1 Edition / 2011 Ki-Lines PARTNERS NIGHT A Tribute to Us! Greetings all, I pass the Peace Park virtually every day and see our Lions emblem proudly adorning the front steps. As mentioned above, I feel this is a great tribute to us. To all the Lions & partners who put time into these rose gardens, under the leadership of Ray (What does a Tape Measure Look like?) Redgrave, you should be very proud! Speaking of being proud. How good was the Kiama Cup Race Day? I am indebted to Lion Geoff & Marilyn s efforts to make this day the success it was. I believe our nett profit was about $17,500.00, which will go to local Surf Clubs & Clown Doctors. Geoff is stepping aside after his ongoing success, but will be giving Lion Clive Payne some helpful advice in the future. How about Stainless winning the best dressed gentleman? What a fix!! I have just returned from the Anzac Day March, where I laid a wreath on behalf of

2 our Lions Club. Earlier, under the brilliant leadership of Dennis Wilson; Ian Chellew, Clive Payne, David Wardle, Bob Gray & Jerry Granger-Holcombe cooked up a storm on the BBQ following the Dawn Service. We raised about $ for Legacy. Prior to the Anzac March John MacLeod, Gerry McInerney, Paul Gale & John Unwin handed out Australian flags to children there to watch the march. Unfortunately, I was run over by Bob Gray with the BBQ trailer & then I cut my finger with a sharp knife & was quickly relieved at the front by an enthusiastic Lion, Xandro Lombardi from the Berowra Lions, shown below. Thanks to the Lions & partners who helped on the Driver Reviver this weekend. I would like to think that it was partly for our efforts that the South Coast has remained fatality free this Easter weekend. This week s Guest Speaker is Jane Wilson from the Salvation Army. At the request of S.A. Captain Graeme Parker, this Dinner Meeting will be a Partners Night, to make Jane & our other guests feel more comfortable. So please, come along and hear Jane s enlightening message on helping the needy in our community. See you there!!! Peter

Everyone is welcome to attend the Auction, actually encouraged, and be a part of the festivities. All prizes have been donated so all funds will go to the Cancer Council. There are some fabulous prizes including a:- Signed and Framed NSW Waratahs Jersey This is on display at the Grand Hotel in Kiama, if you would like to take a look prior to the Auction. Many of our walkers should be receiving s from the Cancer Council with your login and password details. This will enable you, if you wish, to set a goal or upload a photo next to your name. 6 Former Lion Kiama Veteran named Anzac o f the Year DAVID HALL Kiama Independant 19 Apr, :59 PM Kiama s Bill Humphreys OAM has been recognised for years of selfless service to the RSL movement and the community by being named Anzac of the Year. The award, normally shared by seven awardees throughout the states, was this year awarded only to Mr Humphreys. Mr Humphreys said the award recognises not only service to the local RSL branch but also to the community. I am extremely humbled to win the award, Mr Humphreys said. RSL National president Rear Admiral Doolan said the Anzac of the Year Awards recognise the efforts and achievements of up to seven Australians who have given service to their fellow Australians and to the community in a positive, selfless and compassionate manner. Mr Humphreys is awarded in recognition of his many years of selfless, dedicated service to the veteran and wider community in New South Wales, particularly in the Kiama area, Rear Admiral Doolan said. Mr Humphreys served 15 years in the army, nine in the regular army and six in the army reserve and served in Vietnam from with the First Battalion Royal Australian Regiment. Mr Humphries said that he would receive his award from the Governor General sometime in the near future. I will receive a four inch bronze medallion depicting Simpson and his donkey, a certificate and a lapel badge and I am absolutely thrilled to have been given the honour, he said Kiama-Jamberoo RSL Sub-Branch secretary Dennis Seage said the award was richly deserved. Bill served as president of our branch for 18 years and was secretary for six or seven and has received the RSL s top award, the Meritorious Service Medal as well as being awarded an OAM earlier this year, so this award comes as no surprise to anyone in our branch, Mr Seage said.
