1 Warwickshire Police Rugby Town North Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) May 2017 Beat Areas Newbold on Avon Benn - Brownsover North Brownsover South Crime Overview Rugby Town North Policing area: This section looks at the crimes of public interest that have occurred on the Rugby Town North Safer Neighbourhood Team policing area. Below is a brief summary of some of the incidents that have been reported to us over the last month: Anti Social Behaviour A total of 72 ASB calls where received on the town north area in April These include a number of neighbour disputes, youths hanging around Junction One and Elliot s Field Retail Parks, nuisance bikes in the Newbold Quarry Park, youths hanging around Winfield Rec and Millennium Park. Burglaries Rugby Town North Team PS Stuart POWELL PC Paula KETLEY PC Andy CROUCH PCSO Catherine DONNELLY PCSO Samantha EDMUNDS PCSO Amy LANGSTONE A total of 13 Burglaries where reported on the town north area in April Various items such as small electronic devices have been stolen from properties mainly around the Caldecott park area of town. A garage was also broken into and a moped was stolen.

2 Theft A total of 44 thefts where reported on the town north area in April of these where thefts from the retail parks on Leicester Road. 3 Push bikes have also been stolen. 2 shoplifters where detained and dealt with by fixed penalty notice. There have also been thefts of fuel from petrol stations. Vehicle Crime A total of 14 vehicle crimes where reported on the town north area in April Three mopeds were stolen; one of these has been recovered. Three vehicles have been broken into, cash and sat navs have been stolen. Damage has been caused to wing mirrors, number plates have been stolen and 2 vans have been broken into and tools where stolen. Appeals News and Updates/Information and Advice Parking The Rugby Town North Safer Neighbourhoods Team currently has local priories that include patrols to detect and deter parking offences. Please remember NOT to block driveways, junctions and pavements. School crossing patrol sites and yellow zig-zag lines must be left clear, so that pedestrians can be seen clearly by drivers and visa versa. Should you park in contravention of the legislation and considered to be causing an obstruction, the keeper/driver may be issued with a fixed penalty notice which is currently In extreme cases, the vehicle may be recovered and this will be charged to the keeper / driver, the fee for which currently stands at 150. Bike Register Bike register is a great way to secure your bike and make it less of a target to be stolen. It also means it can be easily returned if recovered by The Police. Your details will be entered on a secure database which all the Police forces have.

3 Take a few simple steps to avoid becoming a victim of a burglary Set a timer switch to turn your lights on when it gets dark unlit houses are a give away that no one is home. Lock your doors, patios and downstairs windows even when you are in. Make sure you double check them before you go to bed. If you have a burglar alarm, make sure you set it when you go out and also when you go to bed Don t leave car keys, ID cards or valuables near windows, doors or letterboxes, where burglars can reach through to steal them. Lock your garden gates and side entrances. Don t leave tools lying around the garden which could be used to break in to your home. If you have information about a burglary phone the police on 101 Priorities The current priorities for Rugby Town North Safer Neighbourhood Team are as follows: To detect and deter school parking issues around Brownsover To detect and deter parking issues around Benn Beat To detect and deter traffic offences along Newbold Road to include parking and speeding Although these are currently the main SNT priorities, we will continue to monitor any issues that have been raised previously.

4 Good News Stories Vehicle Seizers Vehicle was seized on Boughton Road, Rugby on Thursday 30 th March 2017 for expired tax. Vehicle was seized on Lancaster Road, Rugby on Tuesday 4 th April 2017 for expired tax. Vehicle was seized on Sandown Road, Rugby on Sunday 23 rd April 2017 for being in a dangerous condition.

5 Careers Day at Northlands Primary School On Tuesday 4 th April 2017 PCSO Sam Edmunds, PCSO Amy Langstone and PC Andy Crouch attended Northlands Primary School Career Day. We spoke to the children about the role of a police officer and police community support officer. The children and teachers also got to have a look around the police van and put on the blue lights and sirens. They also got to have a look at the equipment and uniform that we use. They day was well received by the children and were keen to join the force!

6 Crime Prevention Event On Thursday 20 th April 2017, PCSO Sam Edmunds, PCSO Catherine Donnelly and PCSO Amie Hextall along with the community safety wardens held a crime prevention event in Caldecott Park. This was due to an increase in burglaries in this area. Crime prevention packs and various crime prevention advice was given to local residents and hints and tips on how to keep their houses and belonging safe. Nuisance bikes Newbold Quarry Park Due to calls regarding nuisance bikes in the Newbold Quarry Park, a warning notice has now been placed on the Avonmere entrance to the park. This is to warn people that vehicles will be seized if they are riding bikes in an anti-social manner around the park. A section 59 is a common tool now used by police constables and police community support officers (PCSOs) to seize vehicles being used in an antisocial manner. Vehicles can be seized by a police officer / PCSO who reasonably believes that a mechanically propelled vehicle is being used in a manner: causing, or likely to cause alarm, distress or annoyance to the public, and: o contravening section 3 (careless/inconsiderate driving), or o contravening section 34 (prohibition of off-road driving/driving other than a road) of the Road Traffic Act 1988.

7 High visibility cycle patrols PC Andy Crouch has been racking up the miles on the push bike this month by conducting high visibility patrols around the Town North area. He has been targeting the areas were we have been receiving anti-social behaviour calls. These areas include Elliot s Field Retail Park, Junction One Retail Park, Newbold Quarry Park, Williams Street and Oxford Street. If you are having issues with anti-social behaviour please report this on 101 and the team can be made aware. This way we know where and when to target our patrols. Speeding results for Newbold Road The mobile speed camera van visited Newbold Road 5 times during March & April 2017, a total of 45 vehicles have been recorded exceeding the speed limit. Vehicle checks on Boughton Road On Thursday 27th April 2017 PC Ketley and PC Baker conducted a joint patrol targeting HGV s in contravention of the weight restriction on Boughton Road and Newton Manor Lane. This is after an increase in complaints from residents living within the area. In the space of one hour, four vehicles were ticked for breaking the weight restriction on Boughton Road. PC Ketley said that "statement" letters have been delivered to the transport mangers at the nearby industrial estates and further patrols will be conducted over the next few months. It is hoped that this will elevate the issue of vehicle over 7.5 tonne bypassing the Leicester Road/Technology Drive by using Boughton Road. Further checks have been done by PC Crouch on Saturday 29 th April 2017.

8 Brownsover Brew New Community Café in Brownsover. Community Development worker, Jennifer McCabe has recently set up a new community café in Brownsover. It will run every Tuesday between 1pm-5pm at Christchurch, Helvellyn Way. Local residents are encouraged to attend and support the community project which has already been a success within the first few weeks of its launch. Both Jennifer and PCSO Catherine Donnelly will be hosting drop-in surgeries during the final café session of each month. See dates in the events section. Child car seat safety training PCSO Sam Edmunds attended a course on child car seat safety along with other officers from Rugby s safer neighbourhood s teams. The officers received training and finished the day with IOSH accredited test. PCSO Sam Edmunds passed the test with a merit. This means that Sam can now check and advise parents and guardians on how to fit child car seats. Future car seat safety events will also be advertised on future newsletters. Wednesday 31 st May Police community drop-in with PCSO Samantha Edmunds at Newbold-on-Avon Methodist Church between 15:15 and 16:15. Monday 12 th June Police community drop-in with PCSO Samantha Edmunds at Newbold-on-Avon Methodist Church between 12:30-14:00.
