In subsequent references of the same presentation the team may be referred to by nickname - Horned Frogs. A shorter version of the nickname, Frogs, is acceptable in later usage. TCU QUICK HITS TCU returns for the 2014 season after posting a winning record for the ninth time in the last 12 years under head coach Prentice Lewis in marks the 19th season in program history and the 13th under the helm of Lewis. 14 returners will be on the roster for the Horned Frogs, including five returning starters and the libero. Under the tenure of Lewis, TCU has finished with a.500 record in nonconference play every year since 2002 and has garnered at least one preseason tournament title. Ashley Smith has been a consistent leader for the Frogs this season and leads the team with 223 kills and 2.86 kills per set. Smith has led the team with double-digit kills in 12 matches and also has 183 digs on the season and 36 total blocks. Smith leads the team with six double-doubles on the season. Stephanie Holland is following close behind and is helping shoulder the offensive load. Holland has 222 kills on the season, 2.74 kills per set and is shutting down at the net with 45 total blocks which is good for third on the team. The Frogs once again have two players ranked in the top 10 in hitting percentage for the Big 12, with Regan McGuire checking in at No. 9 with a.325 clip and Blaire Pickens sitting at No. 10 in the league with a.317 hitting. Pickens currently holds the school record with a perfect hitting clip after going 10-for-10 against Grambling State earlier this year. Trisha Langley is lethal from behind the service line and is ranked No. 2 in the Big 12 and No. 12 nationally with 0.48 aces per set. The Frogs sit atop the Big 12 in service aces with 1.49 per set and 124 total aces, which is good for No. 43 and No. 57, respectively, nationally. TCU has been shutting down at the net the last few matches and has recorded 10 plus blocks in eight matches this season including five of the last nine and a season-high 16.0 against Iowa State. Mattie Burleson is ranked No. 3 in conference only matches with 45 total blocks and 1.36 blocks per set. Sutton Sunstrum has held down the backcourt for TCU despite missing a few matches with an injury and has recorded 226 digs and 3.83 digs per set which is ranked No. 5 in the Big 12. LAST TIME OUT: WEST VIRGINIA RECAP The TCU volleyball team opened the second half of Big 12 play with a decisive 3-1 (25-21, 25-22, 24-26, 25-19) win over West Virginia on Wednesday night at the University Recreation Center. The Horned Frogs (13-10, 3-6 Big 12) used a balanced offensive attack to take down the Mountaineers (13-10, 3-6 Big 12), with Ashley Smith, Stephanie Holland, Sarita Mikals and Mattie Burleson all notching double-digit kills. Holland led the charge with 13 kills and a.367 hitting percentage, while also picking up a season-high six total blocks. Burleson finished with 11 kills on the night and tied her career-high with 10 total blocks to record the first double-double of her career. Smith and Mikals rounded out the double-digit performers, with both notching 10 kills while also finishing with double-doubles on the night with 10 and 13 digs, respectively. 2

3 Regan McGuire was just shy of joining the double-digit club and chipped in nine kills, but notched a career-high.615 hitting percentage to go with two service aces, two digs and two blocks. BREAKING DOWN THE OPPONENT - KANSAS After starting Big 12 action 0-3, Kansas bounced back to take four of the next five matches and sit at fourth in the standings with a 16-4, 4-4 record on the season. The Jayhawks finished the first half of league action by sweeping up Texas Tech at home with a match-high 13.5 blocks. Kansas is sitting near the top in conference only matches in digs per set (15.09), blocks per set (2.71), kills (13.48) and hitting percentage (.238). Chelsea Albers is leading the offensive attack for the Jayhawks with 256 kills and 3.08 kills per set, which is ranked in the top 10 in the conference. Albers chalked up a double-double of 10 kills and 10 digs in the win over Texas Tech, while also chipping in seven total blocks. Kansas has three players recording a high hitting clip, with Kayla Cheadle (.369), Kelsie Payne (.356) and Tayler Soucie (.338) all sitting in the top 10 in the league. Ainise Havili is dishing out the assists for Kansas and is ranked in the top 20 in the nation with assists per set. Havili leads the league in assists in conference only matches and has 11 double-doubles on the year, including five of the first eight Big 12 matches. Cassie Wait is leading the defense for the Jayhawks and sits at No. 3 in the conference with 4.75 digs per set. LAST TIME WE MET Despite hitting above.250 and two newcomers finishing with career-high days, the TCU volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision (25-17, 25-19, 25-19) to Kansas just 14 days ago. The Horned Frogs were able to get a double-digit kill match from Ashley Smith for the 11th time this season as the sophomore finished with a team-high 10. Mia Swanegan notched a career-high nine kills, while Stephanie Holland chipped in eight kills and four assists on the day. Sutton Sunstrum was able to lead the team in the back row by picking up 19 digs for 11th double-digit dig match of the season, while Skyler Flynn started the first match of her career and tied her career-high with seven digs. Kansas had three players record double-digit kills, with