Summary Date: Oct.13th (Sun.) - 14th (Mon.) 2013 Reception Venue: Itsukaichi Kaikan, Akiruno City, Tokyo Start and Finish Point; Itsukaichi Kaikan, Akiruno City, Tokyo Course Distance: 71.5km of Okutama mountainous area in Tokyo *The race will be carried out even if it is heavy rain except heavy storm. 2. Profile of Mr. Tsuneo HASEGAWA Mr. Tsuneo HASEGAWA, born in 1947, was one of the top Alpine Climbers, who is well-known for the World s first winter solo ascent of the Great North Faces of the Alpes (Matterhorn in 1977, Eiger in 1978, Grandes Jorasses in 1979) and World s first winter solo ascent of the South Face of Aconcagua in He lost his life by avalanche while he was climbing Ultar Peak in Pakistan on the 10th of October, Mr. Hasegawa belonged to the Tokyo Mountaineering Federation (TMF). To commemorate his work, TMF began to hold Japan Mountain Endurance Race or HASETSUNE CUP exactly one year after his death. HASETSUNE CUP is now regarded as one of the top trail running races in Japan. 3. Course Description & Recommendations Itsukaichi Kaikan (200M above sea level, 0km) Start: 13:00 Oct.13th I 4.24km Imakuma Jinjya (Shrine) (506M, 4.2km) I 2.76km Iriyama Toge (Pass) (600M, 7.0km) Pre-check point, Time Limit: 16:00 Oct.13 th I 4.70km Ichimichi Yama (775M, 11.7km) Yama or San means mountain, peak or summit I 3.59km Daigomaru (867M, 15.29km) Pre-check point, Time Limit: 19:00 Oct.13th I 4.05km Shoto San (990.3M,19.34km) I 3.32km Sengen Toge (860M, 22.66km) 1st Check point, Time limit: 22:00, Oct.13th I 2.10km Hibara Toge (900M, 24.76km)-Dohyo Dake(1005.2m)-Maruyama(1098.3m)
2 I 3.02km Uzushiki Toge (1000M, 27.96km) I 4.23km Saibara Toge (1158M, 32.19km)-Makiyose Yama(1188.2m) I 3.40km Mito San, Hinangoya (1430M, 35.59km)-Mito san(1527m) I 2.43km Sayaguchi Toge (1140M, 38.02km) I 4.07km Tsukiyomi Daini Chushajo-Parking (1147M, 42.09km) 2nd Check Point, Time Limit: 04:00, Oct.14th I 4.48km Gozen Yama (1405M, 46.57km) I 3.20km Ohdawa (1142M, 49.77km) I 3.94km Ohtake San (1266.4M, 53.71km) I 4.29km Mitake San (929M, 58.0km) 3rd Check point, Time Limit: 10:00, Oct. 14th I 2.55km Hinode Yama (902M,60.55km)-Aso San(794M)-Konpira Yama(468M) I 10.95km Itsukaichi Kaikan (200M, 71.5km) Finish, Time limit: 13:00, Oct. 14th Hasetsune course is very tough with cumulative elevation gain of6000m. You need to put up with numerous steep ascending and descending from the beginning of the race. In addition, even the top athletes have to run more than half of the course during night and dense fog often appears at night. You should not rush from the start, but try to keep even pace especially until the 1st check point to save energy for the latter part of the race. As for the Hasetsune Spirit, each entrant must complete the entire course under his own power, and may not accept aid or assistance in any form from anyone. To this end, you must carry all equipments, clothes, foods & beverages by yourself and cannot be supported by anyone except 1.5L water aid at the 2nd Check Point. Therefore, you must be well-prepared and trained in order to finish the race. 4. Schedule Oct.13th (Sun.) Reception Desk: Opens between 10:00-12:00 Opening Ceremony: 12:30-13:00 Start: 13:00
3 Venue is Itsukaichi Kaikan (Town hall) Akiruno City, Tokyo Oct. 14th (Mon.) Award Ceremony: 9:00 at Itsukaichi Kaikan Race finish: 13:00 5. Rules & Regulations 1. There are 5 check points (CPs) with time limits. If you cannot pass each CP before the time limit, you are no longer able to continue the race. 2. Aid station is only available at Tsukiyomi Daini Chushajo Parking (42.09km) where you can receive 1.5L of water (no food or first aid) 3. You must carry at least 2L of water, food, rainwear, light &extra batteries. 4. Water is available at the following places; (1) Aid station at Tsukiyomi within 1.5L (2) Ohtake Sanso (55km), natural water (3) Mitake San (58km), natural water (4) Mitake Jinjya, natural water 5. You may use trekking poles (not skiing stocks), but only after passing CP1. (Sengen Toge, 22.66km) 6. You may not wear spike shoes. 7. Mountain rescue insurance of any sort is essential to participate in the race. Evidence of insurance (eg. Membership card) must be presented at the reception desk. 8. Conditions for disqualification are: to throw garbage away to violate any of the above rules and regulations. to get aid from anyone to violate natural preservation to shortcut the course to miss CPs within the Time Limits 9. If you drop out of the race, you must inform an official of your decision to withdraw. 6. Entry Qualification Entrants must be 16 years old or over on Oct. 7th, 2012 Consent of parents are required for those under 18 years old. Entrants are required to be physically fit and to run/walk the 71.5km course within 24 hour
4 time limit. 7. Entry Fee Adult: JPY15,000 (Members of Tokyo Mountaineering Federation; JPY13,000) High School Student (16-18 year old): JPY6,000 Fee includes accidental insurance for 2 days. Once paid, fee is non-refundable under any circumstances. Part of Fee will be contributed for environmental preservation activities for the race areas in Okutama, Tokyo. 8. Record Race time is recordeded by the IC chips on your shoes. Do not forget to put them to your shoes and not to lose them during the race. Chips must be returned when you finish or retire from the race. Goal Certificate will be issued at the finish line. Result of the race can be checked at our website ( 9. Prize Individual Categories:(Male & Female) Hasegawa's Cup for the 1st place Medals for the 2nd to 6th places Award Certificates for the 1st to the 6th places for age categories of 10s, 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, and over 70 Goal Certificates for all finishers within 24 hours Team Categories: One team is formed by 3 participants. Within those, the 6 highest rank teams are awarded. 10. Host The host organization is the Japan Mountaineering Sports Association, supervised by the Tokyo Mountaineering Federation, supported by Akiruno City, Tokyo
