HARTLEY WINTNEY FC HISTORY Hartley Wintney Football Club History Hartley Wintney Football Club was founded in the North Hampshire village of Hartley Wintney in 1897 and played in an area adjacent to the village's golf and cricket clubs, the facilities not quite being up to today's standard, with only a horse trough or the pond to remove the heavy mud from a sub-standard pitch. The Club's nickname of 'The Row' comes from 'Hartley Row', a former hamlet within Hartley Wintney. In 1953, the club moved to its present ground in Green Lane, known as 'The Memorial Ground'. A pavilion was erected and the team played in the Basingstoke League and, later, in the Aldershot League. In 1973, an influx of players under new manager Glynn Howell put the club firmly on the local football map. In his six year reign, the team won the Aldershot Senior League three times in succession, and the Aldershot Senior Cup. After several seasons in the Aldershot Senior League, Hartley were admitted to the Combined Counties League (previously Surrey Senior League). After the first couple of seasons and two changes of management, the club appointed Ian Bedford, and once again an influx of senior players brought Hartley success. Within his three years in management, they gained trophies including the League Title ( ) and Runners Up ( ), Aldershot Senior Cup Winners ( ), and George Allen Cup Winners ( ). They were also Runners Up in the League Cup ( ) and Aldershot Senior Cup ( ). The club gained promotion from Division One of the Combined Counties League in under manager Mike Scott, but began poorly and, despite a change of management, the season ended in relegation by a narrow margin. Under the management team of Pete Gray and John Condon, the first team rallied in 09-10, finishing 5th in CCL Div. 1, and 7th in season under manager Louis King after Pete Gray had stepped down for family reasons. The season under manager Neville Roach, Assistant Mick Wollen and Coach Scott Tarr was a notable one for the club as they again achieved promotion to the Combined Counties League Premier Division, as well as having a fine FA Cup run that took them to the Third Qualifying Round. However, end-of-season celebrations were dampened when the coaching staff left to join Thatcham Town. The entire squad bar two players departed, so new manager Dave Tuttle was faced with the task of rebuilding a squad competitive enough for the CCL Premier. A string of poor results led to a second change in management in less than 4 months, with 24 year-old ex-hartley player, Ben Dillon, given his first managerial position already deep into the season. Once again there was an almost total outflow of players from Tuttle's squad, and Ben, with assistants Jason Minton and Joe Lawler, set about rebuilding the squad, but by this time with Hartley set well adrift at the bottom of the table. The introduction of a talented group of players restored the spirit around the club, and in what became known as the club's 'Great Escape' season, Hartley Wintney's place in the CCL Premier was secured against all the odds after a truly remarkable second half of the season.

HARTLEY WINTNEY FC HISTORY Ben further strengthened the squad for , with Steve Saunders and player/coach Dan Brownlie brought in to the coaching setup alongside Jason and Joe. The season started well and there were notable wins in the FA Cup on a run that took the club to the 4th Qualifying Round for the first time in its history. The cup run took its toll on league form but the club finished a creditable 7th in the Premier Division. After a comfortable 9th place finish in , Ben Dillon stepped down and Dan Brownlie and Anthony Millerick were appointed Joint First Team Managers, alongside coaches Joe Lawler and Luke Tuffs. With strong additions to the playing squad, it was an eventful season. After a memorable 1-0 win away at Southern League Merthyr Town in the 2nd Qualifying Round of the FA Cup, Hartley took Conference South Eastbourne Borough to the wire, losing out to an injury time winner. In the FA Vase, a longstanding club record was broken by reaching the 5th Round Proper played in front of a sell-out 1,300 at Green Lane against the eventual finalists, Hereford FC. And despite the cup commitments, the club topped the CCL Premier Division for most of the season and claimed the league title. Promotion, however, was denied due to ground grading issues. Faced with huge challenges on and off the pitch - to achieve back-to-back title wins and put in place the necessary ground improvements to take advantage of any second opportunity for promotion - the season was perhaps the club's best yet, topping the Combined Counties League Premier Division for the entire season, reaching the semi-finals of the Hampshire senior county cup and the final of the Aldershot Senior Cup, and securing the required ground grading to allow the club to take its place in The Evo-Stik (Southern) League South; the first time in its history that the club has made it to Step 4 of the English football pyramid. To top off a wonderful season, our young Youth team won the Hampshire FA Youth Midweek Floodlit Cup, winning on penalties against a strong Aldershot Town U18. Hartley Wintney FC has come a long way, from 'village side' in every sense of the term, to today's 7 days a week modern football club. The football club has established a clear line of progression for young players with the establishment of an U18 Youth setup, currently playing in the Allied Counties Youth League, a Reserve team playing in the Suburban League, and an A Team playing in the Aldershot & District Football League. 