Tayler Soucie leading the charge with 16 kills, while Sara McClinton chipped in 12 and Kelsie Payne finished with 10. Ainise Havili dished out a double-double of 45 assists and 11 digs, while Cassie Wait led all players with 20 digs. SERIES HISTORY This will be the seventh meeting all-time between the programs, with Kansas snagging all five wins in conference action since TCU joined the Big 12 in The Frogs were able to come out victorious in the first-ever meeting in 1999 with a five-set thriller in Lawrence. In the two matchups last year, the Jayhawks were able to easily take care of TCU on their home court. When the match returned just over a month later, the Frogs were able to take the early advantage with a first-set win, but Kansas came back to take control of the match by winning the next three sets to sweep the series in First Meeting: 9/10/99 - TCU wins 3-2 (5-15, 15-13, 9-15, 15-9, 15-5) Last Meeting: 10/18/14 - Kansas wins 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-19) THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME The home of the TCU volleyball team, the University Recreation Center, houses a perfect atmosphere for the Frogs as they have gone nearly undefeated in one of the rowdiest atmospheres in the Big 12. TCU is 10-2 at home this season and has swept four of its opponents on the home floor. The Frogs are currently 3-1 at home in conference action and earned their first victory over Iowa State in a dominating four-set fashion. The Frogs are averaging a.283 hitting clip at home, while holding opponents to a.160 hitting percentage. The Frogs are also striking down kills per set to their opponents 11.28, while also notching 2.67 blocks per set and 1.79 service aces per set. The Frogs are sitting at No. 2 in the conference and No. 31 nationally with a team hitting clip of.259, with two players hitting above.300 (Blaire Pickens:.317 and Regan McGuire:.325). TCU has had at least one player ranked in the top 10 in the Big 12 in hitting percentage every week this season, while Blaire Pickens and Stephanie Holland have etched their names in the TCU record book with their high clips. Pickens holds the TCU record with a perfect hitting percentage, while Holland sits at No. 4 with a.800 hitting percentage with both clips coming against Grambling State. TRY AND GET PAST THAT BLOCK After starting the season last in the Big 12 in blocking, TCU has climbed the charts and now sits at No. 5 in the league with 2.32 blocks per set and No. 5 in conference only matches with 2.53 blocks per set. The Frogs have posted 10 or more blocks eight times this season including five of the last nine Big 12 matches this season. TCU went to Lubbock and put up 11.5 blocks before returning home to record a season-high 16.0 blocks against Iowa State, 10.0 blocks at Oklahoma and 12.0 blocks versus Baylor. Individually, Mattie Burleson No. 3 in Big 12 players in conference only mathces with 1.36 blocks per set and is second in the conference with 45 total blocks. FORZA FROGS! The TCU volleyball team got a little extra playing time this summer, as the Frogs traveled to Italy for a 10-day tour from May 25-June 5. This was the second European tour for TCU under the helm of Lewis after the Frogs traveled to Hungary, Slovenia, Austria and the Czech Republic in The Horned Frogs toured, explored and played matches in several cities - Milan, Verona, Venice, Pisa, Cinque Terre, Florence and Rome. TCU played six matches during the tour against some of the top opponents in Italy, with Bring It Pormotions organizing the entire trip for the Frogs. BURLESON EARNS WEEKLY BIG 12 ACCOLADE Senior Mattie Burleson was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 29 after her performance in the opening week of league action against Texas Tech and Iowa State. Burleson, an Edmond, Okla. native, did not let anything past her at the net this and finished with a league-best 15 total blocks and 1.88 blocks per set. Burleson shut Iowa State down at the net in the league home opener and tied her career-high with 10 total blocks, while also leading all players with five blocks against Texas Tech on Wednesday. The 10 blocks by Burleson ties for No. 6 all-time in program history and is ranked No. 1 in four-set conference matches. The middle blocker was crucial in the Horned Frogs 3-1 victory on Saturday and finished off the four-set upset victory with two straight blocks to win the match over Iowa State for the first time in program history. She also notched nine kills for the week, 18.0 points and five digs. TITLES, TITLES AND MORE TITLES With their 3-0 performance at the TCU Molten Invitational, the Horned Frogs nabbed their first tournament title of Under the tenure of head coach Prentice Lewis, TCU has won at least one tournament dating back to Lewis first season in TCU has won multiple titles during preseason in a year, including a program-best three in 2007, 2009 and MCRECORD BREAKER Regan McGuire is making sure her name is etched many times in the TCU record book for her stellar play at the net. 5 1,000 FOR HEIST Alexia Heist dished out her 1,000 career assist against Notre Dame and now sits at 1,385 in only her junior season. The El Paso, Texas native has been the main starter in the TCU 6-2 offense for two straight seasons after recording 647 assists in Heist has led the team in assists 19 times this season and has picked up 14 double-doubles in her career, including a team-high 10 last fall. The junior is also