3 Dear UIL Class 6A Region I Participants: On behalf of our University President, Dr. Vistasp Karbhari, I want to welcome you to The University of Texas at Arlington for the 2018 UIL Class 6A Region I Spring Sports Championships. We feel privileged and grateful for the opportunity to host these important and prestigious events. We are confident that we will be able to provide the setting for your students to excel in their competitions. Please use this information handbook, which can also be found online on our UT Arlington Athletics website- as a guide for these UIL competitions. This handbook has been prepared to provide you with helpful information concerning all aspects of the Class 6A Region I Boys and Girls Tennis Tournament competition. Please direct questions to your district representatives listed on the following pages. If your district representative cannot help you, please do not hesitate to contact the UT Arlington UIL office at (817) or my cell phone number at (817) The individuals who will be instrumental in the facilitation of your Boys and Girls Regional Tennis competitions will be Diego Benitez, our head men s and women s tennis coach and, Diego Brunicardi, assistant men s and women s tennis coach. Randy McDonald will serve as the USTA Tournament Referee. The information that follows in this electronic handbook is specifically related to the Regional Boys and Girls Tennis Championships!! 5 2018 UIL Class 6A Region I Boys and Girls Tennis Tournament Information Dates: Wednesday, April 18, 2018 and Thursday, April 19, 2018 Sites: Arlington Tennis Center: 500 West Mayfield Road, Arlington, Texas Director: Sheryl Osborn atc@arlingtontx.gov Coaches Meeting: Tuesday, April 17, :00 pm at the Martin High School MAC 4501 W. Pleasant Ridge Rd. Arlington TX Tournament Director: Diego Benitez Cell Tournament Referee: Randy McDonald Entries and Fees: All entries and fees of $50.00 per person per event, (non- refundable) must be sent to the UIL 6A Region I Business Manager: Tony Burken Associate Athletics Director for Business Operations and Facilities University of Texas at Arlington Athletics Department, Box W. Mitchell Arlington, Texas All entries must be mailed IMMEDIATELY after the District tournament. Pairings: Schedule: A coaches meeting will be held for the arranging of seeding and pairings at 6:00 pm on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 in the Martin High School MAC located at 4501 W. Pleasant Ridge Rd. Arlington TX All coaches attending the seeding meeting must bring the win/loss records and other information on the players for seeding purposes. If a coach cannot be present at this meeting, he/she should send the players win/loss records and other information on the players to UT Arlington Athletics: 1309 West Mitchell Arlington, Texas This information can also be faxed to The faxed information should be received no later than Friday, April 13, Following the coaches meeting, a schedule will be prepared and posted. Any coach who does not attend the meeting should report to the Arlington Tennis Center no later than 7:30 am on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 to pick up draw sheets and enter participants. Balls: balls for the tournament. has once again graciously offered to provide Wilson US Open tennis

6 Stringing: A stringer will be available at the Tennis Center. Cost of each stringing job is $14.00 if string is purchased from ATC, $16 if players bring their own string. Prior arrangements must be made with the Tournament Director and the Arlington Tennis Center staff for any stringing to be done on site. Parking: Awards: T- Shirts: There is no charge for parking at the Arlington Tennis Center. However, space is limited. Priority in the parking will be for officials, schools dropping off and picking up student- athletes, and participant coaches and administrators. General parking spaces are available around the Tennis Center on a first come, first serve basis. NO BUS OR OVERSIZED VEHICLES MAY PARK AT THE ARLINGTON TENNIS CENTER. Awards will be present at the final matches in each event. Both the first and second place winners qualify to the state meet. Third place winners will also receive medals. Regional participant t- shirts will be available for sale on- site during the first day of the Regional Tournament.

