A total of 60 men s and 62 women s teams from 30 countries have or will be competing in the Henkel Grand Chelem, including Argentina, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Cuba, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Latvia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, Switzerland, the Ukraine and the United States. With 193 players competing in at least one FIVB-sanctioned event, the French had 112 men and 81 women participating in international Beach Volleyball events. France is one of 15 countries to have at least one team in each of the three Olympic Beach Volleyball competitions. Jean-Philippe Jodard and Christian Penigaud posted France's top finishes on the men's SWATCH-FIVB World Tour. The pair had four podium placements and 10 "final four" finishes. Jodard and Penigaud claimed France's only SWATCH gold medal by winning the Spanish Open in 1991 at Almeria. The teams of Guilherm Deulofeu/Ogier Molinier (2003 at Le Lavandou, France) and Kevin Ces/Julien Dugrip (2004 at Corsica) captured FIVB Satellite events for France. One match cost the French a chance to join Australia, Brazil, Germany and the United States among the Olympic elite with at least one men's and one women's team in the Summer Games. Ethel-Julie Arjona and Virginie Kadjo missed a spot in the Athens Games by 12 points. The pair has posted a pair of SWATCH fifth-place finishes (2003 in Milan and 2005 in Montreal) while winning two FIVB Satellite stops the past two seasons in Le Lavandou. Avenue de la Gare 12 P.O. 2 2006 SWATCH-FIVB World Tour 2006 FOR THE FRENCH - The fifth-place finish by Kevin Ces and Fabien Dugrip at the Marseille stop earlier this month was the highest placement for a French men s team on the SWATCH-FIVB World since Ces and Dugrip are currently 23rd on the SWATCH point standings (828) with $19,000 in earnings. Tatiana Barerra/Eva Hamzaoui ($17,900, 616 SWATCH points) and Morgane Faure/Virginie Sarpaux ($11,400, 434) are ranked 33rth and 38th, respectively, to lead the French women on the SWATCH tour.
