2 National Drowning Prevention Summit 2014 Tuesday 5 & Wednesday 6 August 2014 PARKROYAL Darling Harbour, Sydney, Australia The Australian Water Safety Council (AWSC) will host the NATIONAL DROWNING PREVENTION SUMMIT 2014 in Sydney on Tuesday 5 and Wednesday 6 August 2014 at the PARKROYAL Darling Harbour, 150 Day Street, Sydney, Australia. The Summit will bring a vital focus to the Australian Water Safety Council s goal of Reducing drowning deaths by 50% by A series of symposiums will provide a forum for those working in the water safety and drowning prevention sector to review the progress of the Australian Water Safety Strategy , with the expectation that the Summit will identify the critical steps needed to achieve this goal. Who Should Attend The AWSC invites everyone with a commitment to reducing drowning through research, policy and practice. Specifically: Water Safety and Drowning Prevention Organisations State and Territory Water Safety Council Members Policy Makers at all levels of Government Local Government Representatives Managers of Aquatic Venues Researchers and Students Community Health Professionals Lifesavers, Lifeguards, Swimming and Water Safety Instructors Rescue and Emergency Services Personnel Background - Australian Water Safety Council The Australian Water Safety Council is deeply committed to drowning prevention in Australia and is a collective voice for Australia s leading water safety organisations. The Council acts as a consultative forum comprising the major water safety and related government agencies and focuses on the presentation of key water safety issues to government, industry and the community. The AWSC is committed to improving water safety in Australia as demonstrated through the production and implementation of three National Water Safety Plans. These plans have generated bipartisan support for water safety in Australia and have seen the improvement of water safety throughout the country. The AWSC member bodies continue to demonstrate their commitment to water safety by directing resources of their respective organisations towards the development and implementation of the Australian Water Safety Strategy.
