June 2014 President s Perspective by Scott Pinar Hello Beechview members, I hope you are as ready for summer as I am! Our swim and tennis teams have started tune-ups and practices.

Soon we will be open full time and taking advantage of our club by swimming, playing tennis meeting new friends and building memories.

1 June 2014 President s Perspective by Scott Pinar Hello Beechview members, I hope you are as ready for summer as I am! Our swim and tennis teams have started tune-ups and practices. We are getting ready to kick off our summer season. The club has been open for the last few weekends and we have had some nice sunny days to enjoy the facility, friends and family. Soon we will be open full time and taking advantage of our club by swimming, playing tennis meeting new friends and building memories. The board and new management team are working very hard and hope you notice the improvements this year. We are looking to the members to help us with feedback, comments and suggestions for improvements to make our club better each year. So please do not hesitate to drop a card in the suggestion box in the office or better yet speak to one of the managers, guards, staff or board members about your improvement ideas. I hope to see all of you at the club this year because the fun is in the people and new friends we make at BVSC!!!! Thank you for your continued support for the Beechview Swim and Tennis Club!!! 2 Social Committee by Darlien Pausch & Nancy Baker Your social committee, Darlien and Nancy, are ready to party this summer in hopes to entertain you and your friends!! Our goal this year is to bring down the price of our activities. So with that being said, we have spent many hours putting some great activities together this season for you. Bringing back and reinventing some good, old and well-loved activities. Some new ideas are coming your way also!! I am sure your family calendar is filling up quickly with camps, resting by the pool, vacations, swim meets and tennis matches, but don't forget to put the following summer social activities on your calendar. Our famous TGIF's are in full swing this year. So here we go: JUNE 13 The last day of school-doors open at 12pm and the official start to summer will begin...let the party begin!! Bring your friends and let's celebrate the end of the school year!! Food will be served from 6:30-8:30 pm. Meet your board as they serve you hot dogs, chips and pop...plus of course, movie night. Bring a salad or dessert to pass. Who wouldn't love to beat on a piñata, fight for some candy and schedule an appointment to see your local dentist!! JULY 11 Boat races and Italian night. Bring your family's favorite pasta dish to share. We will provide a vegetable dish, bread, green salad and drinks. We have some GREAT prizes for the Boat Race winners and plan to stay for the movie!! OTHER SCHEDULED EVENTS FOR THE SUMMER: KIDS DAY JULY pm. Water slides-games-rock wall- Airbrushing-Subs, chips, soda and sundaes TEEN NIGHT JULY Pizza, subs and sundaes-music- Water slide LADIES NIGHT-JULY 22. We need some fresh ideas of what you want for food and activities. Stuff you loved in the past or try something new-please leave us a note at social@beechviewswimclub.com AUGUST 22 Open to public so bring tons of friends!!! We will have a Food truck and bingo!!!! ADULT NIGHT September 6 t h p m. I t ' s a Luau!!! "Byron in Motion" will be our featured band. We are still working on other details!! As the season moves forward, more information and details will be sent out. We are so excited to be planning these great activities for you this summer and look forward to a happy and successful attendance!!! Come out and meet some new friends and catch up with some old ones. As I write this, we have already had three beautiful weekends back at Beechview and I am excited for school to be out so we can all enjoy the summer. Pool & Grounds by Gary Peters & Joe Lapinski The Winter weather was challenging for us all, the pool and grounds survived. Thanks to all who came out and helped with our clean-up days. This year we have replaced the garage door with 2 smaller doors. The pool heater was tuned up and is keeping the water at a consistent temperature. Tennis News by Chip Hill and Juli Schwalm Chris Chirgwin returns this year as our head tennis coach. He is joined by Morgan Spencer and Christian Woods.