7 ADDENDUM TO THE 2018 UIL CLASS 6A REGION I TENNIS TOURNAMENT The following guidelines and regulations should be added to the UIL Class 6A Region I Tennis Championships Guidelines Handbook which was ed recently to District Directors, Athletics Directors and Coaches. While UT Arlington Athletics serves as the host and the UT Arlington coaches are serving as the Tournament Directors, all persons participating in and facilitating the Regional Tournament must adhere to the Arlington Tennis Center facility use regulations at all times as noted below. 8 Arlington Tennis Center Policies and Procedures for the 2018 UIL Class 6A Region I Tournament Communication with the Arlington Tennis Center Use only the main telephone number for the ATC which is (817) Practice Court Availability April 18 (Tuesday) at Arlington Tennis Center 12 courts, 12:00 PM- 5:00 PM (leagues, lessons and drills will be in progress on Tuesday, so more courts are not available) See below for reservation and practice court policy. Practice Court Availability April 18 (Tuesday) at UT Arlington 10 courts, 10:00 AM- 5:00 PM Practice Court Policy Only team coaches may make team practice reservations. Coaches must check in their players for practice as a team, at the front counter with the customer service staff. Practice courts may be reserved in two- court, one- hour blocks. o Coaches are NEVER to bypass the customer service staff to choose a court, or allow their players to do so. Teams must adhere strictly to the team practice court assignments and practice time. Teams will be allowed no more than three courts for practice, in one- hour increments. Alternate Site: UT Arlington Should weather cause delays, we will use the courts at UT Arlington as an alternate site. Tournament Desk / Report Scores The tournament desk will be located on the southwest patio. Players are to report all scores to the site director at the tournament desk promptly after completing matches. Medals Medals will be awarded at the tournament desk, once place is determined. Souvenirs Souvenirs, including commemorative T- shirts, letter jacket patches, etc., will be available for sale at the promotional desk located near the tournament desk. Facility Rules Alcoholic Beverages: Alcoholic Beverages are prohibited on the property (including the parking lot) at ATC. If alternate sites are used for this event, it is the responsibility of the player's guests (players are not age eligible for alcoholic beverages) to learn in advance the facility's policy regarding alcoholic beverages, and abide by those policies. Cell Phones and Electronic Devices (e.g., tablets): Spectators who use cell phones or other electronic devices on the property should be mindful of whether their conversations or use of their

9 devices (e.g., game play) poses interference with tournament play, or normal business operations of the facility. Thank you for your cooperation. Dress Code: We require that players and spectators wear traditional attire appropriate for a family tennis environment. All guests (players and spectators) are required to wear shirts (including ladies wearing shirts over sports bras), with no bare stomachs / abdomens. Shorts and skirts should be of an appropriate length, as well. As determined by facility management, attire with offensive, suggestive or disrespectful images or language will not be allowed. Players and spectators who do not dress appropriately will be required to adjust their attire. Pets: Pets are prohibited in the Arlington Tennis Center Pro Shop/building and inside the fenced areas around the courts. If alternate locations are used for the event, it is the player's responsibility to learn in advance any regulations at specific facilities regarding pets, and to abide by those policies. Smoking: Smoking is prohibited in the Arlington Tennis Center pro shop/building and inside the fenced areas around the courts, as well as 50' from any fence line or entry/exit. If alternate locations are used for the event, it is the responsibility of age eligible players (or their guests) to learn in advance the smoking policies at specific facilities regarding smoking, and to abide by those policies. Spectators: Spectators are always welcome. However, spectators are not allowed on court at any time. Water: Water coolers are not placed on court at Arlington Tennis Center. A commercial ice machine and water fountain are located on the west patio and players and guests are also welcome to purchase bottled water, fountain drinks, sports drinks and juices in the Pro Shop. Players are encouraged to bring their own water to their matches. Videography/Photography: Personal videotaping and photography are not allowed at Arlington Tennis Center, except persons who are videotaping 'their' player (parent, guardian, coach or person designated by the parent/guardian) from a non- distracting position off court OR persons designated by ATC staff to photograph or videotape aspects of the tournament for use in print or on public websites. Personal videotaping or photography equipment may not be affixed to any facility property, including fencing. The umpire or tournament staff may direct the videotaping or photography to stop if it is determined that the action is interfering or distracting to either player. Coach Responsibility: Coaches must provide facility management with their name and contact information. Player behavior that is considered to be destructive, abusive or inappropriate will be reported to the team coach for disciplinary action. Stringing: Costs for stringing: $16 if customer provides string, $14 + cost of string if string is purchased from ATC. Waivers are required for racquets requested to be strung out of recommended tension range, or for customers who bring their own string. Protocols As a courtesy, ATC management asks that coaches speak with their teams in advance about proper behavior at the facility, specifically with regard to being respectful of the facility and staff. To conserve space in the pro shop, as well as maintain safe walking pathways in the shop, teams should not congregate in the pro shop or locker rooms for long periods of time. Tennis bags should also be collected outside, not in the shop.

10 Parking There is no charge for customer parking at Arlington Tennis Center. NO BUS OR OVERSIZED VEHICLE PARKING at ATC. 2 o Above condition includes, but is not limited to, passenger vehicles /vans that extend beyond the parking space depth, RVs and campers. ATC staff have arranged off- site parking for busses and other oversized vehicles in the softball complex parking lot located at Bob Duncan Center, 2800 S Center St, Arlington, TX 76014, which is located 0.8 miles from ATC. See map below. Note: Do not park in the small lot just south of BDC. That area is reserved for BDC customers. Park near the softball fields.
