The University of Oklahoma volleyball team is on the road Wednesday, October 25 against No. 11 Kansas. The Sooners and Jayhawks take the floor at the Horesji Center for a 6:30 p.m. start. About the Sooners... Oklahoma is 5-16 overall and 2-6 in the Big 12 following a fourset loss to No. 3 Texas at McCasland Field House on Sunday. Junior outside hitter Alyssa Enneking leads the Sooners offense with 4.05 kills and the defense with 2.97 digs per set. Junior outside hitter Madison Drescher is second on the team with 2.88 kills per set. Guiding the OU attack is junior setter Audrey Alford, who has lifted her assists per set average to 9.00 since the Sooners returned to running a 5-1 offense. Defensively, she contributed 1.92 digs per set. Redshirt-junior defensive specialist Rachel Manriquez reclaimed the starting libero position at Baylor (Sept. 30), averaging 3.36 digs and 1.32 assists per set since then, to lift her season average to 2.42 digs per set. Scouting the Jayhawks... No. 11 Kansas is 18-3 on the year and 7-1 in the Big 12. The Jayhawks lone conference loss was to No. 5 Texas (Oct. 11) and immediately followed by sweeps of No. 24 Baylor (Oct. 18) and Texas Tech (Oct. 21). Reigning Big 12 Player of the Year Kelsie Payne leads KU with 3.95 kills per set on a.320 hitting percentage. Fellow outside hitter Madison Rigdon is second with 3.72 kills to go with 2.51 digs per set. Setter Ainise Havili, a threetime All-American and two-time Big 12 Setter of the Year, manages the Kansas attack to the tune of assists, while adding 3.23 digs per set. The Jayhawks are hitting a collective.271 as a team and holding opponents to a.201 attack rate. Oklahoma fell behind two sets to none on October 7 before rallying to win the third, No. 11 Kansas then dominated the fourth, 25-11, to clinch the match. Alyssa Enneking led all players with 16 kills, while Kelsie Payne powered the Jayhawks attack with 13. Ainise Havili notched a double-double with 46 assists and 14 digs. Enneking added 11 digs for her ninth doubledouble of the season. All-Time vs. Kansas... Oklahoma leads the all-time series, Kansas swept the season series in 2012 and won its third in a row against the Sooners in Lawrence on October 9, OU ended that streak with a 3-1 win at home on November 20, The series started with a 2-0 OU win in KU has been ranked in each of the last seven match-ups, including a Sooner win at home in 2014 against the No. 23 Jayhawks. Over the last five matches, Madison Drescher is averaging 3.44 kills per set; reaching double figures in four of five. She began that stretch with a 13-kill effort by hitting.312 in a sweep of Texas Tech (Oct. 4). Against No. 3 Texas (Oct. 22), Drescher began the match with 10 kills on her first 10 swings and finished the day with 17 kills. Top-10 Big 12 Hitters... Junior outside hitters Alyssa Enneking and Madison Drescher are the top ranked duo of attackers in Big 12 matches this season. They make up one of just two pairs of teammates in the league that rank in the Top-10 in kills per set in conference-only matches. Enneking, whose 125 kills are tied for the league-lead, ranks second in the league with 4.03 and Drescher is seventh at 3.48 kills per set to combine for a 7.51 average. Texas Micaya White (4th, 3.62) and Lexi Sun (10th, 3.38) are the second ranked hitting duo in the league; averaging Milestone Tracker... Setter Audrey Alford recorded the 2,000th assist of her Sooner career against Kansas State (Sept. 20). She moved into ninth all-time at OU against Maryland (Sept. 15) as she recorded the 1,910th of her career to pass Jessica Barney ( ). Alford, who reached the 2,000-assist mark in her 61st match and now has 2,249 in her career, is now chasing Julie Chester ( ), who dished out 2,794 career assists, for eighth all-time at Oklahoma. Vs. The Ranked... The Sooners have dropped 20-consecutive matches to ranked opponents, including a 0-14 mark against Top-10 opponents. Under head coach Santiago Restrepo, Oklahoma owns a (.188) record against ranked teams. Over a stretch of six NCAA Tournament seasons from , the Sooners went (.306) vs. ranked teams. After a 0-19 record in his first two seasons at Oklahoma, Restrepo and the Sooners are (.228) against teams in the Top-25. OU s last win over a ranked opponent was at No. 2 Texas (Oct. 25, 2014). Libero Tracker... Freshman Kira Morikawa has earned the bulk of the starts at libero with 13 through 21 matches of her rookie campaign. As a starter she is averaging 3.37 digs per set. Redshirt-junior Rachel Manriquez has been called on to start the other eight matches to push her career total to 50 starts at libero. In her career, Manriquez has averaged 3.38 digs per set and started 13 matches in 2015 and all 29 matches in Double-Doubles... Five Sooners combined for 28 double-doubles in 2016 and exactly half of those double-doubles return for Audrey Alford and Alyssa Enneking each collected seven doubledoubles a year ago. Alford picked up her first of 2017 with