The Mean Green is 5-1 at home in 2010, and leads the Sun Belt West Division by two matches over Arkansas State. NT leads the league in digs and assists, and ranks second in opponent hitting percentage and kills. Setter Kayla Saey leads the SBC in assists with per set and Amy Huddleston s 3.61 kills per set ranks second. Scouting The Week Ahead If the season were to end now, Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky would be atop the Sun Belt standings and would earn the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds entering the SBC Tournament. The Blue Raiders are the defending Sun Belt Champions, and have been to the NCAA Tournament in each of the last four years. MTSU has won three straight matches following their lone league loss at the hands of FIU. The Hilltoppers are tied with NT for the longest league win streak at six matches. Junior Tiffany Elmore is coming off a school-record.812 hitting percentage on 16 attacks against ULM on Sunday. Practice Coverage North Texas volleyball practice is open to the media with prior request made to the media relations staff. Practice times are usually scheduled for 3:15-6 p.m. at the Mean Green Volleyball Center located in the Mean Green Village. The last time the Mean Green posted a longer win streak came back in 2002 when NT won a school-record eight consecutive matches. As a matter of fact, only two other teams in the history of NT volleyball have posted win streaks longer than six. North Texas can match that 02 streak with wins over Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky in Denton next weekend. Winning Guaranteed North Texas guaranteed itself a winning season with its win over Troy on Friday, a noteworthy feat in Mean Green history. Since the program began in 1976 only six other NT squads have posted a winning record, and only two in the last 15 years. Single Records Falling The core of the Mean Green lineup has found their way into the NT single season record books in 2010, and more are on the way. Libero Sarah Willey already has 458 digs on the year which ranks fifth in NT history, and could work her way up to third by the end of the regular season. Rachelle Wilson ranks seventh in NT history with a.297 attack percentage, and setter Kayla Saey is seventh with 1,134 assists and could challenge for fifth. Amy Huddleston is 51 kills away from 10th in school history with 354. SBC Attendance Leaders The Mean Green are atop the Sun Belt standings in another category - attendance. The Mean Green went on the road and knocked off Denver and Louisiana-Lafayette in five setters. NT has now won its last three fiveset matches. Determined Defense North Texas held ULL to.098 hitting, NT s 10th opponent this year held under.100. As a matter of fact, four of North Texas last seven opponents have been held under.100 hitting. Soaring Setter Kayla Saey already ranks fourth in NT history with 2,233 assists and could challenge for one of the program s top totals by the end of her career. At her current pace of assists per set, she would need to average approximately 13.5 assists per set for the rest of her career to catch Kristin Sheppard s 4,394 ( ), but has a better chance at Michelle Dressel ( ) at 3,889 in second place. Magic Mark A hitting percentage of.200 is usually the magic mark for North Texas. NT is now since 2004 (including 13-3 in 2010) when it hits above.200, but that record dips to when the Mean Green hits under.200. Stellar Starters Setting the tone early is important for the Mean Green. North Texas is since 2006 (including 12-4 in 2010) when it wins the first game of a match. However, that record falls to when its opponent takes set one. NFL Dads On The Roster NT has two players on it roster whose fathers had standout NFL careers. Brittani Youman is the daughter of three-time NFL Pro Bowl running back Larry Centers. Lacy Reasons, is the daughter of Gary Reasons, a two-time Super Bowl champion as a starter for the New York Giants.

Ken is a coach that is well versed in his sport, has an excellent track record in recruiting and great recommendations from not only the coaches that he worked with, but also those he coached against, said Villarreal. His energy, preparation and his connections to the Texas volleyball recruiting process make him a great fit. Murczek spent the last two seasons at Kansas, and despite playing 10 teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2009, the Jayhawks enjoyed their winningest campaign since 2004 (16-14), and even knocked off No. 21 Baylor. Their two-match sweep of in-state rival Kansas State was the program s first since A coach with academics at heart, Murczek had two players named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District squad and a league-best eight Academic All-Big XII honorees in 2009 alone. First and foremost, I d like to thank Rick Villarreal for the opportunity to lead this team, said Murczek. I m excited about the future of this program, and I m eager to get to campus to get to know the studentathletes and to put our plans for the spring in place. Prior to his arrival at Kansas, Murczek spent a year at Virginia where he helped the Cavaliers pile up 18 wins and a fourth place finish in the ACC. On top of his administrative and recruiting duties, he was responsible for training the outside hitters, and helped develop Sarah Kirkwood into a two-time AVCA All-American - a first in Virginia volleyball history. Murczek also spent time at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., where he assisted with skill development and on-court training of the United States Women s National Volleyball Team. From , Murczek served as an assistant at Western Michigan, and was a volunteer assistant at Purdue in Over the two-year span at Western Michigan, Murczek helped guide six all-conference players and aided in the Broncos receiving the highest honorable mention award for the 2006 recruiting class according to prepvolleyball.com. In addition, Murczek was integral in the development of senior setter Jenifer Sulewski, who broke the school record for single-season assists. In his stint at Purdue, he helped the Boilermakers to their first NCAA Tournament berth since 1990 and firstround upset over nationally-ranked host Colorado State. A successful player at all levels, Murczek began his volleyball career at Marist High School in Chicago where he became an all-state selection in Murczek played collegiately at San Diego State, where he led his team to a top 15 ranking, and finished fifth in the country in digs per game. He then went on to the University of Arizona where his club volleyball team won back-to-back national championships. After college, Murczek played four seasons of professional indoor volleyball in Gelterkinden, Switzerland; Biendenkopf, Germany; Niort, France and Bandung, Indonesia. He has also competed in several beach volleyball tournaments during the summer months throughout the United States. Murczek earned his B.S. in kinesiology from San Diego State University in 1998 before going on to earn a master s in teaching and teacher education from the University of Arizona in Murczek also holds a secondary education teaching credential in physical education and science from the state of Indiana, and an M.S. in sport management from Western Michigan University (2007). Murczek and his wife, Jennifer, married in August 2007.