4 Tennis News by Chip Hill and Juli Schwalm Chris Chirgwin returns this year as our head tennis coach. He is joined by Morgan Spencer and Christian Woods. Chris has been working hard to get ready for the season in addition to coaching our Team Tune ups. Team tune ups have begun and it s an exciting time to be on the court! Tune ups were held May 11, and May 18th and will continue on June 1 and 8. C-team practices from 4:00 to 6:30pm and A & B-Teams from 5:30 to 7:00pm. Our final tune up before the regular season starts will be Wednesday June 11. C- Team will practice from 4:30 to 6pm and A and B-team from 6 to 7:30pm. Friday June 13 will be the opening team mixer, parent meeting and tryouts. A team will start tryouts at 1:30-2:30, 2:30 to 3:30 will be B-team tryouts, and 3:30 to 4 is the pizza party and parent meeting. C team, and C- team apprentice and new Player tryouts will be from 4-5:30. Practices will begin June 16th. Practices are Monday through Thursday; A-Team from 9:00-10:30 am, B-Team from 10:30-12:00 am, C-team from 12:00pm to 1:00, and C-Team apprentice from 1:15 to 2:00pm. A, B, and C team will have matches on Fridays (refer to Website for schedule) Regular season Matches conclude on July 25th, A-team will participate Gold cup tournament, While B and C team participate in in-house singles tournament. The season will end with a Banquet on Aug 8th to celebrate the season. Team Registrations (found on the web site or obtained in the club office) are still being accepted and can be turned in at the front desk. You can also sign up on line through e soft. (Under Login on the website) Keys to the courts ($5), tennis car window decals ($1) (While supplies last), and USTA (United States Tennis Association) materials are also available at the front desk. Sign-up sheets for a free 1-year USTA membership for kids 10 & under are avail- able at the front desk for anyone interested. Activities: The Tennis team will again be joining the Swim team in a trip to the WATER- PARK! Details will be on the website. In addition to the water park, tennis will also be participating in the overnight at the club along with swimming. This is open only to team players. Siblings not on the team will not be allowed to come to the overnight. For details on the overnight, please refer to the website. Adult Organized Practice Drills and Lessons with Chris and the coaches are Tuesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 pm (Drills), and adult beginning lessons 6:00 to 7:00pm, starting June 17th. Please come play, have fun and a great workout. Remember we are still continuing our Friday open tennis from 6:30 to 8:30 on Friday evenings, bring a snack and drink if you wish. This is drop in and everyone is invited to play. You are not required to stay the entire time. Adult Tennis Mixers. This Summer we will be having several adult tennis mixers. The first of four was held on May 18th. The Dates planned are: June 22, July 27, and August 24. Mixers will consist of round robin or other similar tournament style play. Pot luck and hopefully some prizes. So come out and play some tennis. Ladies League This year we have been asked to join in Southern Oakland county Ladies Tennis League. The Clubs participating Beechwood, Beverly Hills Athletic Club, and West Bloomfield Swim and Tennis Club. Matches will be Friday mornings at 8:30 starting June 6. 6 Odds & Ends by Kristie Kozara Birthdays at Beechview Swim Club Parents, is there a better way to celebrate your son or daughter's birthday than to have a swimming party? Whether you child is celebrating his or her special day or just getting the team together for a season ending party, Beechview Swim Club is a great place to celebrate. We will gladly reserve an area and tables for your group's big event. Guidelines for parties can be found in the Rules and Regulations (on our & in your Buzz Book). Contact Mike or Jason in the club office for more details. Parties When a member(s) wants to host a party at Beechview, the primary concern is the impact such party has on the ability of other members to use and enjoy their Club. Generally, a "private party" is defined as a non-club sponsored party on Club property involving more than 6 individuals or 2 families who are not members of the Club. Private parties are not allowed on Opening/Closing weekends, Holidays, or other nights specified by the Board of Directors. Any private party must be hosted by an active