4 WELCOME TO HARTLEY WINTNEY FC EVO STIK SOUTH, EAST DIVISION Hartley Wintney v Arlesey Town Kick Off: 3.00pm Saturday 17 th February 2018 Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen and welcome to the Memorial Ground Hartley Wintney for this Evo-Stik South, East Division league clash against Arlesey Town. To all their players, officials and supporters we extend a warm welcome and hope you enjoy your short stay with us here at Hartley Wintney. Our visitors are currently 22 nd in the league with 8 points from 29 games. Arlesey will doubtless be scrapping for every point as they look to improve their points tally. This will not be an easy fixture for the Row. One look at the result against table topping Rushden & Diamonds will show that they were only beaten by a second half penalty. Arlesey s current form is as follows; 06 Jan H FLEET TOWN drew Jan a Northwood lost Jan H HAYES & YEADING lost Jan a Chalfont St Peter lost Feb a Bedford Town lost Feb H RUSHDEN & D lost 2-1 Well it has been a while since the last programme (Egham on 3 rd Feb). The Egham game was memorable for a glut of goals in a 7-1 victory, see report later in the programme. We were also very lucky that day to have Rotherham born Peter Aucterlonie on tannoy duties. I m not sure how true the rumour is but the whispers suggest he is a half-brother to the famous Rotherham born Chuckle Brothers. Not something Peter will admit to I m sure but perhaps a good explanation for the cultured Home Counties accent! On Sunday the 1st team travelled to Dunstable for a 1pm kick off against fellow play off hopefuls AFC Dunstable. A close encounter was decided by Captain Dean Stow with a stunning free kick which rattled in off the underside of the crossbar. A hard earned victory indeed with a good team performance. I have to say there was also a fantastic turn out of Hartley fans on what was a bitterly cold day. Traffic conditions were horrendous both ways I believe. Thank you all for the support it is appreciated. Please get behind the boys again today and cheer them on to 3 points.

The Evo-Stik League South East got off lightly as far as the weather was concerned on Saturday, with only the games at Northwood and Thame United falling foul of waterlogged pitches. AFC Rushden & Diamonds maintained their three-point advantage at the summit after a hard-fought 2-1 win at bottom side Arlesey Town. Joel Gyasi gave Diamonds the lead 5 minutes before the break. But the basement club levelled things through Henry Musay 7 minutes into the second half. But a Ben Farrell penalty just past the hour-mark secured victory for the visitors, who are now sixteen league matches unbeaten. Beaconsfield Town maintained their title challenge with another tougher-thananticipated 3-2 win at second-bottom Barton Rovers. Rovers led through Sam Oyeniran`s 38th minute opener which Callum Webb cancelled out 5 minutes later. Five minutes after half-time, Tre Mitford put the visitors ahead, only for Andrew Phillips to pull last season`s play-off finalists back on level terms 4 minutes later. Bajram Pashaj won it for Beaconsfield 18 minutes from time. EVO-STIK South, East Round-Up Duncan Culley from the penalty spot and Manny Duku giving them a 2-0 interval lead, and Scott Donnelly and Ismael Ehui adding two more in the second half. Chalfont`s seven-game unbeaten run came to an end at home to Moneyfields, who are eighth but six points adrift of the play-off spots now. Remmel Clarke gave the Saints the boost of an early 6th minute lead, but they couldn`t capitalise, and a Dan Wooden brace in the 56th and 62nd minutes won it for the Hampshire side. Cambridge City triumphed 2-1 at the Runnymede Stadium against Egham Town, with James Hall and Jordan Williams scoring for City within 2 minutes of each other in the opening half, and Brendan Matthew replying on the hour-mark. Elsewhere, Sonny French scored the only goal of the game right on half-time to seal Aylesbury United`s win at Calthorpe Park against Fleet Town, while Luke Heneghan bagged a brace in a minute midway through the second half in Kempston Rovers` 2-1 win against Marlow at Hillgrounds Junaid Bell having given the visitors a 28th minute lead. The gap between the top two and the playoff places is five points, with AFC Dunstable, who didn`t play on Saturday, Hayes & Yeading United, Chalfont St Peter and Cambridge City currently occupying the other top six spots. Hayes & Yeading were comfortable 4-0 home winners over Bedford Town, with The game between Aylesbury FC and Ashford Town (Middx) finished 2-2 in which Brian Haule twice gave the Moles the lead which Jack Beadle and Samad Kazi cancelled out. Aylesbury were reduced to tenmen just on the half-time break when Ty Deacon appeared to throw an Ashford player to the ground.

