1 Swim to Fight Cancer SIXTH ANNUAL EVENT Fresh Pond, Amagansett, N.Y. Saturday July 11, 2015 General Info Be a WaveMaker Swimmer: WaveMakers are elite SAA fundraisers. All swimmers raise at least $250 (fundraising minimums vary per distance - see swimmer requirements tab), but WaveMakers (WM) go above and beyond the call of duty by pledging to raise at least $1000. You can sign up to be a WaveMaker when you register but, even if you don't, you will automatically become one when you hit the $1000 mark. WMs get an exclusive WM dry fit shirt, worn by all SAA WaveMakers across the country. They also get access to the WM village on event day where they will have access to other perks and swag. Click here for more information. Swim as an Individual, or on a Team A person may elect to swim alone, or be part of a team. Many colleagues and college alumni will form teams, or teams may be formed in honor or memory of a loved one. All teams are inspirational and rewarding for all of us involved with Swim Across America. Volunteers Volunteers are the glue that holds our event together! If you are looking to get involved in our swim event but aren't quite ready to jump in the water, this is your way in. We always need land volunteers and kayakers (must bring own kayak). To join us as a volunteer you can either Register as an Individual on this page and then choose your volunteer type or "Join an Existing Team." Either one of these options will register you to be a volunteer. If you would like to volunteer as part of another team, you can do that as well, just search for that team under "Join an Existing Team." Event Timeline All swimmers must arrive at the Fresh Pond Road Beach by the following times for registration, breakfast and swim instructions. 2 Upon arrival, please proceed directly to the check-in tables. All swimmers must sign a waiver. Swimmers under 18 years of age must have their parents sign the waiver, and swimmers 14 & under must have a parent or guardian present at the swim. Also bring with you any additional donations you have collected and not yet turned in. Once you are checked in, you will receive a swim cap, and be marked with your number. Personal belongings will be bagged and tagged, and available to you at the finish line. Fruit, juices, coffee, water and bagels will be available prior to the swim. IMPORTANT: All swimmers must attend the swim director's safety meeting on the morning of the swim. This meeting will take place approximately 15 minutes prior to the start of your distance. Awards Ceremony: Once ALL swimmers have exited the water, each swimmer and their guests are invited to attend the post swim brunch and awards on the beach! During the brunch, the SAA Committee will recognize the people and organizations that helped create this event. We will also recognize our event's beneficiaries! The Course (course outlined below on Napeague Bay) All swimmers start and return to the extreme left point (Green Triangle Fresh Pond Beach, Amagansett). The smallest triangle(green), is the ½ mile course, the second largest triangle(red) is the 1 mile course, the largest angled figure (yellow ) if the 3 mile course. Beneficiaries The beneficiaries for the Hamptons Swim to Fight Cancer include Fighting Chance, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Children's Hospital Montefiore, The Feinstein Institute of NS-LIJ, and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. 3 Fundraising: Swimmers and volunteers change the lives of cancer patients by fundraising for Swim Across America. In order to participate, each swimmer and volunteer must commit to raise the recommended fundraising level. It's a challenge, but our online tools and resources provide participants with the fundraising support they need to not only meet, but also to exceed their fundraising goals. Fundraising Requirements for Everyone 1/2 mile swimmers: $250 minimum 1 mile swimmers: $500 minimum for adults, $250 minimum for those under 18 5k swimmers: $1,000 minimum 10k swimmers: $5,000 minimum Select Your Team Fundraising Level SAA offers two different TEAM fundraising levels. By raising more funds, you'll receive more benefits! When registering a TEAM, you must commit to raise at least $2,500. You can upgrade to the next level as you fundraise more. 4 Directions to Fresh Pond Beach, Amagansett, N.Y. From the West : L.I. Expressway east (495) to Exit 70-Manorville. Take Rt 111 south to Sunrise Highway (Rt 27) east,. Continue ( almost 32 miles) past Westhampton, Southampton, Bridgehampton, East Hampton to Amagansett. In Amagansett, make your first left off Rt 27 past the Fire House, and across the RR tracks onto Abrahams Landing Road. Continue east to the end and make a left on Cross Highway. Go about 1/3 of a mile to Fresh Pond Beach. Follow directions from Volunteers for parking (Time from Exit 70 to Amagansett-approx 45 min.) From the Shelter Island Ferry: Once off the Ferry, follow the signs for Rt 114 south. Continue south until Main Street in East Hampton. Make a left on Main Street (Rt 27) and continue east into Amagansett. Then follow directions above. (Time from SI Ferry to Amagansett approx. 20 min.) From the East : Take Montauk Highway (Rt 27) west into Amagansett. Make a right onto Abrams Landing Road, one block prior to the Fire House. Continue east to the end and make a left on Cross Highway. Go about 1/3 of a mile to Fresh Pond Beach. Follow directions from Volunteers for parking (Time from Montauk approx. 20 min.) Leaving Fresh Pond Beach: Follow directions from Volunteers to Fresh Pond Road. Continue west to the end. Make a right onto Abrahams Landing Road, follow to Montauk Highway (Rt 27)
