1 1 Yacht Squadron NEWS ABN Buccaneer Drive, URANGAN Commodore Secretary Treasurer PO Box 7229, URANGAN, 4655 Ros Richardson Tiffany Wardley Cayley Berndt (07) (04) Hervey Bay The weather forecasts were pretty accurate the predicted 15 knot sou-south westerlies provided a fast sail for yachts sailing in the Burrum Cup last Saturday 11 th August. Two divisions contested the event 10 monohulls and 7 multihulls a combined fleet of 17 yachts The race started near the end of Urangan Pier just after 10am. The course was a downwind leg from the start northwards to the S1 beacon, and from there on a close reach leg westward to the entry of the Burrum River. Some yachts had difficulty setting spinnakers in the fresh breeze just after the start, but the breeze settled and soon most of the seventeen yachts were flying their kites on the run out to S1. First yacht across the line on elapsed time was Ballistic 31 catamaran Stir Fry (Trevor Brown) followed by Barrink 10 catamaran Pork Chop (Daryl Dorsett), with F82R trimaran Aquillo II (Geoff Smith) in third place. On corrected times (PBH) in the monohull division, Halcyon (Ron Parry) took first place and Africa (David Norman) was second. Rip It Up (Jamie Berndt) lived up to her name by capsizing and ripping up her new spinnaker. The crew of the boat did well to recover and maintain speed to finish in third place. On corrected times (PBH) in the multihull division, Stir Fry won the race with Pork Chop second and Seawind 24 catamaran Red Ted (Gavin Patterson) third. A BBQ dinner and trophy presentation was held in the Lions Park at Burrum Heads in the evening after the race. Most yachts and crews stayed overnight and had a leisurely cruise back to Urangan on the following morning. The next event for the HBBC Yacht Squadron will be Winter Series races 6 and 7 on Sunday 26 th August.