second on the team with 20 service aces and has also recorded 159 digs on the season. Heist currently is ranked No. 6 in the TCU record book in assists, while her 4.78 assists per set in her career is ranked No. 8. PERFECT PICKENS Blaire Pickens was deemed upstoppable in the match against Grambling State and shattered the TCU single match hitting percentage record by recording 10 kills on 10 attempts for a perfect hitting percentage. The Anaheim Hills, Calif., native became the first player in TCU history to record a perfect hitting percentage with at least 10 attempts and replaces former All-American Kourtney Edwards at the top of the record book. Edwards previously hit.867 ( ) at Air Force on Oct. 31, Pickens became only the fourth player in Big 12 history to have a perfect hitting percentage with at least 10 attempts and the first since WATCH OUT FOR LANGLEY Trisha Langley has been tearing up the court from behind the service line for TCU and is ranked No. 57 in the nation with 31 total service aces and No. 12 with 0.48 service aces per set. Langley is at the top of the Big 12 in service aces in a three-set match (6), tied for second in conference four-set matches (4) and is second in service aces in a five-set match (5). TIME TO FACE NO. 1...AGAIN Facing the No. 1 team in the country is not new for the Horned Frogs. TCU met up with the No. 1 team for the first time in program-history, when they faced off against Texas in November 2013 and again when they met up with Penn State in the opening weekend of action. The highest ranked opponent TCU has beaten was No. 13 Colorado State, which came on Nov. 8, TCU is 5-50 against ranked opponents and under coach Prentice Lewis, the Horned Frogs are 5-40 against ranked opponents. TCU s first win against a ranked opponent came on Nov. 15, 2007, when the Horned Frogs beat then-no. 17 Colorado State 3-2 (22-30, 30-22, 22-30, 30-28, 18-16). TCU s last win against a ranked opponent came on Nov. 10, 2011, when the Horned Frogs beat then-no. 23 Colorado State 3-2 (25-21, 25-23, 18-25, 20-25, 15-11). In 2012, TCU faced a school-record nine ranked opponents in a single season. This is the second season in a row that TCU has played a top 5 team in the preseason after facing off against No. 3 USC last fall. LEFT HANDED DUO With the use of a 6-2 offense, TCU depends heavily on their two lefties, Stephanie Holland and Blaire Pickens, for kills. Holland is second on the team this year with 222 kills and has been named to two alltournament teams - Penn State Classic & TCU Molten Invitational. The Richardson, Texas native was named AVCA All-Southwest Region Honorable Mention in 2013 after leading the team in kills in nine matches and finishing at least a.333 hitting percentage in seven of the last nine matches. MEET THE NEWCOMERS TCU has brought in three newcomers to compliment the 14 returners for this year s roster. Sarita Mikals transfers to TCU from Houston, where she was the top performer this season after appearing in all 33 matches, 122 sets and finishing with 393 total kills and 312 digs. Mia Swanegan was the lone fall signee from Blue Springs, Mo., where she a three-time allconference and all-district selection. Skyler Flynn is the final newcomer from Orange Lutheran High School in California, where she was named First-Team All-League and Honorable Mention All-Orange County FILL THAT GYM 1,350 may be the max attendance at TCU, but that does not stop the Horned Frogs from filling the gym to make it one of the hardest places to play in the country. 17,280 fans walked through the University Recreation Center doors in 2013, as the team finished 36th in the nation in attendance. TCU boasted seven sellouts in 2013 and their average of 1,329 fans was good for fifth in the Big 12. The Frogs have posted 108 wins in the URC since 2003 and a.702 winning percentage. TCU has had over 1,000 fans attend five home matches this year and is currently ranked No. 28 nationally with fans in attendance to the 10 home matches in THE SOPHOMORES The eight freshmen from a year ago have all grown up and will use their experience as sophomores in Trisha Langley and Shane Peters were two rookies who saw action in every match last fall. Langley led the team in service aces (30) and helped run the 6-2 offense with Alexia Heist. Peters led the team in digs (394) after starting the last 25 matches in the defensive role and recorded 20 double-digit dig matches. Ashley Smith was a constent presence on offense for TCU and finished second on the team with 265 kills and first in kills per set with Smith finished the season strong and picked up the final Rookie of the Week honors, while Natalie Gower earned a weekly honor earlier in the season. Gower and Regan McGuire split time at middle blocker for the Frogs, as the duo were consistent blockers for TCU, as the pair combined for total blocks. Gower recorded four double-digit kill matches, wile McGuire saw action in 55 sets and put down 50 kills. BIG 12 - THE BEST IN THE NATION TCU enters its third season in the Big 12 Conference, which has established itself as the best conference in the nation for volleyball. The Big 12 has had three teams finish in the top 25 in each year and a total of 70 top 25 finishes all-time. By winning the 2012 Division I National Championship, Texas became the third Big 12 team in the last 13 years to capture the title marked the fifth straight season four or more Big 12 teams earned bids to the NCAA postseason event. 6
