1 2018 SOUTH DAKOTA HIGH SCHOOL RODEO STATE FINALS CONTESTANTS In the State Finals Qualifier packet on sdhsra.com is all of the information that you will need for the State Finals High School Rodeo to be held in Belle Fourche, SD June 13-16, Run the information in this packet off so it is readily available if you have qualified for the State Finals. In order to qualify you must have received at least three points in at least one event at the Regional High School Qualifying Rodeos. The position draw will be posted on the SDHSRA Website as soon as it is complete. Please check that information at If you find a mistake or have any questions, please call the State Secretary, Ann Sundermann, immediately. She can be reached by at sdhsra@alliancecom.net. or by phone at or Beginning Saturday, June 9th, you will need to call the number. Remember that you can only take points from your top 3 rodeos to the State Finals. As you will note there are two different sections for each event. If you are in the list that says TM/FN that means that you will be up in that event on Thursday 1:00PM and Friday night at 6:00 PM. If your event says TN/FM, then you will be up in that event on Thursday night at 6:00PM and Friday at 1:00PM. The position that you see on the draw sheet on the sdhsra website is the position in which you will compete. This will be reversed for the second goround. The Cutting, both boys and girls, will be held Thursday and Friday morning at 8:00 AM. Girls Cutting will go first, followed by the Boys Cutting. Finals for the Cutting will be held Saturday morning at 9:00 AM. The Reined Cow Horse event will be the last event in the Boys arena during the rodeo performances. The team roping will be the first event in the Boys arena. If there are conflicts with girls in the Girls arena and the team roping, the Girls arena will wait until the conflicts are over before the Girls arena begins. The Mandatory Contestant s Meeting is Wednesday evening, in the grand stands, at 7:15 pm. Calendar Coat pictures, Student Event Director (not alternates) pictures and Cinch Team pictures will be taken right after the meeting. Bring your calendar coats, if you received one, to the meeting. There is an entry fee charged at check-in. A fee of $20 per event and $50.00 per RCH and CTG event will be collected. Please bring your entry fee money when you check in and receive your back number. The Host Committee will collect a Facility Fee of $50.00 per contestant. Everyone must pay the facility fee. You will also be able to purchase any Weekend Passes for $50.00 and Programs at the cost of $3.00 each. You may write one check for any/all of these items. Remember that Check-In will be on Wednesday, 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM ALL CONTESTANTS MUST BE CHECKED IN BY WEDESDAY, 7:00 PM OR FACE DISQUALIFICATION. There will be no phone-in check-in or late check in. If you have an emergency you must call (Mary Kay) before 6:45 pm Wednesday. If you had a medical out at the regional rodeo, you must have a medical in to participate. Go-Round Awards are given in the form of a certificate to receive a free picture from the official photographer at the State High School Finals Rodeo. These awards are given for the 2nd through 4th placing in each event in each go-round. To claim your award, you must stop by the Cowboy Images trailer by the Rodeo Office and pick up your certificate for a free 8x10
2 photograph. It is your responsibility to come and get the award certificates. You may then take it to the official photographer s booth and choose your picture. If you have any questions, please check in the rodeo office. You will need the following information if you should make it to National s: Your social security number, the length and power needs of your trailer if you intend to camp in Rock springs, the number of stalls you will be needing, and your check book. Both of your parents will need to be there to appear before the notary, unless one parent has full custody of you or one is deceased. You will need these things to complete your National Team Paperwork. They cannot wait until the next day. Put them in your trailer now so you have them, hopefully you will need them! If you are a National Qualifier You and your parents/guardians are required to attend the National Meeting Sunday morning at 8:30 am the Belle Fourche Community Hall (511 6 th Street). The National Registration entry paperwork will be completed at this time, followed by the Awards Ceremony and pictures. Breakfast will be served and your families are certainly welcome.