TUFFS TALKING Good afternoon and welcome to the players and supporters of Arlesey Town FC. Although Arlesey are having a difficult season they are only losing games by the single goal here and there and indeed ran league leaders Rushden & Diamonds very close last week. With this in mind we know it ll be another very tough game and we are not going to take anything for granted, they are in a Relegation battle and will be very much fighting to pick up points at every possible chance. Despite some very tough games we have continued to pick up points and are right in and amongst it at the top end of the table. I was on an FA course so couldn t make Sunday s 1-0 victory over AFC Dunstable but the reports I heard and read suggested a very hard fought victory in difficult conditions! A win on Tuesday night would have seen us go third but we were beaten by the weather and our local derby with Fleet will be fought another day. As for the Youth team, well it s been frustrating as the weather has brought our momentum to a halt. I think it s just one defeat in 11 for the Youth and we have got ourselves at the right end of the table. However other fixtures have somehow been on when ours haven t and we now find ourselves 6 points behind 2nd placed Bracknell with 4 games in hand and 8 points off leaders Binfield with 1 game in hand. We play Binfield away on Thursday night! Hope you enjoy the game today and see you in the bar after! Tuffs

ONE SIDE OF THE DUGOUT Good afternoon! Welcome back to Our House. You hopefully would have noticed that I haven't been around the club for a couple of weeks as I have been away in Malawi on a charity project. The boys have continued the winning form and kept it going upon my return with a determined win against Dunstable. There was quite a bit of hype around the Dunstable game, some of that from the league generally but mainly on Dunstable's part as they were billing it as the big 'six pointer'. Whilst we were aware that the result had an importance, we avoided getting sucked into making it more of an occasion than it actually was. It was a straight up battle between two good attacking sides in some very difficult conditions. Whilst it was never spectacular, the first half gave me a lot of confidence going into the second. I said to Millers just before kick off that going into halftime at 0-0 would be a good result as we'd win the second half. Battling against the wind and their physical game, we could have found ourselves with our tin hats on in the trenches. Credit to the boys, whilst Dunstable had the ball in our final third for quite a large proportion of the opening exchanges, I'm not sure Struds had to make a save. We actually probably had the better chances in the first half, Eagle and Baxter both going close. Arguably we should have been 3-0 up at half time, but under the conditions we had to be happy going in at 0-0. We played some nice stuff in the second half, more than we were expecting if I'm honest as the swirling inconsistent winds were playing havoc with the ball. Stow used that to his advantage having gone close with a few attempts at goal from dead ball situations and it was one of those, a glorious strike, which finally found the back of the net. A clean strike of the ball into the top right hand corner. We know Stow has got that in his locker, in fact he has come close on a number of occasions with other players having profited from keepers' drop-downs. It was good to keep a clean sheet against a relatively free scoring side and documented as one of the better strike forces in the league. Jack Ball and Liam Eagle have created a good understanding and compliment each other well. With Noakes' long awaited return and Dec getting fitter every day, we have good options back there. We of course have Stow who is capable of playing anywhere on the pitch and with a real impact too - not just 'doing a job', he can play in each role as if he's a specialist, a rare quality. We're pleased to have signed Ty Smith - a name I've heard around the place for quite some time - particularly from Noakes who has always sung his praises. It's taken nearly three years to get him in an orange shirt and we are sure he is going to enjoy his time with us. It again adds a depth to a position where we have great quality but low numbers. It's good to be back at Hartley - I'm looking forward to today's game against a side that have not only had improved results but improved performances. There is never a guarantee of points in any game in this league and today is no different. We are fully aware that we have to be at it and everyone has to be working hard to get the job done. Enjoy the game! db

