2 1. Welcome! Welcome to our first issue of the Lanelines Newsletter. We look forward to keeping the LVTC Masters Swimmers informed of upcoming events and sharing our successes. Please enjoy and us your news, internet links, photographs, and ideas. Best wishes for 2008! From the newsletter editors, JoAnne Moody Diann LaCroix 2. Coach's Corner We have several swimmers who excelled in the past few years. Here are just a few highlights: Connie Clark attended the National Senior Games in Louisville, Kentucky. Alex participated in the World Champs held at Stanford University. Alex, Tiemo, Jacob, and Rita participated in the Pacific Masters Short Course Meters Championships held at Heather Farms in Walnut Creek (Oct. 21, 2007). Several swimmers have been in open water at Del Valle, San Francisco (Alcatraz swim), Quarry Lakes, just to name a few. Remembrance for Stuart Smith By Diann LaCroix As Stuart Smith, a previous Masters Swim Coach, passed away recently, a remembrance is being held at Sunset Cabana Club 1/18 from 5-7 p.m. Stuart Smith was energetic, helpful, and overly enthusiastic (perhaps a little loud). If he gave you something to work on, by half way down the lane you'd know if you had it wrong, you could hear him yelling. He was always friendly and would go that extra mile to help. When he learned some of us wanted to get into open water swimming, he borrowed a kayak and met us at Lake Del Valle. We followed after him like baby ducks, while he yelled out tips and encouragement. Senior Games 5. Swimmer of the Month Connie Clark By Diann LaCroix Sanford University Many of you who swim at 8:30 a.m. have met Connie Clark, with her bright smile and friendly way. Connie started swimming Masters ten years ago, about four years before her retirement in Here are some of her accomplishments from this past year: Attended the Senior Games in Louisville, Kentucky and swam 6 events. Swam the Tiburon Mile and came in third in her age group (41 minutes). Swam Alcatraz Gas House Cove Swim Yacht Harbor Swim The Golden Gate Swim-her favorite Connie stays busy with Masters workouts, rowing, and swimming at the South End Club in San Francisco. She also volunteers at her church, the library, Creative Writing classes, quilting, and knitting. She enjoyed sculling lessons in shells in Sausalito as well! Travel is another passion. Connie says, You can always find a place to swim. The most beautiful pool I ever swam in was in Cairo, Egypt. Connie!s goals for 2008-2009 include qualifying for the 2009 Senior Games.

Connie!s goals for include qualifying for the 2009 Senior Games. To qualify, she must attend Senior Games meets, and a State meet, placing in the top three in her age group. Connie says she feels, Blessed to be able to do what I!m doing. I!m impressed with the people, and we!ve had such good coaching. Attending the Senior Games with her sister, Dixie, and plenty of practice in Aquatic Park (San Francisco Bay) have been highlights.