3 SD High School Rodeo Finals, June 13 th -17 th, Belle Fourche, SD SD High School Rodeo Finals Host Committee PO Box 729 Belle Fourche, SD TO: From: SD High School Rodeo Finals Participants Vern Ward, Faye Pelster and Scott Reder Host Committee On behalf of the community of Belle Fourche and the Belle Fourche Host Committee, we would like to congratulate you on qualifying for the SDHSRA Finals. The finals will be held in Belle Fourche June 13 th -17 th, We have been working long and hard to prepare for the event and are confident we ll have another great rodeo. In order to ensure a memorable and pleasant experience for you and your family, we have enclosed information for review. Schedule of Events: A schedule of events has been enclosed. Belle Fourche & the Roundup Rodeo Grounds: A map of Belle Fourche and the Roundup Rodeo Grounds has been included to make it easy for you to find your way around town and the rodeo grounds. The Roundup Rodeo Grounds are located at the end of Roundup Street. Turn west between Dakota Mill and the Roundup Building Center and follow Roundup Street one block. Turn left into the Roundup Sports Complex. Registration will take place at the Plain s Towing and Recovery building directly before entering the Roundup Grounds. Please watch for Registration signs. Ticket Prices: $25 Day Pass $50 Weekend Pass $20 Short Round Pass Children 9 & under Free All seats are general admission Wristbands may be purchased for daily or weekend rates. The wristbands, or your contestant number, must be worn at all times to gain entrance. If you do not have a wristband or number, you will be asked to pay the gate fee again. Please allow the volunteer gate crew to do their job without complaint. Facility Fee: There will be no stall charges. Instead, each contestant will pay a $50 facility fee for the 2018 finals. Contestant Check-In: Check-in will be held at 301 Roundup Street (signs will be posted) on Wednesday, June 13 th from 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm. If you have an emergency and are not able to check in by 7:00 pm on Wednesday, June 13 th, you must call (605) or (605) prior to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, June 13 th. There is a mandatory Contestant s Meeting at 7:15 in the grandstands. There will be no late check-ins. If a contestant is medically released out of Regionals, they must have a Medical Release in order to compete at the State Finals. **Due to the EHV presence in South Dakota, contestants must provide a 48 hour health certificate with a temperature by a Veterinarian for each horse they bring onto the grounds. This is required for ANY horse brought on the grounds. Additional community information, such as places to eat and shop, will be available to contestants at the time of registration.
4 Stalling: 335 stalls with access to water hydrants will be available. Stalls are on a first come, first serve basis. Identification tags for the horse stalls will be provided and contestants are required to provide identification information in case of an emergency. Wood chips are not required and no cleaning fee will be assessed. Contestants are responsible for securing the stall gate (rope, wire, chain, etc ). Electric fence pens, personal portable stalls, or tying your horse to your trailer overnight ARE permitted. Please note that a few stalls will be reserved for calendar contest winners. Please do not remove the tags placed on the reserved stalls. Camping: Only self-contained horse trailers are allowed on the Roundup Rodeo Grounds and must be placed near the stalls. No electricity or water hookups are available. Self-contained campers are only permitted west of the rodeo grounds. Contestants Meeting: There will be a mandatory contestant meeting on the Wednesday evening June 13th beginning at 7:15 pm in the Grandstands. Saturday Final Round: The final round of the rodeo will be held on Saturday afternoon. This year, the short round will be held in both arenas. Award Recognition: Sunday morning, at 8:30 am, an award ceremony and breakfast will be held at the Belle Fourche Community Hall located at th Avenue. National Team qualifiers bring your Social Security number and both your parents to sign paperwork. NRA Qualifying Shoot: There will be a NRA Rifle qualifying shoot on Wednesday, June 13 th at 3:00 pm at the State Finals. PLEASE NOTE: The Center of the Nation Sportsmen s Club is again hosting the shoot and they are providing BEAUTIFUL TROPHY BUCKLES to the winners. Sign up in the Rodeo Office or sdhsra.com prior to Finals to compete. WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU IN BELLE FOURCHE!
