3 Guidance Notes for all competitors - please read For APHC classes horses must be APHC registered, the current owner AND exhibitor must be APHC members. Attire for APHC classes: In halter it is mandatory to wear appropriate Western attire, which includes long sleeved shirt, Western hat and cowboy boots. Chaps and spurs are prohibited. Horses must be shown in a show halter (NOT a bridle). At all times the personal appearance of exhibitor: neat, clean, well groomed, attentive and courteous and the horse should be clean, well groomed and in excellent physical condition. The exhibitor must walk, trot, stop and back the horse as directed by the judge. Exhibitors must lead from the left side of the horse. All turns shall be to the right with the exhibitors walk to the right around the horse. Any horse deemed out of control or a danger to other horses/exhibitors will be asked to leave the ring. Horses can be shown in American show halter, Western bridles or English show halters or bridles dependent on the class. Attire of the exhibitor to complement the horse and/or the class entered. Most Colourful Classes: Horses to be judged 60% on colour, 40% on conformation, action, substance, quality and manners. Foundation Pedigree Designate (FPD) Classes: Horses to be judged 40% colour, 60% conformation, action, substance, quality and manners. Horses must have FPD papers to enter. Hunter in Hand (). See ApHC Rule 713.E. Re attire and tack. For horses one year old and younger halters are mandatory. Attire of the handler should permit free movement. Jeans are forbidden. Horses to be judged individually on the triangle. Judging on the triangle: Horses will be judged individually on the triangle following a posted order. The horses will approach the judging area (A) and set up for inspection in the open position. The horse will then walk the small triangle and will then continue at a jog/trot following the larger triangle. At the completion of the triangle the exhibitor will lead the horse away. Judging 60 % movement, 30% conformation, 10% manners. In Hand Trail: Horse to be led by exhibitor through/back/over a range of obstacles i.e. coloured poles on the ground, bridge, cones etc. Pattern to be posted. Emphasis on manners, response to the exhibitor and attitude. Longe Line: 2 yr & 3 yr only. The purpose of this class is to reward (a) quality of movement (b) conformation (c) trainability. Horses to be shown in a halter the only attachment allowed to the halter is the longe line. The longe line may not exceed 30 feet in total length. It is permissible to use a longe whip. Conventional English or Western attire horse may be braided or not. The exhibitor will enter the arena and await the start signal. When the signal is given, the exhibitor will be allowed 1 1/2 minutes to present their horse. At the end of 1 1/2 minutes the signal will be given to signify the end of the run. It is suggested that the horses walk, jog, and lope in each direction as they will be scored each way. The horses are judged 70% on movement and 30% on conformation. If the horse plays on the longe line it shall not count against the horse however the judge may at his/her discretion penalise the horse for excessive bucking or running off. Horses must be of sound sight, wind and limb. After longeing has been completed all horses will line up halter fashion in order of go and prepare for final conformation judging. The judge will look for a total picture, emphasising balance and athletic capability. Dressage tests. Current British Dressage rules and tests will apply. Any questions can be directed to the Dressage steward/judge. The important thing to remember is that although there are placings, you are not competing against anyone other than yourself. NOTE FOR WESTERN RIDERS: Please note that although introductory tests can be ridden in western tack, the paces of walk, trot and canter are still necessary ie jog and lope are not correct paces for dressage. The following are some important addresses: British Dressage Ltd., NAC, Stoneleigh Park, Kenilworth, Warks., CV8 2RJ. Tel: Show jumping Current BSJA rules will apply. It is mandatory that hard hats conforming to latest EU and BHS regulations are worn. Correct tack for show jumping classes is also mandatory. Please note that these classes will only run if they are supported due to the limited amount of assistance available. The ApHC UK reserves the right to cancel theses classes on the day. Western Performance classes: WES/APHC rules apply to relevant classes. In all classes it is mandatory to wear clean, neat, Western type attire. Any horse or rider that threatens another competitor, or acts in a dangerous or discourteous manner, will be disqualified from the class. Patterns: all patterns will be available from the show office on the Sunday. Pleasure classes: This class will be judged on the performance, condition and conformation of the horse. Horses to be shown at a walk, jog and lope on a reasonably loose rein without undue restraint. Western Riding: An event where the horse is judged on quality of gaits, lead changes at the lope, response to the rider, manners, disposition. The horse should perform with reasonable speed, and be sensible, well mannered, free and easy moving. Horsemanship: Designed to evaluate the rider s ability to execute in concert with the horse a set of manoeuvres prescribed by the judge with precision and smoothness while exhibiting poise and confidence and maintaining a balanced, functional and fundamentally correct body position. Trail: This class will be judged on the performance of the horse while negotiating the obstacles, with emphasis on manners, response to the rider, and quality of movement. Credit will be given to horses negotiating the obstacles with style, authority and some degree of speed, providing correctness is not sacrificed. Horses shall be penalised for any unnecessary delay whilst approaching the obstacles.
