Oklahoma is 6-8 overall and off to a 0-2 start in the Big 12 for the first time since Redshirt-junior outside hitter Madison Ward leads the OU attack with a 3.17 kills per set average, while adding five double-double and 2.07 digs per set. Since the beginning of conference play she is averaging 3.78 kills per set and hitting.284. Sophomore middle blocker Marion Hazelwood is at 1.71 kills per set and swinging at a.303 attack rate overall, but has upped her numbers to 2.67 and.404 in league play. Junior middle blocker Micaela Spann is the team s leader in hitting percentage at.383 to go with 2.24 kills and a team-leading 1.17 blocks per set. On the Air... Baylor is off to a strong start under first-year head coach Ryan McGuyre at 12-3 overall. The Bears are 1-1 in Big 12 action following a sweep at the hands of Kansas State with a sweep of Texas Tech. Three players are averaging better than 2.50 kills per set; led by Katie Staiger at Shelly Fanning (2.78) is hitting a team-best.296, while Andie Malloy (2.58) has contributed 2.68 digs per set. Last Time They Met... No. 24 Oklahoma swept Baylor on the road to improve to 17-7 on November 8, Setter Julia Doyle dished out 30 assists and chipped in with six digs, five blocks and three service aces. Outside hitter Kierra Holst posted a match-high 15 kills on a.351 hitting percentage. All-Time vs. Baylor... The Sooners own the all-time series against the Bears, Oklahoma has won 11 of the last 12 matches dating back to 2008, with Baylor s lone win during that stretch coming in 2011 in Norman. Despite eight losses, including four at home, Oklahoma has yet to be swept this season and has been in every match it has played. The second set has proved most critical for the Sooners. When losing the second, they are 0-6 on the season. OU is 0-7 in matches tied at one set apiece. Streak Snappers... In the OU Invitational finale, the Sooners snapped No. 7 Washington s perfect, 28-0 record in sets played. The Huskies, who improved to 10-0 with the win, had not lost a set all season. Against No. 3 USC in the week s opener, Oklahoma handed the Trojans their first set loss since the season opener on August 28. Though the Sooners are 0-4 against ranked teams in 2014, they have earned five sets against such opponents and have yet to be swept this season. Big 12 Openers... Oklahoma opened conference play with a 3-2 loss at Texas Tech on September 23. The Sooners are now in Big 12 openers dating back to the league s inaugural season in Oklahoma s loss to the Red Raiders snapped a stretch of nine conferenceopening wins. Under Restrepo, the Sooners are 9-3 in the first Big 12 match of the season. In home Big 12 openers, OU is 11-8; having won each of its last seven. 1,000-Piece dignugget... Senior defensive specialist Taylor Migliazzo (@mignugget on social media) reached the 1,000-dig mark against Maryland on September 18. She finished the match with 13 as her ninth of the win was the milestone marker. Migliazzo became the 15th player in program history to reach the 1,000-dig mark at OU. The most recent to do so was Maria Fernanda ( ), the Sooners all-time leader at 2,204. Migliazzo, who has 1,043, currently trails Susan Jones ( ) for 12th at OU with 1,051. Rookie Honors... Freshman outside hitter Alyssa Enneking was named the Big 12 Rookie of the Week (Sept. 14) after hitting.291 with a 2.67 kills per set average at the Borderland Invitational. She started all three matches after appearing in just one set through the Sooners first six matches of the season. Last season, Oklahoma claimed five weekly awards with Marion Hazelwood earning the team s only rookie award. Julia Doyle (2012) and Sallie McLaurin (2010) hold the OU record for Rookie of the Week awards with three each. Defensively, the Terrapins are led by libero Amy Dion with 4.15 digs per set. No. 7 Washington (8-0) is a perfect 24-8 in sets played this season. Courtney Schwan powers the Huskies to the tune of 3.74 kills and 2.35 digs per set. Up Next... Oklahoma is one the road twice next week beginning Wednesday, October 7 at TCU. The week wraps at Texas Sunday, October 11. Borderland Brilliance... Oklahoma got progressively better with each match last week on its way to a 3-0 showing in Las Cruces, N.M. and El Paso, Texas. The Sooners opened with a fiveset win at New Mexico State followed by a foursetter vs. Denver and a sweep at UTEP. OU hit.270 for the week. Home Court Advantage... Oklahoma went 11-2 at McCasland Field House in 2014, including a four-match sweep of the NIKE Invitational. During a span of seven NCAA Tournaments since 2007, the Sooners are at their home floor. For the second straight season, Oklahoma set a new program record for average home attendance at 942. The Sooners previous best was 928 in Oklahoma was the last remaining unbeaten team at home in the Big 12 last season at 9-0.

