gary Pine Valley Mountain Riders P.O. Box 31 Descanso, CA
2 Minutes From the May 9, 2007 PVMR Meeting (respectfully submitted by our Secretary, Marci Jones) Our first summer meeting at the Buckel's Ranch was called to order at 7:30 p.m. Ernie Smith led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Laurie Bernard, a returning member, was present. No treasurer report tonight. Treasurer Report: Old Business: Ω The Carne Asada Dinner was a another great success. The Town Hall was full 'til the last minute. Thank you to all the volunteers that cooked and served all day long. Once again, Harry Buckel was the "Ticket King," selling 63 tickets. Way to go Harry! Ω Earth Day did not bring out as many volunteers as expected due to the weather conditions. The Chuck Wagon and volunteers from PVMR showed up to cook. Thanks to all that helped out that day. Ω Our new website ( is up and running. Check out all the cool stuff on the website. Again, thanks to Ernie Smith and Dianne Schweiner for all their hard work. Ω Nancy Shull still has Jackass Mail Route postcards for.50 cents each. Remember not to mail them, but drop them off at the Descanso Post Office. They will be cancelled on June 16th. There will be booths at Gary McClintock's the weekend of the ride with postal paraphernalia for sale. Applications for the mail ride must be in by June 1st. New Business: The Sweetwater Bridge Ride and Ice Cream Social will be Sunday, May 20th. The ride will be led by Susan Blackmon and Mary Ann Cummings and will start at 9:00 a.m. sharp with a lunch stop at Azalea Springs. Ice Cream with toppings will be served after the ride back at Sweetwater Bridge. Trail Boss Report: Susan pre-rode the ride and reported a lot of trees are down, but also a lot of lilacs are blooming. Committee Reports: Ernie Smith, Vice President of CEA, reported that there is a meeting in L.A. on May 3rd regarding trails in the parks. We need to be aware of what is going on. The Staging area at the Boy Scout camp is now open. There is room for 11 to 12 rigs, but large rigs have trouble turning around. Please park heading out of the area and take all trash and horse droppings with you. Marty Jorgensen reported that the reenactment of the Jackass Mail Route on May 5th, from the desert to Los Vaqueros, went well. There were 14 riders. Sharon Heineke still has a generator 3500W for sale. Announcements: Brags: Marty is back working for the State Parks. He is setting up interviews with longtime Ranchers and Native Americans. We look forward to your writings. Rene Hijar won the 50/50. There was no mystery gift. Meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m. PINE VALLEY MOUNTAIN RIDERS 2
