The Pride returns three of its top four goal scorers in senior All-Colonial Athletic Association Third-Team selection Kristin Desmond (6G, 2A), classmate Noriana Radwan (6G, 1A) and junior Madeline Anderson (2G, 1A). Hofstra also returns CAA All-Rookie Team selection senior Kelly Gerdes on the backline, who made her Pride debut as a junior after missing two seasons due to injury. Hofstra boasts eight newcomers who will bolster the team at all positions. PRIDE SOCIAL @HofstraPride SCOUTING REPORT PITTSBURGH: The Panthers struggled in 2016, going and scoring just eight goals. Pitt will be looking for more offense this season, particularly after the graduation of Alex Wright, who was responsible for three of the team s goals. Sarah Krause returns after leading the team with 28 shots and finishing with a goal and two assists. The Panthers were predicted to finish last in the ACC in the preseason poll. PENN STATE: A season after claiming the National Championship, the Nittany Lions went in 2016, advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Penn State is favored to top the Big Ten once again, and it returns its top three point-producers in Frannie Crouse, Megan Schafer and Charlotte Williams, who combined for 58 points last season. Crouse and Emily Ogle were also named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List. The Pride finished the 2016 season at 4-5 in conference play, good for seventh. Defending CAA champion Northeastern was the unanimous favorite with 81 points. PRESEASON ALL-CAA Junior defender Madeline Anderson was named to the Preseason All-CAA Team. Anderson, who has been in the Hofstra starting lineup since she was a freshman, came off the field just twice last season, logging 1600 minutes. An incredibly strong one-onone defender, Anderson also has the ability to create offense from the back, finishing last season with two goals and an assist, including scoring the overtime-winner against Fairleigh Dickinson. As a key member of the Pride s backline, Anderson helped hold opponents to one goal or fewer in 12 games last season. CONFERENCE CALL The Pride returns two players who earned postseason honors for the Colonial Athletic Association in 2016 in seniors Kristin Desmond and Kelly Gerdes. Desmond was named to the All-CAA Third-Team after posting six goals and two assists. Gerdes earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team in a unique situation, as she made her Hofstra debut as a junior after missing two seasons due to injury. OPENING DAY Hofstra is in Opening Day matches after defeating Buffalo, 1-0, to open the 2016 campaign. DESMOND ON DUTY Senior Kristin Desmond finished second on the team in 2016 with 14 points on six goals and two assists to earn All-CAA Third-Team honors for the Pride. The six goals marked a career-high for Desmond, who scored three as a freshman and five as a sophomore. Desmond s career-high point total came in her second season, when she added eight assists for 18 points. RUNNING WITH RADWAN Senior Noriana Radwan had a breakout season in 2016, finishing with six goals and an assist to rank third on the team with 13 points. BUONCORE S BACK After taking a season off to focus on academics, Jenn Buoncore, now a junior has rejoined the Pride. A 2015 CAA All-Rookie selection, Buoncore was an offensive force in her first season, racking up two goals and five assists for nine points. HULBERT AT THE HELM Senior Emily Hulbert has made an impact anchoring the Pride s midfield. The Australia native missed half of the 2016 season with an injury, but Hofstra was 6-2 when she was in the starting lineup. HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE Hofstra has posted a record of.500 or better on home turf for 18 straight seasons, dating back to In 2002, the final season that the Pride played on University Field, Hoftsra suffered just one loss at home, finshing 9-1 in Hempstead. Since the Pride has begun play at Hofstra Soccer Stadium, the team is at home, and since Head Coach Simon Riddiough began his tenure in 2006, the Pride is in the friendly confines of Hofstra Soccer Stadium. 2 HOFSTRA WOMEN S SOCCER GAME NOTES 2017

The Pride s only evening losses came at the hands of Drexel and Charleston, with both being road games. QUICK STRIKES In each of Hofstra s opening weekend games in 2016, the Pride found the back of the net within the first eight minutes of play. Jill Mulholland scored Hofstra s first goal of the season in just the third minute of the opener against Buffalo. Then, against then-no. 2 Penn State, Noriana Radwan opened scoring in the eighth minute. NEW FACES The Hofstra Women s Soccer team welcomes eight newcomers for the 2017 season, including two transfers. The incoming class represents four countries, with Lucy Porter, Jordan Littleboy and Lucy Shepherd coming to Hofstra from England, Bella Richards making the trip from New Zealand, Monique Iannella hailing from Australia, and Sabrina Painter (Maryland), Cybele Laisney (New York) and Sabrina Bryan (Pennsylvania) representing the United States. Iannella and Painter are the two transfers of the group, with Iannella coming from Texas and Painter moving from Coastal Carolina. AV CLUB Freshmen Lucy Porter and Lucy Shepherd come to Hofstra after playing as teammates for Aston Villa Ladies FC in Division 2 of the FA Women s Super League in England. Shepherd helped lead the U17 squad to the FA Youth Cup final in , becoming the first-ever Aston Villa player to score in the tournament s championship game. RIDDIOUGH VS. RANKED OPPONENTS Hofstra has faced off against ranked opponents on 16 occasions since Riddiough took over in 2006, and the Pride has yet to come away with a victory. Hofstra has lost by a one-goal margin on nine of those occasions, including taking No. 6 Penn State to overtime in 2007 and forcing extra time with No. 25 Indiana in The Pride played three contests against ranked opponents in Hofstra fell to No. 6 Penn State, 2-1, in the season opener, and the Nittany Lions went on to win the National Championship. The Pride also played No. 24 Rutgers in the Penn State Invitational, losting 1-0, before the Scarlet Knights, then ranked No. 9, were responsible for Hofstra s exit from the NCAA Tournament, beating the Pride, 2-0, in the second round. In 2016, Hofstra took a 3-1 loss to then-second ranked Penn State on Aug. 26 in University Park. CONFERENCE DOMINANCE The Pride has had a strong run in CAA play for more than a decade, posting a conference record of.500 or better in 14 of the past 15 seasons and earning at least a share of the regular season title on four occasions. Since Head Coach SImon Riddiough took over in 2006, Hofstra is in conference. CAA OPENERS Since Head Coach Simon Riddiough took the helm in 2006, Hofstra is 9-2 in CAA opening games, including one overtime loss. The Pride has outscored its opponents in those games. Since taking over the head coaching responsibilities, Riddiough has not had a losing season and has guided Hofstra to two Colonial Athletic Association championships, capturing the title in 2007 and 2012 while leading the Pride to the league s title game in 2008, 2010 and Riddiough s career record is in his 11 years for an average of more than 12 wins per season. He has won double-digit games in every season since Riddiough led Hofstra to its 15th consecutive winning season in 2016, posting a record, including going in a challenging nonconference schedule and holding a 7-2 record at Hofstra Soccer Stadium. He helped Jill Mulholland etch her name into the program record books in her final season as she posted 13 goals and eight assists. Mulholland earned spots on the NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic Region and All-CAA First Teams. In addition, defender Emily Agudelo was named to the NSCAA All-Region Third Team and All-CAA Second Team.
