The Oklahoma volleyball returns to action with a home match against Texas Tech on Wednesday, October 28 at 7:00 pm. The Sooners were off this past weekend after weather complications cancelled Saturday s match at West Virginia. About the Sooners... Oklahoma is 7-12 overall and 1-6 in the Big 12 after suffering its second-consecutive sweep of the season at the hands of No. 7 Kansas on Wednesday. Sophomore middle blocker Marion Hazelwood is second on the team with a.302 attack rate, but has stepped up with a team-leading.336 rate in conference play to go with a 2.29 kills per set average; up from 1.53 in nonconference play. Redshirt-junior outside hitter Madison Ward leads the OU attack with 3.00 kills per set after notching a team-high 14 at Kansas. Ward, who has seven double-doubles, has led the Sooners in kills seven times this season. Junior outside hitter Kimmy Gardiner has posted a team-leading eight double-doubles on the season. Since defeating Oklahoma in the Big 12 opener, Texas Tech has dropped six out of seven matches and were swept in all six losses. Lauren Douglass leads the Red Raider attack with 3.14 kills per set on a.407 attack rate. At setter, Marguerite Grubb dishes out assists per set, while libero Carlie Foust averages 4.99 digs per set. Despite averaging just 2.10 blocks per set as a team, Tech is holding opponents to a.182 hitting percentage. Last Time They Met... The Sooners won the first and third set at Lubbock back on September 23, but couldn t close out the match as they lost in five. The fifth set deep with the Red Raiders taking it, Four players finished with double-digit kill totals for OU with Ward leading the way with 18 on a.306 attack rate along with 12 digs. Julia Doyle picked up a double-double with 59 assists and 11 digs. Tech s Allen matched Ward for the lead in kills at 18 along with 12 digs. Foust led all players with 29 digs, while Oklahoma s Taylor Migliazzo notched 18. Up Next... The Sooners close out the month at Iowa State on Saturday, October 31 at 12:00 pm. They return home a week later on Saturday, November 7 to face Kansas at 12:00 pm. Doubling Up... Junior outside hitter Kimmy Gardiner leads Oklahoma with eight double-doubles on the season, which is good enough for fourth most in the Big 12. As a team, the Sooners are second in the conference with 21 total double-doubles. Kansas State leads the league with 29 as a team. Oklahoma is tied with TCU for having the most players record a doubledouble at five. 4,000 Dimes... Senior setter Julia Doyle became the fifth player in OU history to reach 4,000 career assists. It came on her 23rd of the night against Kansas State (10/17) on a kill for Holst. She entered the season ranked sixth at Oklahoma and passed Rachel Jackson ( ) for fifth earlier in the season. Doyle is the Big 12 active career leader with 4,031 assists. Holst on the Up-Swing... Senior outside hitter Kierra Holst is first among active Big 12 players with 1,202 career kills. She is currently 10th at Oklahoma after passing Margaret Page ( ) and Trenell Carter ( ) at TCU (10/7). Holst now trails Kerri Mulry ( ) for ninth by 45. Since the start of Big 12 play, Holst has reached double digits in kills in four out of seven matches. 1,000-Piece dignugget... Senior defensive specialist Taylor Migliazzo (@mignugget on social media) reached the 1,000-dig mark against Maryland on September 18. She finished the match with 13 as her ninth of the win was the milestone marker. Migliazzo became the 15th player in program history to reach the 1,000-dig mark at OU. The most recent to do so was Maria Fernanda ( ), the Sooners all-time leader at 2,204. Migliazzo, who has 1,073, currently trails Gloria Holcomb ( ) for 11th at OU with 1,122. Big 12 Openers... Oklahoma opened conference play with a 3-2 loss at Texas Tech (9/23). The Sooners are now in Big 12 openers dating back to the league s inaugural season in OU s loss to the Red Raiders snapped a stretch of nine conference-opening wins. Under Restrepo, the Sooners are 9-3 in the first Big 12 match of the season. In home Big 12 openers, OU is 11-8; having won each of its last seven. Rookie Honors... Outside hitter Alyssa Enneking was named the Big 12 Rookie of the Week (Sept. 14) after hitting.291 with a 2.67 kills per set average at the Borderland Invitational. She started all three matches after appearing in just one set through the Sooners first six matches of the season. Outside hitter Madison Drescher earned Rookie of the Week (Oct. 5) after hitting.385 with 2.38 kills and 1.25 blocks per set in a pair of Big 12 matches. Drescher and Enneking are the first rookie duo at OU to earn the honor in the same season. Last season, Oklahoma claimed five weekly awards with Marion Hazelwood earning the team s only rookie award. Julia Doyle (2012) and Sallie McLaurin (2010) hold the OU record for Rookie of the Week awards with three each.

The NCAA released the first RPI of the season (10/5) with the Sooners ranked 54th. OU has dropped to 64th, but hold the second highest ranking of a team with a losing record behind Iowa (10-13, 48). The next closest team with a losing record is LSU (9-11, 99). 5-1 vs The Sooners ran a 5-1 style offense with Doyle as the setter the last three seasons. This season, Oklahoma has split its time between the 5-1 and 6-2 offense. Freshman setter Audrey Alford and freshman outside hitter Madison Drescher have been injected into the 6-2 rotation. OU is 7-6 when predominantly running its 6-2 and 0-6 when running its 5-1. Doyle is averaging 7.14 assists per set with 1.87 digs per set, while Alford has added 4.75 and Vs. The Ranked... The Sooners are winless in six tries against ranked opponents this season, including 0-5 against the Top-10. Under head coach Santiago Restrepo, Oklahoma owns a (.212) record against ranked teams. Over STATISTICAL LEADERS NCAA STATS a stretch of six NCAA Tournament seasons from , the Sooners went (.306) vs. ranked teams. After an 0-19 record in his first two seasons at Oklahoma, Restrepo and the Sooners are (.263) against teams in the Top-25. OU s last win over a ranked opponent was at No. 2 Texas (10/25/14). Streak Snappers... In the OU Invitational finale, the Sooners snapped No. 7 Washington s perfect, 28-0 record in sets played. The Huskies, who improved to 10-0 with the win, had not lost a set all season. Against No. 3 USC in the week s opener, Oklahoma handed the Trojans their first set loss since the season opener on August 28. When he was just one-and-a-half years old, Javier Restrepo was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). In August 2008, he had a relapse and received a bone marrow transplant and then received a liver transplant but unfortunately relapsed again. Javi fought the disease like a true champion, nearly beating it on multiple occasions before it ultimately claimed his life on July 31, 2009.
