While the Marlins time each summer is quite short, it s incredible to watch how each of you improve so much over the course of just a few weeks! We still have this week to prepare for Championships and I want to challenge each of you to be at practice as much as possible. Remember: You will get out of each practice all that you put into it. Challenge yourself this week and let s make a strong showing at Championships! Theme for Championships: Alissa Be the Spirit of Kansas City! Use your imagination and show your support for the great city that is Kansas City! Participating in the theme is optional, but so fun! Some ideas include Sporting KC, Royals, Chiefs, Barbeque, etc. Dress up and show your spirit! Meets this week: Tuesday, July Mission against Turner (10 and under swimmers); Thursday, July Turner (11 and older swimmers)

4 P A G E 4 CHAMPIONSHIP SCHEDULE Championship Week Schedule: Championships will be here before we know it, so here is just a little of what you need to know. More detailed info will follow in next week s newsletter. Monday, July 13th- Regular practice schedule for ALL age groups Tuesday, July 14th- Novice Championships at Mission Morning Session (10 & Under): 7:00-7:50 AM- warm ups 8:10 AM- meet begins Afternoon Session (11 through 14 year olds): 12-12:50 PM- warm-ups 1:10 PM- meet begins Wednesday, July 15th - Level II/A Practice for swimmers in Level II Champs Everyone participating in Level II/A Championships will be practicing from 8 AM-9:45 AM Blue and Red Teams will begin at 8 and Orange, White, & Yellow Teams will join in at 9. Thursday, July 16th - Level II/A Championships at Mission Morning Session (10 & Under): 7:00-7:50 AM- warm ups 8:10 AM- meet begins Afternoon Session (11 and Older): 11-11:50 AM- warm-ups **Note: this warm up time is an hour earlier than Tuesday!** 12:10 PM- meet begins Friday, July 17th - Picnic/Awards/Pool Party 6:30 PM- Picnic Begins 8:00 ish-10 PM- pool party TIME STANDARDS A Time This is when a swimmer achieves an A time standard or faster in that event swam. An A time standard is set by USA Swimming. Level II Time This is when a swimmer achieves a Level II time standard set by the Mo-Kan League to swim in Level II and Level II Championship events. Novice Time - This is when a swimmer achieves a Novice time standard set by the Mo-Kan League to swim in the Novice Championship events. The rule in the Mo-Kan League is that everyone is guaranteed one individual event at the Novice Championships, but to swim two or three events, a swimmer must achieve a Novice Qualifying Time Standard for each event they will swim. In the Level II/A Championships, a swimmer is permitted to swim up to three individual events in which the swimmer has a Level II qualifying time within that event. This is why it is important to swim fast so we can enter you in as many events as possible at Championships. WILL MY CHILD SWIM AT CHAMPIONSHIPS? All swimmers are eligible to swim at least one individual event and one relay, as long as they participated in at least two meets during the 2014 season. All swimmers can t be in a relay, but we will do our best! Depending upon the swimmer s times, they may be eligible to swim additional events. The swimmer s events for Novice Championships will be posted on Monday, 7/14. See the coaches if you have any questions about eligibility. WHAT TO BRING TO CHAMPIONSHIPS Bring a small cooler with healthy food to snack on like fruit, vegetables, crackers, WATER, juice, or Gatorade. You may want to bring some games to play between events. Make sure you don t bring games that can be easily broken or lost. This is probably not a good place for hand-held video games, Ipods, etc. because of the potential for loss and breakage. Bring those items at your own risk. Cards and other small games are fine. Sleeping bags are softer to sit on and be sure to bring several towels and SUN- SCREEN. Tent Moms and Dads- don t forget your lawn chairs. IN CASE OF RAIN...bring a plastic bag to put your stuff in to RAINY WEATHER AT CHAMPIONSHIPS The same rule applies to Championships as for regular swim meets. Please show up even if we have rain. The meet will be cancelled on deck if need be.

5 Reminder about swim meet days: Swimmers- Please make sure that you limit outside activities on days that you have a swim meet. Since the sun quickly drains your energy, it makes sense to save fun indoor activities for meet days. We want you to arrive to the meets energized and ready to give it your all! **Communication to coaches** Please let one of the coaches know as soon as possible if you will be unable to attend Championships. Entries for championships are completed by Friday, July 10th. Thank you!.
