We offer a range of coached sessions, holiday camps, casual pay and play we have something for everyone. Whatever your age (over 16yrs) and ability and however many hours you can commit to, we can provide on-court training in assisting with Mini Tennis and Adult sessions in our term-time and holiday programmes. 4 Welcome to Craiglockhart Tennis Centre. We are tucked away under Craiglockhart Hill, just off Colinton Road and enjoy beautiful views over the city to the castle. We share our space with the Leisure Centre which boasts a fantastic range of fitness facilities including gym, fitness studios, 2 squash courts and a sports hall. On street parking is free and Meggetland is only a 5 minute walk away. Activities Pay and play tennis The courts at Craiglockhart don t need to be booked in advance. Depending on availability anyone can simply turn up to pay and play. However, if you want to avoid disappointment, courts can be booked up to 8 days in advance with a Leisure card. Non-card holders can book 7 days in advance, with payment taken at the time of booking. Individual coaching Although the centre does not directly offer individual coaching, we are able to provide details of self employed coaches who offer this service. To book an individual lesson please select your preferred coach, make contact with them to agree a suitable day and time. Once you have agreed this, you then need to book your tennis court for the session. The coach s payment should be made directly to the coach. 4

However the courts will remain open outwith the times that they are staffed, and you are welcome to play on the courts at no charge at these times. Inverleith Park This year, we have a range of tennis sessions available at Inverleith Park (p23). Ranging in age from juniors right through to adults, everyone will have a great time developing their game and perfecting their skills led by fully qualified coaches, they will ensure you have an ace time. There are 4 courts at Inverleith Park available for casual pay and play. The courts are not staffed and subject to availability. No booking required. Children and young people drop off, collection arrangements When booking any of our junior tennis courses, please remember that both The Meadows and St Margaret s Park and Inverleith Park are open park areas. In the interests of your child s safety, please let us know who will be picking your child up after their lesson, or whether your child will be making their own way home. 5

7 Craiglockhart Tennis Centre New to tennis? These courses are perfect for total beginners. Your coach will teach you the basic skills of tennis and once the course is complete you have the choice to do the course again, or go onto improver sessions. Your coach will ensure that you move to the session most suitable for your ability. 8 Craiglockhart Tennis Centre Adult Tennis Sessions Adult tennis sessions are offered at Craiglockhart with the aim of developing player s tennis skills through informal coaching and matchplay. These sessions are delivered at Craiglockhart on a weekly basis. You simply turn up, pay and play. However, places are limited so it is advisable to book in advance (sessions require a minimum of 4 people to take place). These sessions can be booked up to 8 days in advance with a Leisure Card or 7 days without. 10 The Meadows Adult sessions Adult sessions will resume at the Meadows from 28th March 2011 and continue throughout the season until late September. The only exception to this schedule is the Meadows AM session which will cease temporarily over the school summer holidays: from 6th y through to 17th August inclusive for The aim of these sessions is to develop player s tennis skills through informal coaching and match play. The sessions are delivered on a weekly basis, where you can simply turn up and play. Generally there is no need to book in advance, however the Tuesday evening sessions can be busy so to avoid disappointment it may be advisable to book ahead. Bookings can be made up to 8 days in advance with a Leisure Card, 7 days without and can be made in person or by telephoning the Meadows. 11 The Meadows Thursday Tennis Tournaments Thursday tennis tournaments will take place at the Meadows on the first Thursday of every month from May to September. The events will be of a social doubles format which will be open to both men and women of all levels. Places will be limited so there will be a requirement to book in advance. 12 Play outdoor tennis all year round Just because the seasons change, doesn t mean playing outdoor tennis has to stop. The tennis air dome comes to Craiglockhart Tennis Centre from September to April each year covering three outdoor clay courts, allowing you to keep in shape and stay on top form during the winter months. 14 Craiglockhart Tennis Centre Term Time Coaching Programme Edinburgh Leisure offers a tennis coaching programme at Craiglockhart for children and young people 18 months 17 years. As an LTA National Performance Centre, we are able to offer children s coaching programmes from beginner through the developmental stages and onto an advanced training programme that will continue to develop the player s skills right up to national and international standards. Children are coached in small groups within their own age group and ability levels. Courses are run on the indoor courts on a school term basis throughout the year. Times: Monday - Friday Saturday - Sunday All day Holiday programmes In addition to our term time coaching Craiglockhart also offers comprehensive holiday programmes where the aim is to provide the kids with an opportunity of learning and developing their tennis skill, meet new friends and have a whole lot of fun. The programmes offer something for all levels of players from tots to teens with coaching from our fully qualified coaches. The activities on offer vary from coaching sessions, to half day camps to full day camps there is something for everyone interested in playing tennis. Week long holiday courses These week long coaching courses are suitable for pre-school children right through to young people in P6. All playing standards are welcome as the children will be grouped according to their ability on the first day. We will provide all the equipment and the coaching will be delivered by our fully qualified and experienced coaches. 15 Craiglockhart Tennis Centre Tennis camps Craiglockhart offer 2 different tennis camps, which run from Monday to Friday. Players are asked to bring suitable clothing: 2 pairs of trainers, a sun hat, sunscreen, snacks and plenty to drink. For information regarding dates and times of camps please see the schedule below. Active Kids/Active Teens These half day camps are for children P4 - P6 and the P7 - S6 age groups of all playing standards. The camps programme provide coaching in the fundamental skills required for playing tennis successfully, whilst also developing the technical, tactical, mental and physical aspects of the game. For information regarding dates and times of camps please see the schedule below. Advantage camps The Advantage camps are designed to deliver more intensive coaching and match play practice. These camps are open to players who already take part in our term time coaching programme Green level 2, Silver level 2-4 and Gold level 2-4, they are also open to regular club or county players. If they are not in this category, please contact Alan Cameron, Head Coach, at Craiglockhart for an assessment. The camps will be held primarily on the outdoor courts (if the rain stays away) and will include coaching, basket drills, and video analysis to develop the tactical, technical, mental and physical aspects of the game. These are full day camps and players, in addition to all the other items mentioned, will need to bring a packed lunch with them. See below for information regarding dates and times of camps. 16 The Meadows Coaching programme Edinburgh Leisure offers a tennis coaching programme at the Meadows for children and young people from tots to 17 years. The courses are aimed at 3 different ability levels for each different age group. Level 1: For children with little experience of tennis and are still developing basic rallying and serving skills. Level 2: For children who can serve overarm, maintain a rally, and have a basic knowledge of how to score. Level 3: For players who have played club tennis and participated regularly in tournaments. The term time and holiday programmes at the Meadows are delivered on a weekly basis. The kids will get a great opportunity to learn and develop their tennis skills, meet new friends and have lots of fun. Bad weather arrangements In the event of bad weather, refunds will only be issued if more than 50% of the course has been cancelled as a result of bad weather. 21 2011 Events Calender Craiglockhart and The Meadows will host some events over the summer season. These events will range from local festivals right through to Adult International Events. Everyone is welcome to participate in the local events, some of these events are free of charge whilst a small entry fee may be applied to others; more information will be made available nearer the time. You are also invited to come along to watch and support your favourite players at the Championship events. There is no charge for these events so it s an ideal opportunity to watch some first class tennis being played right on your doorstep.
