3 Message from APT CEO APT ASIAN SERIES jeju Event Information On behalf of Everyone at the Asian Poker Tour, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the inaugural APT Asian Series Jeju. In yet another milestone for the APT, we find ourselves in a completely new destination. It is truly amazing to be here in such a beautiful part of the world and the whole team is excited to be hosting a tournament in Korea for the first time in APT history. It s important to note that our tournament would not have been possible without our magnificent venue partner of the Royal Palace Casino as well as the Jeju Oriental Hotel. As always, we must thank all of our players who show up time and again to make each APT tournament a success. It will be great to see so many new faces in Korea and I m sure that their first introduction to the APT will be one they will want to come back and experience again. In this regard, please take time to read the following information. TOURNAMENT REGISTRATION All participants in any APT event are required to register before entry into any APT event. Please present a valid ID (e.g. passport, driver s license or any government issued ID) to the APT Registration Staff and secure an APT Player Card at the APT Registration Desk. All buy ins to events at the APT Asian Series Jeju are posted in US Dollars. The Cashier can accept multiple currencies but will be based on the casino s rate at the time of the transaction. TOURNAMENT VENUE & SCHEDULE OF EVENTS All APT Asian Series Jeju 2013 tournaments will be held at the Royal Palace Casino located within the Jeju Oriental Hotel. Please refer to the schedule page for the actual timing of the events. ACCOMmODATION AND MEALS Special APT Player Only Rates are offered at Jeju Oriental Hotel. 4 ALL ABOUT JEJU Jeju Island (known as Cheju to Koreans) is the fishing and agricultural capital of South Korea. The volcanic island which is off the south eastern tip of South Korea is 73km wide and 41km long with a total area of 1,848 that makes Jeju the largest island in South Korea. The mountain is approximately in the centre of the island so you can see it anywhere on the island. Jeju Island is known as the Island of the Gods. Some even compare the island to Hawaii because of its stunning rock formations, waterfalls, and other natural attractions that cannot be seen anywhere else in the world. Time UTC/GMT+9 Language Korean is the official language of Jeju. As the tourist trade in Jeju Island has grown larger in recent years, it is increasingly common to find some taxi drivers who speak English, Japanese and Chinese, especially in Jeju City. Furthermore, the vast majority of service and tourist industry workers are required to speak English, Mandarin, or Japanese. Currency Won (W) is Jeju Island s official currency. Approximately 1,067 won is equivalent to 1 USD. Banks in most high streets offer foreign exchange services; any major currency is accepted but US dollars are the easiest to exchange. More and more establishments in Jeju accept foreign credit cards, but there are still plenty of yeogwa (little hotels), restaurants and small businesses that don t. Climate Jeju has a mild oceanic climate throughout the year with the smallest annual temperature range in the country. The temperature for the hottest summer months averages no more than 34.7 and no less than -1.5 on winter. The beach season runs from July to September. The climate features a hot summer, the usual air temperature being 26 C (highest 33 C), highest water temperature of upper layers is 28 C. It has a warm and dry autumn when the air is becoming cooler and water temperature remains as in summer (24 C) until October, short and mild winter with snowfalls in the northern part of the island and in highland, while in the southern part farmers harvest tangerines; And finally a warm spring when everything blooms. During all seasons except summer, the island is known for being very windy. Winters in Jeju Island are rather short and warm, compared with those of the mainland. What to wear What to wear in Jeju-do practically depends on the season. Winter in Jeju Island may be not as cold as Seoul s, but people come out wearing typical winter clothes just the same. In spring, Jeju-do fashion involves light shirts, slacks and anything that blends well with the beautiful spring blooms. It is practically the same in autumn. Basically, since this is an island, tourists are expected to dress down. Wearing light clothes, jeans, 3/4 pants or shorts are fine. Caps and shades are also very fashionable and wearing floral design won t hurt at all. Locals and tourists might also want to have rain gears ready since Jeju is the rainiest place in Korea. Summer is beach season so people there wear the usual summer outfit. Electricity Electricity in Korea is at 220V, 60Hz. The power plug used in Korea is of two-pin, round-shaped type. It is suggested to check before using an electrical appliance. NEARBY ATTRACTIONS Yongduam Rock Situated to the north of Jeju city, Yongduam was created by strong winds and waves over thousand years ago. Yongdu means a head of dragon in Korean. Halla Moutain Situated in the heart of Jeju Island, Mount Hallasan (1,950 meters) is the highest mountain in Korea and a dormant basalt volcano. The landscape is beautiful throughout the year and a diverse and rare ecosystem can be found at different altitudes. As such, Mount Hallasan is a Natural Conservation Area.