a 23-assist, 11-dig effort in the first match of the season. Enneking leads the team with a career-best 11 so far in Alford and Morgan Miller, who has added a triple-double, have each recorded four double-doubles through 21 matches. Sooner Youth Movement... Oklahoma has regularly started three freshmen this season, including middle blocker Paige Anderson, who has started all 21 matches. Kira Morikawa has earned 13 starts at libero and outside hitter-turned-middle blocker Sarah Maras has started 11 of the Sooners matches. Oklahoma last used three starters in its lineup early in the 2012 season with Julia Doyle, Kierra Holst and Madison Ward in the lineup. That OU trio combined to start 62 matches, including 33 by Doyle, 24 by Holst and five by Ward, who suffered a season-ending injury. The 2017 Sooner freshmen have combined for 45 starts. OU freshmen did not make a single start in 2016 and Audrey Alford was the only freshman in the lineup in 2015 as she started the final 11 matches of the season at setter. All-Tournament, All The Time... Against No. 18 USC (Sept. 15), Alyssa Enneking recorded the 500th kill of her career on her way to earning All-Tournament honors at the Maryland Challenge. It marked the fourth All-Tournament award in as many weeks for Enneking as she added to her accolades from the NIKE Invitational, Bobcat Invitational and Allstate Sugar Bowl Collegiate Classic. Enneking previously earned the first All-Tournament honor of her career at the 2016 Pac-12 Challenge, hosted by USC. OU has had an All-American middle blocker every year since 2011 in Sallie McLaurin (2011, 12, 13) and Marion Hazelwood (2014, 15, 16). Hazelwood, an early enrollee in the spring of 2014, graduated in just seven semesters and transferred to finish her collegiate career at Washington. The Sooners also move on without four-year starter Micaela Spann, who graduated after earning All-Big 12 Second Team in As a team, Oklahoma returned just four starts at middle blocker for 2017, including two by Leslie Atherton and two by outside hitter Madison Drescher in Paige Anderson has started at middle blocker as a freshman in all 21 matches and averaging 0.83 blocks per set. Fellow freshman Sarah Maras moved from outside to middle early in the season and is averaging 0.83 blocks per set. Big 12 Openers... OU opened conference play with a 3-2 loss to Kansas State (Sept. 20). The Sooners are now in Big 12 openers dating back to the league s inaugural season in OU s 2015 loss at Texas Tech snapped a stretch of nine conference-opening wins. Under Restrepo, the Sooners are 9-5 in the first Big 12 match of the season. In home Big 12 openers, OU is 11-9; having won seven in a row until this season. Restrepo, Files, Southern Miss Reunion... When the Sooners took the floor against Southern Miss (Sept. 9) it marked the first time for OU head coach Santiago Restrepo and assistant coach Kelly Files against their former team. Restrepo was the Golden Eagles head coach from , while Files played four years at USM from Oklahoma earned the win in four sets in the first-ever match-up. Triple-Double... In her Sooner debut, Morgan Miller recorded the first tripledouble at Oklahoma in seven years. Brianne Barker was the last to do so on December 4, She posted 10 kills, 57 assists and 14 digs in a NCAA Tournament First Round win over No. 22 Tulsa in Norman. Miller accomplished the feat with 12 kills, 17 assists and 15 digs against Seton Hall (Aug. 25). She nearly duplicated the effort in the finale against Colorado (Aug. 26). Miller went for nine kills, 16 assists and eight digs vs. CU. Preseason Team... Outside hitter Madison Drescher was the lone Sooner voted by the league s coaches to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team. Drescher s numbers against league opponents surpassed her overall numbers in 2016 with a 2.30 kills per set average as she hit.217 and added 0.62 blocks per set. Season Openers... OU is all-time in season openers following a 3-2 loss to Seton Hall (Aug. 25) at the NIKE Invitational. The Sooners are 10-4 in season-opening matches since the arrival of Santiago Restrepo in Oklahoma opened at home in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2011 and Big 12 Poll Position... Oklahoma finished seventh in the 2016 standings and was predicted to finish eighth by the Big 12 coaches in the preseason poll. After five straight years as the unanimous No. 1, Texas is first in the rankings, but the Longhorns claimed just six first place votes, while last year s regular season champion Kansas is No. 2 with three first place votes. When he was just one-and-ahalf years old, Javier Restrepo was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). In August 2008, he had a relapse and received a bone marrow transplant and then received a liver transplant but unfortunately relapsed again. Javi fought the disease like a true champion, nearly beating it on multiple occasions before it ultimately claimed his life on July 31, 3
