6 Refugio BBQ Picnic and general good time Death o e had a ear-chu k Norris e perie e. Chu k Norris tells Si o hat to do. Well another fine Channel Islands Divers event neatly tucked away in the history books. Saturday the 9th of September CID once again occupied a large area at Refugio State Beach for our annual BBQ Picnic and general good time event. We got lucky with the heat by a week. It was a nice sunny day, not the pizza oven hot we all had the weekend before. We had plenty of those shade thingy s and the food, we talk weight not pieces here. If you went home hungry, blame your diet. But then if you broke your diet we ll take credit for that. By my un-official count we had around 50+. Un-official because it s not easy counting from one of those low sitting beach chairs, holding an adult beverage in one hand, counting on the other hand as the people move about the area all while you try to stay up with a conversation. That s my story, I m sticking to it! But the unspoken highlight has to be the advancement from protege BBQ Specialist to Grand Master Flipper of one Grand Master Aficionado BBQ er Robert Soriano s own. Robert was on hand in case he was needed and to assist where required but the protégé was holding the Main Tongs. Making his first Channel Islands Divers appearance at the main grill as a solo practitioner, I give you Dave Whitmer. And he lived up to the high standards set by those that came before. As always the food was excellent. Congratulations Dave Whitmer, great job. 6

That list of the lucky few, The Progression of the Progressive list. Winner need not be present. Only the winning TICKET needs to be here. er s Raffle Wi us, oops, sorry, we re not open tonight. But should they let us in, I think the plan is to eat dinner, listen to our guest speaker then raffle, raffle followed by yet more raffles. We have some catching up to do! 8 The board, venting, membership Speaking of the September General meeting, that had to be one of the biggest non meeting meetings I ve ever been party to. The best I can come up with is what a cluster. And that was my fourth draft! First my internal censors stopped me followed by auto correct and spell checker. Then the grammar correction. I had no idea there was a formal way of phrasing what I was thinking. So what a cluster is all I have. A bad turn of events handled poorly. Wait till almost the last minute then call someone from a 9 year old list and leave a message. To their credit they tried again, this time off a year old list. He answered and relayed the message to the Board. What the hell, 50 or so people from all over the county driving during rush hour to YOUR restaurant for a meeting, just like EVERY third Wednesday of EVERY month for the last 15 YEARS!!! Maybe they thought what, we d all just spontaneously miss that night, right? I could go on and on and on. So, what do you all think? Really, we want to know. I want to know. Send me an , editor@channelislandsdivers.org and give me your 2 cents. You are hereby given permission to vent. Let it rip, take it out on me, pretend it s my fault, don t hold anything back but keep in mind when we meet in person later, it really wasn t me. Maybe I ll post a few. Really, I want to know what your thinking. by Mike Cunningham Board of Directors Connie Young, President president@channelislandsdivers.org Brandee Sisting, VP/Speaker Seeker vicepresident@channelislandsdivers.org Mike Doyon, Dive Coordinator dive@channelislandsdivers.org Not I depe de t** Teresa Bertuzzi, Secretary secretary@channelislandsdivers.org Karen Duran, Treasurer treasurer@channelislandsdivers.org Mike Cunningham, Newsletter Editor editor@channelislandsdivers.org Laurie Hennessy, Webmaster webmaster@channelislandsdivers.org Bob Cartier, Raffle Coordinator raffle@channelislandsdivers.org Membership going strong M e m b e r s h i p P o l i c y: Club policy is to drop members from the roster THREE MONTHS AFTER MEMBERSHIP EXPIRATION.
