1 SLASU/2016/CIRC May 21 st, 2018 Tel: + 94 (0) Fax: +94 (0) office.slasu@gmail.com info.slasu@gmail.com Swimming Trial for 18 th Asian Games 2018, Palembang, Indonesia and 3 rd Summer Youth Olympic Games 2018, Buenos Aires, Argentina 21 st to 23 rd June 2018 Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming Complex GENERAL INFORMATION swimmers (15 Male and 15 female) have been selected to take part in the 18 th Asian Games trial according to the following criteria. 1.1 Performances from the following meets between 19 th August 2017 and 15 th June 2018 have been considered for selecting the 30 swimmers for accreditation SC National Championship held in Negombo XXI Commonwealth Games Trial th MILO/PRAM Invitational Age Group Swimming Championships Trial th MILO/PRAM Invitational Age Group Swimming Championships (Malaysia) XXI Commonwealth Games SC National Championships 1.2 Times submitted by national record holders training abroad have been considered, provided they are verifiable and have been achieved at a FINA recognized meet conducted between 19 th August 2017 and 21 st June Such times MUST be received at the SLASU office by 3:30pm local time on 21 st June Males who have scored a minimum of 550 FINA points and females who have scored a minimum of 500 FINA points were considered for selecting the final 30 swimmers Final 15 female swimmers were selected according to the following criteria Highest FINA points Maximum 2 swimmers per event If 15 swimmers could NOT be selected based on criteria in and 1.4.2, the remaining swimmers to fill the 15 were selected based on highest FINA points, irrespective of the number of swimmers per event Final 15 male swimmers were selected according to the following criteria Top 8 swimmers scoring the highest FINA points in the 100 Freestyle event After meeting the criteria in Highest FINA points Maximum 2 swimmers per event If 15 swimmers could NOT be selected based on criteria in 1.5.1, and 1.5.3, the remaining swimmers to fill the 15 were selected based on highest FINA points, irrespective of the number of swimmers per event. 2. ONLY the 30 swimmers accredited and already in the selected pool are eligible for selection for 18 th Asian Games. 3. Swimmers must be born between January 1 st 2000 and December 31 st 2003 to compete at the 3 rd Summer Olympic Games Trial. 4. Events will be combined for both trials and will run a minimum of 30 minutes apart for heats and 45 minutes apart at finals. 1

2 5. 50 and 100 distances of all four strokes and the 200 Freestyle will be swum as heats and finals. All other events will be swum as timed finals. 6. Manager s Meeting A meeting for all coaches, TIC s & Managers will be held on the 15 th June 2018 at the Medical Unit Auditorium from 8.00am to further explain details of the Selection process for 18 th Asian Games 2018 and the details of running the trail. Start time of Day 1 and Day 3 will be decided at this meeting, depending on the entries for the Men s and Women s 1500 and 800 Freestyle events. 7. Entry fees Please refer to ANNEX- A1 Column 3 for the respective entry fees. All entry fees must be deposited to the following account (Can Be Deposited at Any Branch), o Name of the Bank/ Branch - Peoples Bank, Duke Street Branch o Account name - Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU) o Account Number Entry fees will not be refunded under any circumstances. Protests or objections will cost Rs each, and must be submitted in writing within one (1) hour upon completion of the respective event. 6 CLOSING OF ENTRIES Entries must reach the SLASU office on or before Thoursday 14 th June 2018 at 3.30 pm Entries without fees and/or late entries will not be accepted under any circumstances DOPING CONTROL Doping control may be conducted according to procedures laid down by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the Sri Lanka National Anti-Doping Agency. Quota of Swimmers Swimmers will be selected based on FINA Points and the numbers will be at the discretion of the Ministry of Sports and the National Olympic Committee. 2. Eligibility ONLY the 30 swimmers accredited and already in the selected pool are eligible for selection for 18 th Asian Games. 3. Limitation of Events There is no limitation of events. 4. Scratch Procedure If a swimmer who is selected by placing within the selection criteria decides to withdraw, the next fastest Swimmer/Swimmers will NOT be considered for the selection of athletes for individual events. However, a withdrawing swimmer will be replaced by the next fastest swimmer for relays. 5. Order of Events The order of events mentioned in Annex C1 will be used for the selection trial for 18 th Asian Games

Selection Criteria a) Athletes training locally Swimmers are allowed to submit a best time swum at any FINA/SLASU/SLSASA approved meet with electronic timing, if a swimmer has swum a time with a higher FINA point value than the time achieved at this trail. Such performances must have been achieved between 19 th August 2017 to 21 st June 2018 and be submitted to SLASU by 5pm on the 17 th June 2018 in the attached form Annex- B1. If a swimmer has achieved times in multiple courses the times will be considered in the following order. 1. Long course meters (LCM) 2. Short course meters (SCM) b) Athletes training abroad Those athletes training abroad are allowed to submit times from FINA/National Federation/Collegiate Governing Body approved meets held between 19 th August 2017 and 21 st June 2018 provided: The times are verifiable The swimmer has swum in a SLASU sanctioned meet in Sri Lanka The swimmer is a current national record holder If times submitted are SHORT COURSE YARDS, such times will be converted to LCM using the time conversion utility at prior to FINA POINTS If times submitted are SHORT COURSE METERS, such times will NOT be converted for FINA POINTS If a swimmer has achieved times in the same event in multiple courses the times will be considered in the following order. 1. Long course meters (LCM) 2. Short course meters (SCM) 3. Short course yards (SCY) 7. 4 3rd Youth Olympic Games 2018 will be held from 6 th to 18 th October 2018 in Buenos Aires, Argentina 1. Quota of Swimmers Swimmers will be selected based on FINA Points and the numbers will be at the discretion of the Ministry of Sports and the National Olympic Committee. 2. Eligibility Swimmers that are born between January 1 st 2000 and December 31 st 2003 will be eligible to compete at the 3 rd Summer Olympic Games Trial provided: a. Times submitted must have been achieved between 7 th October 2017 and 21 st June b. The swimmer must have placed within the top 3 in the event form the following meets. i. National Age Group Championships ii. SC or LC National Championships iii. SC or LC Jr. National Championships iv. ANY National Selection Trial v. Sri Lanka Schools Championships c. Athletes training abroad who wish to swim the trial must have achieved times that have a minimum 500 FINA points for females and 550 FINA points for males, within the period stipulated in 2 a. Further, the times submitted must meet the following criteria. i. The times are verifiable ii. If times submitted are SHORT COURSE YARDS, such times will be converted to LCM using the time conversion utility at prior to FINA POINTS iii. If times submitted are SHORT COURSE METERS, such times will NOT be converted for FINA POINTS iv.
