On behalf of the all the team at the Asian Poker Tour, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the inaugural APT Asian Series Cambodia. In yet another milestone for the APT, we find ourselves in a completely new destination. It is truly amazing to be here in such a beautiful and historic part of Asia and the whole team is excited at hosting the first major international poker tournament in Cambodia. It is important to note that our tournament would not have been possible without the enthusiastic support of the management and staff of the Las Vegas Sun Hotel & Casino, our hosts this week and APT is looking forward to a long and successful relationship with this impressive venue. 3 all About Cambodia LAS VEGAS SUN HOTEL & CASINO TIME CLIMATE GMT + 7 hours GEOGRAPHY Situated in the southwest of the Indochinese peninsula, Cambodia occupies a total area of 181,035 square kilometers and borders Thailand to the west and northwest, Laos to the northeast, Vietnam to the east, and Gulf of Thailand to the southwest. LANGUAGE Khmer is the official language of Cambodia. While tourists may wish to learn a few spoken phrases before or when visiting Cambodia, English is widely spoken and understood. French and Mandarin are also spoken frequently in the country; most elderly Cambodians speak French and many people in the Khmer-Chinese population speak Mandarin. The dry period runs from October to April, when the dusty northeast monsoon arrives. Blowing like a hairdryer set to high, the northeast monsoon dries out the country very quickly. While November and January are quite cool (high C20s), by April the weather can be scorching and very dry. Characterised by heat and dust, this season coincides with Cambodia s peak tourist season when travellers arrive in their droves between November and January to take advantage of the lack of rain, enjoy the sun and the relatively cooler months. WHAT TO WEAR Lightweight, loose-fitting, cotton clothing is recommended for the dry season, when the weather is hot and humid. Visitors may wish to pack long pants and long-sleeved shirts for hiking, trekking, or outdoor activities. A hat and sunglasses may be useful for when walking around under the sun. CURRENCY The Rihel (KHR) is Cambodia s official currency, and is linked to the Vietnam Dong (VND). The exchange rate is 5.21 VND = 0.19 KHR. Roughly 1 USD is equivalent to 20,000 VND. While almost all foreign currencies can be changed at hotels, banks and authorized exchange dealers located around the city, US dollar remains the currency of choice in Cambodia. Most credit cards are accepted at many hotels, shops and restaurants. There are strict restrictions on the amount of currency, up to USD 5,000, which can be taken out of the territory of Vietnam and Cambodia. TIPPING Tipping is not traditionally expected, but tips can go a long way. A tip of US $1 might be half a day s wage for some local people. ELECTRICITY Electricity in Cambodia is at 220V, 50Hz. The power plugs used in Cambodia are of two-pin, squared shape or round-shaped type. It is suggested to check before using an electrical appliance. LOCATION Located in Bavet City, Vietnam-Cambodia border, Las Vegas Sun Hotel & Casino is an hour and a half drive from the Ho Chi Minh Airport in Vietnam and a two and a half hour drive from the Pnom Penh Airport in Cambodia. If you decide to visit the casino through the Ho Chi Minh Airport, you might need a multi-entrance visa issued by the Vietnam Immigration. You can apply for a Vietnam Visa online as well. Application fee is around US$ 70.
