1 Issue 03 Month July WHITTLEY CLUB 2013 Year May, 2013 Dear Whittley members With the resignation of Herbert Porter as President, and our term as committee members well over 6 months, we feel that the three of us can continue as a unit to steer the club to the next AGM. If members feel there is a reason or necessity to fill the position forthwith, please let us know. Whilst we put in place the necessary tools to assist the club and update our Constitution etc..... we would certainly welcome any feedback or advice. We have appointed Sue as Public officer, and will continue running the club diligently. On behalf of the committee Robert Risse Commodore (Please feel free to ring me any time) Lake Lyell is 98% full and the event will go ahead as a club event on the 11th August. For your convenience I have attached a few pics with maps etc. The roads are all well marked and bitumen all the way. The trip from Penrith will take approximately 1½ hr through Katoomba, and a good 2 hrs. from Hornsby via Windsor. The turn off the highway through to Lake Lyell is well marked and will take approximately 15minutes. The turn into the park comes up quickly once you drive over the dam wall and is on your right with only a small sign to show the way in. If more assistance is needed please phone me. For those who wish to go Friday 10th I shall be there in the afternoon. (Please let me know of your intentions). I am envisaging a nice camp fire and BBQ on Saturday night where we will sit and socialise and for those interested you can throw a spud into the fire for an old fashion potato bake (wrap them in alfoil or for that boy scout burnt spud taste throw it straight in without peeling, butter/ sour cream/ pepper & salt and a bluey to hold it with YUM!), don t forget warm gear and bring your chairs. There will be a fishing tournament to see who can catch the biggest Trout!! For the super fit and active there are walks around the lake and you may even see some wild life. The fresh water will be treat for your motors. Robert Risse

2 From Sue Denton WHITTLEY CLUB 4WD Adventure without the boats. We left Mount Victoria, 9.am Saturday morning. 13 4WD headed off into the fog. The entrance to Jenolan Caves Jenolan Caves are, without question, Australia's most impressive limestone caves. Situated in the blue mountains wilderness. Making our way past Jenolan Caves house. Caves House features warm country hospitality, grand dining, log fires and indulgence. It has been an iconic wilderness getaway for pampered explorers, since 1896 and is the only remaining guesthouse of its kind in Australia.

5 Commodores Tips Just thought I mention that there is a way to anchor with more confidence and not depend on a mooring. Most have a navigation aid on board such as a Navman. Have it turned on, and set the anchor alarm. Usually depending on depth, tide, current and wind conditions, you would set this at 10nm,15nm or more. Make note of co-ordinates and be aware of the tides. When your boat moves out of these radii it will sound an alarm. Don t panic if this happens, it just letting you know that you need to attend to a movement. Usually the tide has gone out and the length of the chain/rope has increased the radii At the New Year s Eve outing at least 4 boat owners did not know how to set it up correctly or knew the capabilities of their navigation aid. Any boat owner that needs a guide on how to set and read there instruments, I am happy to pass on any knowledge I have. Another quick tip is to check your anchor. An incident saw a member lose their anchor in the New Year. This was probably caused by the shackle being worn or not tight. Equipment needs to be checked from time to time. 6 From Peter Holyoake Hi everyone Three of our committee spent Easter on the Murray firming up arrangements for the 2014 Easter Regatta. The cruise will be between Renmark and Walkerie, a total cruising distance of 186km and the likely itinerary will be as follows: Good Friday: Easter Saturday: river bank) Easter Sunday: Easter Monday: Launch and cruise to Berri (overnight) Cruise from Berri to Loxton (lunch) and then towards Kingston (overnight camping on the Cruise on to Kingston on Murray for overnight and Pioneer Dinner at Banrock Station. Cruise to Walkerie. Bus back to Renmark to pick up the trailers and retrieve boats. There may be an opportunity to retrieve at Kingston for those who wish.
