The Badgers (5-0) and No. 6 Minnesota (3-1) represent the Big Ten Conference, taking on No. 11 North Carolina (5-0) and Louisville (4-2) of the ACC in the challenge. AT THE NET FACTS Wisconsin plays its third ranked team of the season in No. 11 North Carolina. UW has already faced No. 6 Hawai i and No. 18 San Diego. The Badgers won their second straight tournament of the season, sweeping San Diego and Texas A&M Corpus Christi to win the HotelRED Invitational. UW has lost only one set all season, falling in the third set at No. 6 Hawai i. The Badgers have swept their last four opponents, winning 13 straight sets. Senior Lauren Carlini leads the Big Ten with assists per set while the Badgers lead the conference with digs and assists per set. Wisconsin also ranks second in blocks per set (3.31) and second in kills per set (15.25). Wisconsin averaged an impressive 4.42 blocks per set on the weekend. The Badgers had 14.5 team blocks against USD on Friday and 12.0 blocks against TAMCC on Sunday. The Islanders failed to record a block as Wisconsin outblocked its opponents in two matches. Sophomore Tionna Williams was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Badgers on the weekend with 2.20 blocks per set. Senior Haleigh Nelson added 2.00 blocks per set, senior Lauren Carlini chipped in 1.17 blocks per set and freshman Molly Haggerty contributed 1.00 blocks per set. The Badgers drew nearly 12,000 fans for their first two matches of the 2016 home season. UW was also ranked second last week, which ties for the highest ranking in program history. The Badgers were ranked second for three weeks at the end of the 2014 regular season and second in the final polls in 2013 and Nebraska (4-0) has been ranked first in the poll all season long, this week earning all 64 first-place votes. Texas (5-1) and Kansas (6-0) remain third and fourth, while Minnesota (3-1) moves up one spot to fifth. The Big Ten has a total of eight teams in this week s poll. In addition to three teams in the top five, Ohio State (5-1) falls one spot to 12th. Penn State (2-3) drops four places to 17th while Purdue (5-1) moves up four spots to 20th. Illinois (2-3) drops four places to 21st while Michigan (6-0) moves into the top 25 for the first time this season at No. 22. Michigan State (5-1) is the top team receiving votes.. UW UNDEFEATED IN CHALLENGE Wisconsin is undefeated in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge with a 4-0 record. In 2014, the Badgers swept Louisville and Notre Dame in Minneapolis. In 2014, UW swept UNC and downed Louisville, 3-1, in Louisville, Kentucky. The Big Ten has dominated the Challenge, with Minnesota also sporting a 4-0 record. TOUGH SCHEDULE The Badgers have one of the toughest schedules in the nation this season, playing 20 matches against teams ranked or receiving votes in last week s national coaches poll. In 2015, Wisconsin was 8-5 against top-25 teams this season, tying for the fifth-most wins over ranked teams in program history. Dodge and Mallory Dixon saw their first action in a match last weekend at the HotelRED Invitational. Dodge, a 5-10 defensive specialist, played back row for Romana Kriskova. She had a careerhigh six digs and two assists against No. 18 San Diego on Friday. Dixon, a 5-9 setter, served five times on the weekend, picking up her first career ace against Texas A&M on Sunday. Fellow freshmen Molly Haggerty and Sarah Dodd made their UW debuts during the season opening Rainbow Wahine Invitational. The quartet make up the 13th-ranked recruiting class in the country, according the PrepVolleyball.com. It is the 11th time in the 14 years of the ranking that the Badgers have been in the top 30 and 10th time in the top 20. Wisconsin is the third-ranked Big Ten team, coming in behind No. 8 Minnesota and No. 12 Nebraska. Seniors Lauren Carlini and Haleigh Nelson were named to the 14-player Preseason All- Big Ten team. STRONG TEAM RETURNS UW lost only one letterwinner to graduation, starting libero Taylor Morey. Wisconsin returned 11 letterwinners and six starters. The Badgers returned 100 percent of their kills and blocks, 82 percent of their service aces, and 71 percent of their digs. Juniors Lauryn Gillis and Kelli Bates return after leading the team with 3.16 and 3.13 kills per set, respectively, last season. Sophomore Tionna Williams led UW as a freshman with 1.31 blocks per set while senior Haleigh Nelson added 1.23 blocks per set. Nelson also led the team with 31 service aces while Carlini and Bates tied for third with 18 aces. With the loss of Morey, Wisconsin s top backrow player is Carlini, who averaged 2.79 digs per set. BUSY SUMMER Senior Lauren Carlini was a member of the U.S. National Team that won a bronze medal at the Pan-American Cup in the Dominican Republic. Freshman Molly Haggerty won her fourth straight AAU National Championship, earning MVP honors. She also aided SPRI to the 2016 AAU World Championship with a win over the Dominican Republic.
