3 Lynnwood Neighbourhood Watch News!! Hello Lynnwood Residents, Always: 1. Be Alert to what is happening in your neighbourhood. 2. Know your Neighbours. 3. It is important that you report suspicious activities and crimes to the proper authorities. 4. Most of all, Stay Safe! Crime Prevention Tips Time is a Thief s Enemy. No vehicle or anti-theft device is 100 per cent theft-proof, and discouraging thieves is not an easy task. But we know a thief s greatest enemy is time. The more difficult your vehicle is to steal, the more time it takes to be stolen. The more time a thief has to spend stealing your vehicle, the greater the chance of detection. By making your car a tougher target, the thief will probably move on to a car that is easier to steal. Simplicity is the Key to Theft Prevention Lock your car and pocket the keys; Never leave your car running unattended even for a minute; Use a visual deterrent; such as the Club. Here are some TIPS to ensure that the only stranger to drop into your house does so thru the chimney!! Ensure your home exterior is well lit at night. If away from your home, have a neighbour or friend clear your walk and remove excess mail and flyers. Don t know your neighbours? Get to know them! They can be very valuable security for your home!! Consider using a timer for lights, TV and radio or intermittently leave lights on in different rooms, even during the day. Do not display all your holiday gifts in view of large windows. After the holidays, discard your litter accordingly so that bad guys cannot see that you just got a new 46 inch TV. This may entice them to break in and make it theirs. Record all serial numbers for electronics and perhaps engrave your driver s license number on them for further identification. Photograph or videotape your valuables for insurance purposes. Notify your alarm company when you will be away and have updated key holder information. You can now access your Community s Crime Stats online by logging on to Bruce Nixon Lynnwood Neighbourhood Watch Census Data Now available from most recent census in early 2016 Check out for data about the entire City, by ward or Lynnwood neighbourhood specific Stay connected to the community or Lynnwood Community Edmonton

5 President s Pen Hello Lynnwood Community, I hope all of you had a fantastic summer and that your families were able to take advantage of the green shack and summer camps that took place at the community league. Our annual corn roast was a hit with many families coming out to enjoy the activities and live music from Ken Pederson's brother Ron 'The Mullet Man' Pederson. The board took a break over the summer while everyone was away but there s a lot to be excited about over the next few months. We've got indoor soccer and hockey season just around the corner and some exciting events at the hall to look forward to. As always we still appreciate all feedback that our members provide so feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have or if you're interested in getting involved! All the best, Kris Peckitt
