2 The Siemens range of traffic signal poles meet the requirements of the Construction Products Regulations and offer poles from 2m to 8m in a variety of forms, suitable for use with retention sockets and also in planted root applications. Every pole is CE marked and is supplied with strength and material information as required by BS EN Full range of pole types and lengths Steel and Aluminium versions Standard and lowlevel access versions Suitable for use with retention sockets and planted root applications Compliant with BS EN and CE marked Excel based pole selection tools to aid intersection design Compliant with the Construction Products Regulations The Siemens pole range is fully compliant with Construction Products Regulations, which applies to traffic signals and signposts. Supported by extensive wind tunnel testing undertaken by Siemens, to evaluate the real loads experienced by traffic signals poles when fully equipped, each pole has been characterised to ensure it is not overloaded either during initial installation or as part of future junction improvements. 2 In compliance with the regulations each pole has also been independently verified, is individually CE marked and carries a unique specification label confirming key features, including construction material, corrosion resistance and strength characteristics. Full range of types lengths and materials Supports retention socket and planted root installation A full range of pole types and lengths are supported within the standard range of poles supplied by Siemens. These include straight poles, formed poles (typically used at pedestrian crossings), belled poles and low level access types, which maintain a standard 114mm mounting diameter. The pole range has been specifically designed to ensure that signal head mounting heights remain constant irrespective of the type of planting method used. Poles are available for use with NAL retention sockets and also where direct planting into a suitable concrete foundation is required. Different methods can be used across a single site if necessary and the signals will always be presented to drivers and pedestrians at the same height above ground level. The range also supports a variety of pole colours including, black, grey or galvanised finish. Other colours are able to be supported if required for specific schemes, subject to minimum order quantities. Poles are available in steel and aluminium. The aluminium pole types offer improved corrosion resistance, longer life and are up to 50% lighter than the equivalent steel poles, improving health and safety by considerably easing manual handling tasks. Where formed poles are used, these raise the signal height above that normally used in straight pole applications, to ensure that the required, as defined in LTN 1/98, is maintained. The Siemens pole range also includes longer straight poles which match the signal head mounting heights presented by the formed poles, for use with both planted roots and retention socket. Wide range of signal mounting brackets A wide range of standard steel mounting brackets are provided, catering for single, two, three and four aspect signals. These are suitable for most typical applications. Where extra corrosion resistance is desirable, for example in areas where environmental conditions are particularly harsh, stainless steel brackets are available as an alternative. These are provided with special bracket to pole mounting kits which include insulators to avoid problems which might occur due to galvanic corrosion caused by the use of dissimilar metals. 3

To help with pole selection and verification two excel based tools and a detailed handbook are available for the pole range, which are available from the Siemens website. Pole part numbers are constructed by using the basic part number (for example 667/2/52711/ETC) and replacing the /ETC with the pole variant from the table for the specific pole required. The Pole Selection Tool: This allows basic requirements for poles to be entered, length, material, form etc...and the tool will suggest the pole that most closely matches the requirements and will give full details of the pole including its Siemens part number. 4 Dacrylate Silver (RAL9006) Pole Pole Variant 667/2/52711/ETC The Pole Handbook: This provides full details of the pole range as well as important information regarding equipment which can be mounted on the poles, maximum load configurations and also how to safely and reliably shorten poles if this is needed on a specific site basis.