This season, Oklahoma has split its time between the 5-1 and 6-2 offense. Freshman setter Audrey Alford and freshman outside hitter Madison Drescher have been injected into the 6-2 rotation. OU is 6-4 when predominantly running its 6-2 and 0-4 when running its 5-1. Doyle is averaging a team-leading 7.28 assists per set with 1.83 digs per set, while Alford has added 4.69 and NIKE Champs... Oklahoma bounced back from a five-set loss to North Texas (Sept. 5) to claim the title at its home NIKE Invitational with a sweep of Central Arkansas on Saturday. The Sooners, Little Rock and UNT all went 2-1 with OU posting the best set record at 8-3. Ward and Gardiner earned All-Tournament honors. Moving Up the Ladder... Seniors Julia Doyle and Kierra Holst look to continue their climb up the OU record books this season. Doyle is the Big 12 s active leader in career assists with 3,903. She ranks fifth all-time at Oklahoma after passing Rachel Jackson ( ). Holst is first among active Big 12 players with 1,153 career kills. She is currently 12th at Oklahoma after passing Bridget LaPlante ( ) last weekend. Holst now trails Margaret Page ( ) for 11th by 17. Against the Top-5... Prior to defeating No. 5 Texas (10/25/14), Oklahoma s biggest upset was at No. 3 Texas (10/28/08). All-time, the Sooners are 2-24 against top-five teams. Oklahoma is 2-6 against the Longhorns, while 0-14 against Nebraska. The Sooners have never defeated the No. 1 team in the country, having last lost to top-ranked Texas at home (11/2/13). When he was just one-and-a-half years old, Javier Restrepo was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). In August 2008, he had a relapse and received a bone marrow transplant and then received a liver transplant but unfortunately relapsed again. Javi fought the disease like a true champion, nearly beating it on multiple occasions before it ultimately claimed his life on July 31, 2009.

C o n f e r e n C e notes Following the first week of conference play, the league s two ranked teams sport 2-0 records as No. 3 Texas and No. 12 Kansas earned home and road Big 12 wins last week. Dating back to last season, the Longhorns have won 10 straight conference contests while KU has won four in a row. Conference action continues with seven matches on tap this week. Iowa State is tasked with two road matches while Oklahoma will have a pair of home matches on its schedule. The two meet in Norman on Wednesday in a contest scheduled for national telecast on ESPNU. The Longhorns have dropped just three conference matches since 2011 (two of which were at home). Iowa State, which UT will face on Saturday, handed the Horns one of those three losses in 2012 in Ames. The Jayhawks remain undefeated as their 14-0 start is the best in program history and their No. 12 ranking is the highest. KU is one of five teams nationally that has yet to lose this season (Arizona State, Penn State, USC and Washington). KU s perfect non-conference record marks just the seventh time in league history a team has gone undefeated in its non-big 12 schedule. Kansas leads the nation in kills per set and assists per set while setter Ainise Havili continues to top the NCAA individual leaderboard for assists per set. Texas Tech opened conference play with a thrilling 3-2 win over Oklahoma at home last Wednesday. It marked the first victory for TTU over the Sooners since 2005 and snapped a 13-match conference losing streak for TTU. K-State claims the Big 12 s three double-double leaders on the season as Katie Brand (9), Brooke Sassin (9) and Bryna Vogel (6) have the most for the year among all conference players. Texas and Iowa State currently rank in the top 10 nationally in total attendance this season. Kansas, K-State and TCU are in the top 50. The Big 12 is one of two conferences with two teams in the top 10 (Big Ten).