member in good standing. The hosting member must be in attendance at the party for the duration of the event. All of the rules and regulations of BVSC apply to the guests of the hosting member. The Pool Manager must be contacted first to reserve a time for the planned party. Reservations are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Private parties will not be scheduled to occur concurrently. All party plans, including but not limited to, the description of the event, date/time, activities planned, guest list, etc., must be reviewed and approved by the Social Chairperson or his/her designee. This information must be submitted not less than 3 days in advance of the planned party. At least 50% of the people attending the party must be Club members. The Club member hosting the party will be charged regular guest fees for each nonmember attending the party capped at $50. Birthday/Sport parties for children (age 13 and under) ARE permitted and are exempt from the 50% rule. Children's birthday parties are limited to 12 children and the appropriate number of adult supervisors (not less than 1 adult per 3 children for children under the age of 9). Guest Policy In defining guest policies, the Board must balance the interests of Club members to enjoy the facilities of their private club with the desire of members to share the facilities with their guests. A "guest" is any person who is not a member. A "member" consists of those persons (not to exceed two) holding a Certificate of Membership, and their children under 21 years of age, as well as persons 21 years of age or older who reside permanently with the member. Members may bring guests at any time during normal operating hours. However, please remember that a guest is potentially taking the space of a member. Therefore; please be considerate of your fellow Club members by limiting weekend and holiday guests to a minimum. Members will be accommodated before guests. Guest Fees: Individual...$5.00 per day Family...$12.00 per day Family...$40.00 per week * Guests are limited to a maximum of 7 visits per season. Guests must be signed in by a member at the front entrance before entering the Club. Members must be present with the guest at all times; when the member leaves the Club, then their guests must leave with them. POOL PRIVILEGES All children who are not toilet trained must wear a cloth diaper and rubber pants or a swim diaper at all times in the adult and kiddy pool. Children nine (9) years of age, or older, who can swim two (2)laps may use the pool facilities unattended. No children under fourteen (14) years of age are allowed at or in the pool after 8:00 P.M. unless accompanied by a parent or adult. Have a Wonderful Summer!!!

7 BVSC POOL RULES ADMISSION TO THE FACILITY IS REFUSED TO ALL PERSONS HAVING ANY INFECTIOUS CONDITIONS SUCH AS COLDS, SKIN ERUPTIONS OR OPEN BLISTERS OR ANY OTHER CONDITION WHICH HAS THE APPEARANCE OF BEING COMMUNICABLE OR HAVING ANY TYPE OF BANDAGE, ADHESIVE TAPE, ETC, ON THEIR BODY PERSONS UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL OR EXHIBITING ERRATIC BEHAVIOR SHALL NOT BE PERMITTED IN THE POOL AREA ALL PERSONS SHALL TAKE A CLEANSING SHOWER BEFORE ENTERING THE POOL ALL SWIMMERS MUST WEAR CLEAN AND APPROPRIATE SWIM WEAR. NO UNSUPERVISED SMALL CHILDREN ALLOWED IN POOL OR POOL AREA PARENTS AND GUARDIANS SHOULD SUPERVISE THEIR CHILDREN ALL CHILDREN IN DIAPERS MUST WEAR PLASTIC PANTS WITH SNUG FITTING ELASTIC WAIST AND LEG BANDS SPITTING, SPOUTING OF WATER, BLOWING THE NOSE, OR OTHERWISE INTRODUCING CONTAMINANTS INTO THE FACILITY WATER IS NOT PERMITTED NO RUNNING OR BOISTEROUS OR ROUGH PLAY IS PERMITTED IN POOL NO BALL PLAYING OR THROWING OF ANY SORT ALLOWED IN THE POOL ONLY MANAGEMENT APPROVED FLOAT DEVICES ALLOWED IN THE POOL AND MUST NOT BE LEFT UNATTENDED IN THE POOL GLASS OR OTHER BREAKABLE MATERIAL WHICH MIGHT CREATE HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS OR INTERFERE WITH EF- FICIENT OPERATION OF THE FACILITY SHALL NOT BE PERMITTED IN THE POOL ENCLOSURE NO FOOD, DRINK, GUM OR TOBACCO WILL BE ALLOWED IN OTHER THAN SPECIFICALLY DESIGNATED AND CONTROLLED SECTIONS OF THE FACILITY AREA NO ANIMALS ALLOWED IN POOL DIVING IS NOT PERMITTED FROM THE EDGE OF THE POOL WHERE WATER DEPTH IS LESS THAN 6 FEET STARTING PLATFORMS SHALL BE USED ONLY DURING OFFICIAL COMPETITION AND DURING SWIM TEAM PRACTICES ONLY DO NOT HANG FROM OR USE STARTING PLATFORMS AS A MEANS OF EXITING POOL
