2 2016 VOLUNTEERS POSITIONS Every parent must sign up for three volunteer jobs prior to registration. We will have volunteer jobs demonstrated at parent orientation days and will be available to answer any questions you may have about specific tasks. Additionally, we will utilize SignUpGenius this season; signups will not take place at registration. 3 welcome to SWIM TEAM We are so excited to kick off the 2016 RMAL season! We hope you are looking forward to a great summer swim season! Our coaches emphasize endurance, technique, team development, fitness and of course, fun. We had a great 2015 season and know this year will be even better. We can t wait to get started! 4 IMPORTANT INFORMATION COMMUNICATION Please make sure you have an up-to-date address! This is our team s primary form of communication. Please check your often as important items such as team social times, your child s swim meet events, concerns, and other important matters will be communicated in this way. Please sign up for our swim team newsletter at: Additionally, below are some links that will help you stay connected throughout the season (choose Teams, A Division, acac) EVALUATIONS All swimmers ages 5-8 (Mini-Mites and Mites) are required to undergo an evaluation before participating in swim team. Evaluations will take place on registration nights at the WaterPark. Swimmers must be able to complete the following: Swim 25 yards without stopping or touching the pool or lane lines for help Breathe to the side Kick steadily through 25 yards Carry out correct concept of Freestyle EQUIPMENT & SUITS Swim goggles Blue swim suit or acac team suit for all meets You may purchase suits with Mary Anne Haulsee at Virginia Swim Shop, located at: Gayton Rd. Richmond, VA Suits can be fitted at any time at Virginia Swim Shop. You may also purchase spirit items at their location. One team cap and a team t-shirt will be given to swimmers by the first meet. Extra caps and t-shirts will be available for purchase. Previous acac Dolphin suits can be worn. 4

5 IMPORTANT TEAM DATES REGISTRATION & EVALUATION Registration and evaluation are from 6-7pm at the WaterPark, and 7-8pm in Adventure Central. Coach Gwen will be in attendance to answer questions and help your child get the most out of the season. DOLPHIN TEAM PARTIES All Fun Days will be on Wednesday following meets. 6 PRACTICE TIMES There will be no practice on the Wednesdays following meets. See Dolphin Team Parties. All clinics are instructed by an acac swim team coach. Clinics are held Wednesdays and Fridays from 6-6:45pm, June 22- July 22. 7 SWIM MEETS All meets begin at 6:00pm. Please arrive to both home and away meets by 4:30pm to allow adequate time for warm-up. 8 GENERAL INFORMATION TEAM POLICIES Please review these guidelines with your children. Please be on time. Being late is disruptive to the others and coaches. if leaving early, please notify the coach prior to practice. If your swimmer will be out of practice for an extended period of time or has any injuries that require special consideration, please discuss these with the coach prior to the start of practice/season. Proper facility behavior is a must. No horseplay in the locker rooms, on the pool deck, in the facility, etc. Disruptive behavior will not be allowed. Please have your children go to the bathroom before practice. All belongings, clothes, shoes, backpacks, etc. should be kept in a swim bag on the pool deck. Parents are asked to please allow the coaching staff to conduct practice. Any concerns need to be taken to the coach either before or after practice. Please feel free to address any questions with the coaches and staff before or after practice. It is disruptive to interrupt the coaches and staff during practice. If an issue arises, the swimmer will first be spoken to individually by the coach, then the parent will be notified by the coach. If the behavior/issue continues, the information will be passed to the Aquatics Director for further attention. RMAL The RMAL has the following age divisions: Mini-Mite 6 & under Mite 7 & 8 Midget 9 & 10 Junior 11 & 12 Intermediate 13 & 14 Senior The cutoff date for the next age group is May 31 of the current season. Any swimmer with a birthday after May 31 will stay in the younger age group. Each age group has three speed divisions: Silver, Gold, and Blue. When a swimmer achieves a qualifying time they will automatically move up at the next meet. Current time standards and qualifying times are listed at the back of this manual. *Ultimately it is the coaches decision as to when a mini-mite is ready to compete* 8