5 To: 2018 SDHSRA State Qualifiers RE: Check-In YOU NEED THE FOLLOWING FOR CHECK-IN AT STATE * Health papers WITH a 48 hour Temperature are Required. *If you had a medical release out of your last Regional Rodeo, you must have a medical release in to compete at State Finals. * Check in will be on: Wednesday, June 13, 12:00 PM - 7:00 PM MST. * An entry fee of $20.00 per event/$50.00 for Cutting and RCH will be collected at check-in, along with a facility fee of $50.00 per contestant. Everyone is required to pay the facility fee. Weekend passes will also be available for purchase at this time. You will need to bring your money to checkin. Calendar prize coats will be handed out at this time. * If you have truck trouble or an emergency of sort you must call the emergency number of (Mary Kay) by 6:45 pm. There is no late check in this year. * Ann Sundermann, Secretary, can be reached at * Stall tags will be available at time of check-in and must be filled out in case of emergency. * There will be a Mandatory Contestants Meeting Wednesday evening beginning at 7:15 pm in the grandstands. The Calendar Coat picture will also be taken at that time bring your coat with you. * Entries close Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at 7:00 PM. * You must confirm your AQHA Horse of the Year at check-in, applications were due March 1. * If you are selected to be a Student Director, you must pick up your arm band at check-in. You will receive a letter or phone call indicating so, if you have been selected. The Student Director picture, not alternates, will be taken right after the Wednesday evening Contestant s Meeting. * Team Cinch members and all Student Officer Nominee s are responsible to help carry flags in the Grand Entry at each performance. Please be there. The Team Cinch picture will be taken directly after the Wednesday evening Contestant s Meeting. Please wear your Cinch shirts. *If you should make the HS National Team, you will need your SS number, and you and both parents must attend the national awards ceremony and meeting on Sunday morning, June 18th. Bring your check book also.

7 STALLING AT STATE HIGH SCHOOL RODEO FINALS IN BELLE FOURCHE - Stalls are on a first come, first serve basis. - The ONLY Reserved Stalls are for the High Calendar Salesperson in each region. If that is you and you have qualified for State Finals, call Faye Pelster to reserve the stalls you need at These are non-transferrable and only for those horses needed for your State Finals event qualifications. - Other than the statement above there are NO RESERVED STALLS - A stall tag for each stall will be provided to you at check in, put your cell phone contact number on it, in case something should happen to your horse when you are not there. - The Host Committee will provide enough stalls for the horses the contestants are using in the State Finals Rodeo. - You may set up a pen for your horses. - No padlocking stalls ahead of time to reserve them, the padlock will be cut. - If you are having trouble finding stalls call Host Committee Representatives Faye Pelster , Vern Ward , Scott Reder
8 HEALTH PAPER REQUIREMENTS FOR HORSES PERFORMING AT STATE HIGH SCHOOL RODEO FINALS IN BELLE FOURCHE Health papers WITH a 48 hour temp by a Veterinarian are required this year, 2018, for the State High School Finals Rodeo in Belle Fourche.

10 Shooting Sports Contest SDHSRA 2018 There will be the Qualifying shoot to qualify to compete at Nationals on Wednesday, June 13 th, beginning at 3:00 pm, meet by the office at 2:30 and you will carpool out to the shooting sites(center of the Nations Sportmans Club). Register at the rodeo contestant check-in prior to this time. If you know you will be competing in the Shoot, with your Name, which discipline you will be shooting in and your cell phone number and she will sign you up for the shoot. Sign up ahead of time in the Rodeo Office at the Roundup Grounds if you have not ed prior to the contest day. If you have not competed in another event at the Regional Qualifying rodeos, bring your year end report card it will be kept. Bring this to rodeo check-in before the event and you will receive your State Finals Back number. You are encouraged to bring your own shotgun or rifle, but it is not absolutely necessary. You pick 1 discipline, rifle or trap. You are encouraged to contact Steve McAmis about any specific questions at , or review the NRA Shooting guide on sdhsra.com, state finals. Top 4 Qualifiers have the option of competing at Nationals in Rock Springs, Wyoming July 15-21, and you must attend the National Qualifier Meeting on Sunday June 17 th, if you are going to compete. Prizes for the shooting contest are provided by the Center of the Nations Sportman's Club and given out at the awards ceremony at the Roundup Grounds, Saturday June 16 th, beginning at 1:00 pm.
