1 YEAR END REPORT
2 INTRODUCTION Our Credo At Canada Snowboard, we believe embracing the culture of snowboarding combined with a commitment to excellence is the foundation of who we are. Performance at the highest level comes from an athlete-focused approach to training, programs and coaching. Our athletes are amongst the best in the world, and our goal is to continue to provide them the means to achieve their goals. Our members are our Provincial and Territorial Associations. They are the backbone of the competitive snowboard pathway. From a young rider s first event, to joining a club, to progressing to the national team, our Provinces and Territories are key to developing our future high performance athletes. Our goal is to support our members to work together to provide the best possible system for organized snowboarding on the planet. From coaches to officials, judges to events, sport development to high performance, creating strong alignment from coast to coast in each area will allow us to offer the best possible experience to each participant from park to podium. We believe the newly developed strategic plan encompasses the values and strategies that will allow us to build on our past success to reach future excellence, all through staying true to our core.
3 LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Canada Snowboard is pleased to announce Patrick Jarvis as our new Executive Director. Patrick brings a unique combination of private sector business experience, and hands-on national sports organization experience to the role, thanks to his diverse professional and volunteer background. He has served on numerous sport related boards as a director including nine years with VANOC, over ten years with the International Paralympic Committee, and was the president of the Canadian Paralympic Committee during their profound turn-around from Demonstrating his commitment to his new role, Patrick resigned from the Own-The-Podium board and closed down his business operations to become our new Executive Director. I am truly excited to join the Canada Snowboard family, and wish to extend my profound gratitude to all involved in the decision for the faith and trust extended to me through this offer. Principally, I want to wish everyone involved with the organization -- athletes, coaches, staff, directors, our PTSA leaders and all of our volunteers -- overwhelming success, from the grass roots to the highest competitive level, says Jarvis. Patrick s primary focus will be on enabling Canada Snowboard and its athletes to progress and excel as we set our collective sights on the 2018 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Patrick Jarvis Executive Director, Canada Snowboard
4 LETTER FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD As we find ourselves at the midpoint of the Olympic quadrennial cycle, it feels like only yesterday that the Sochi games wrapped up. Looking to the future, a major project in our new strategic plan has come to fruition and will be the guide as we head into the 2018 games and beyond. The vision remains the same: To be recognized as a world leading competitive snowboard nation. I can ensure you that the entire staff is dedicated to fulfilling the plan and to achieve success for the long term. Supported by our new Executive Director, Patrick Jarvis, I couldn t be more confident of a successful implementation of this Strategic Plan. I m convinced that one of the key success factors in this is a focus on communication and collaboration with our Provincial / Territorial Associations. We look forward to continuing to work collaboratively on an aligned system at all levels. During my time this year as interim executive director, I had the opportunity to witness first-hand the commitment, passion and professional conduct the entire organization devotes to the sport, each other and the organization. A lot of work has been done throughout the year and there a still a lot to do. I am excited to see what the coming year holds and wish the best to all our athletes, coaches, staff and partners. Guy Poupart Chairman, Board of Directors
