TICC #National Palace Museum Introduction# The Taipei National Palace Museum is a world-class museum that hosts an eclectic collection of treasures kept by generations of Emperors ruling from the Forbidden City. In WWII, Nationalist troops seized the most important pieces in order to prevent invaders from ransacking China's national treasures. A twist of fate eventually brought these treasures to Taiwan. The Taipei National Palace Museum is designed in the style of a Northern Chinese palace. The museum is home to hundreds of thousands of historical relics that make up the world's most comprehensive and precious collection of ancient Chinese artifacts. The entire collection covers 5,000 years of China's historical and artistic achievements. TICC #Taipei Public Library Beitou Branch Introduction# Apart from being famous for its hot springs, Beitou is also home to Taiwan s first green library. This distinctive structure is located in the lush green environs of Beitou Hot Spring Park, near the Beitou Hot Spring Museum. This library was the first building in Taiwan to receive the certification of Green Building. The structure makes generous use of French windows and natural light, and blends in with the surrounding environment. Built mainly of wood and steel, it resembles a large treehouse just waiting to welcome visitors. Beitou Library is green from inside to outside! Part of the roof is covered in solar panels, which can store up to 16KW of power. The wooden balcony railing is also eco-friendly; its vertical design conserves energy by reducing the amount of heat-causing rays allowed to enter the rooms. Rainwater collected by the sloping roof s drainage system is used to water the library s plants and flush the toilets. Eco-friendly paint was also used, to reduce the amount of toxins released into the environment. When you come to Beitou, besides having a nice soak in the hot springs, you can also visit the Beitou Library for some forest bathing enjoying a good book surrounded by lush greenery, that is! P.2

3 #Beitou Hot Spring Museum Introduction# This museum is housed in public hot spring bath built during the Japanese colonial era. The Tudor-style building has a brick and wood façade and black tile roof set picturesquely in the surrounding greenery. The building had fallen into a deep state of disrepair when local preservationists saved it from demolition. This is a good spot to learn about Beitou's rich hot spring culture and history. #Thermal Valley Introduction# Located beside Beitou Hot Spring Park, Thermal Valley is one of the sources supplying the area s hot springs. The sulfuric steam that blankets the valley year-round gives the valley a frightening quality, giving rise to nicknames like Ghost Lake. The springs here have the highest temperatures of any in the Datunshan volcano group. With its surreal sulfuric atmosphere, it s no wonder Thermal Valley was considered one of the 12 great sights of Taiwan during the Period of Japanese Occupation! Water temperature in Thermal Valley s hot springs ranges from The sodium carbonate springs tend to be corrosive, and have come to be known as Green sulfur springs and Sulfur heads. Visitors used to boil eggs in the hot springs, but the practice has since been prohibited not only to protect the water quality but to keep tourists from falling in and boiling themselves! P.3

TICC #Guanghua Market Introduction# With a total length of 4.03 kilometers, the Maokong Gondola is the first gondola system in Taipei City. One-way travel time on the gondola is about 20 to 30 minutes. The gondola ride includes four stops, namely the Taipei Zoo Station, Taipei Zoo South Station, Zhinan Temple Station, and the Maokong Station. It is very easy to ride the Maokong Gondola; after getting off the last stop of the Metro's Wenhu Line Taipei Zoo Station walk to the Maokong Gondola's Taipei Zoo Station to take the gondola. The three most beautiful times to take the gondola are in the midst after rain, when the sun is setting, and when the lights of the city are shining at night. As the gondola passes over the undulating terrain, you can glimpse moving Metro trains, the park along the Jingmei River, and the "giraffe" incinerator. When you reach the second stop, the gondola takes a big turn, and you will get a panoramic view of the landscape, including vehicles moving along the freeway below. After passing the Zhinan Temple Station, you will enter a steep V-shaped gully; this is the climax of the gondola ride, and is an unforgettable experience. The final stop is at Maokong, where numerous tea plantations and tea shops are located. Many visitors specially make the trip here to have tea and chat. Make sure to visit a tea shop and order the famous Muzha Tieguanyin or Wenshan Pouchong tea when you visit Maokong. The trip will be worth your while when you taste the delicious specialty tea and meal combo, and view the stunning scenery of Taipei Basin. P.4

6 #Songshan Cultural and Creative Park Introduction# This location has transformed through history since 1937 as the Taiwan Sōtokufu Tobacco Monopoly Bureau during the Japanese colonial time, and after restoration, it was taken over by the Taiwan Monopoly Bureau and renamed the Taiwanese Provincial Tobacco and Alcohol Monopoly Bureau Songshan Plant. In 2001, it was appointed by the Taipei City Government as the No. 99 cultural heritage site of the city and renamed the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park. This site was once home to the first modernized tobacco Factory in Taiwan, which created tremendous economic value to the nation. On November 15th, 2011, after it officially opened to the public, it has now been transfor med into a creative hub of Taiwan. P.6

Grand Hyatt Taipei #Guanghua Market Introduction# Guanghua Market was originally named after Guanghua Bridge, because the market was located right under this bridge. It was a public market established by the city government. At the beginning, it was just a shabby place for selling used books and toys. The market was the preferred hangout spot for antique dealers and collectors. After US military forces had left Taiwan in 1979, great amount of electronics and electronics parts were being sold in the market. Later, the sellers also started to sell hardware, software, stereos, and computers when Taiwan started to produce electronics. Taiwanese often say that this Taipei market is equivalent to the Akihabara shopping area in Japan. These two places both have numerous electronics shops and sell otaku (obsessive fan) goods such as animation and model kits. However, the bridge became old and dangerous so the whole market was dismantled with the bridge in The stores in Guanghua Market have been relocated to this whole new building on Bade Road, and they have been reopened for business since mid-july #Hua-Shan Cultural and Creative Industries Park Introduction# Hua-Shan Cultural and Creative Industries Park is now home to several interior spaces including four-story buildings, plum winery, fruit winery, arch hall, tower area, red brick area, and rice winery, all of which are now offered to artists as free platforms for creation, exhibition, and activities. Creative workshop, special restaurant, coffee shop, live house, and SPOT Hua-Shan cinema have also attracted many young people to watch movies, attend exhibitions, listen to music, and participate in the art market, further generating an artistic and humanistic atmosphere.