Welcome to everybody connected to Arlesey Town FC, we hope you enjoy your visit to Hartley and we wish you a safe return journey. Arlesey visit us here today after running the leaders Rushden close this time last week. Despite their league position, the margins in which they are losing has narrowed so anyone thinking this is a foregone conclusion should think again, no game of football at this time of year is a banker! With 15 games to go, teams at all ends of the spectrum will be fighting hard for their relevant goal, survival, promotion or simply pride...no game will easy in our run-in! We have shown some great form since the turn of the year and long may that continue. Albeit Egham were/are suffering from some really poor form, to hit 7 against them on a heavy wicket speaks volumes about this set of players. Never content to sit back and have a rest, we drove on and played some wonderful stuff. Coming up into this league, we'd have never believed it if we were told that we would be scoring 4 or more goals at multiple points throughout the season. The performance at AFC Dunstable showed a different set of characteristics. In horrible conditions and a terrible pitch, we stood tall and firm against a Dunstable team looking to un-nerve us at every opportunity. Facing a strong wind, it was us who had the better chances in a tight first half and once we went ahead on 66 MILLERS MUSINGS minutes, we were very dogged and determined in closing the game out. A massive 3 points against a rival for promotion. There is a real togetherness in the camp at the moment which cannot be manufactured, its something that has to happen organically. We, the management are really happy with the squad at the moment, with a number of players injured, suspended or away our league form has not suffered in the slightest. The players who have come in recently have been superb, Jack Ball has settled in really well at CB, James King has done well after being patient and its great to see Dec Shuttleworth return in such form. We have signed Ty Smith who comes with a real pedigree and bags of experience so the squad is looking very healthy. Once some of the longer term injuries return, Nick Hutchings, Luke Perkins, Ian Jones and Steve Noakes, there will be real competition in the squad. A number of existing players have hit great form so we are looking good for a real push at this. We will be looking for another decent performance today but most importantly, another big 3 points on the board and another game closer to our target. Enjoy the game UTR

WHAT THE PAPERS MILLERICK S SAID: MUSIINGS EGHAM TOWN Hartley Wintney cemented their place in the play-off zone with a comprehensive win over an out-of-sorts Egham Town team. The Row started at high tempo and in two minutes could have gone ahead. A long ball forward was chased by Jake Baxter. The Sarnies 'keeper, Patrick Ohman, slipped as he came out and the ball went behind him. Baxter s effort from a difficult angle went along the goal line and out. Hartley midfield debutant, Ty Smith, tried his luck from the edge of the box on 4 minutes but Ohman brought out a good stop. The Row continued to knock at the door and on 8 minutes a long throw found the head of Jack Ball before finding its way to Paul Hodges; he set up Dean Stow who fired over. The pressure finally told a minute later when a long throw from Adam Everiss saw a Liam Eagle header saved by Ohman, only for Jake Baxter to confidently fire home from close range (1-0). On 13 minutes, Steven Duff was unlucky to see a shot hit a defender and go wide after a scramble in the goalmouth. From the resultant corner, Liam Eagle rose highest and scored the Row s second goal (2-0). Two minutes later Hartley added a third. Steven Duff made good progress down the left and his well struck cross-come-shot sailed high into the net at the back post (3-0). Three minutes later it was almost four as Dean Stow set up Josh Webb, but his 20 yard shot was parried by Ohman. A minute later Egham had their first effort on goal and reduced the arrears. Good interplay allowed Jordan Fredericks to get in behind the Row defence and his shot was saved by the feet of Freddie Gee, only to see Brendan Mathew following up to score (3-1). On 23 minutes a free kick from Josh Webb found Jack Ball, whose effort was saved by Ohman. Buoyed by their goal, the Sarnies responded, and on 26 minutes a corner on the right from Joel Jacobs was headed over at close range by Rhys Paul. The visitors had a bright spell but were unable to test Gee, despite some good approach work usually involving Brendan Mathew. On 33 minutes the Row restored a three goal advantage. Steven Duff cut in from the left and tried his luck from 25 yards, and his well struck low shot deceived Ohman and finished up in the net (4-1). On the stroke of half time, a Josh Webb shot saw Ohman parry away to the right; Jake Baxter cleverly set up Paul Hodges who was unlucky to see his shot blocked. HALF TIME: HARTLEY WINTNEY 4 EGHAM TOWN 1 Hartley could have increased the lead on 49 minutes when good interplay between Stow and Hodges gave Jake Baxter a chance. However, the well placed striker's attempted acrobatic kick did not come off. But the fifth goal - and Baxter's second - was delayed by just two minutes when good play down the right by right-back James King, and Paul Hodges, saw the ball eventually arrive at Jake Baxter. He scored high into the corner of the net with a fine shot from the corner of the 18 yard box (5-1). On 65 minutes the Row struck again when a clever pass from Jake Baxter set Paul Hodges in at close range. The striker s effort hit the post but Adam Everiss, following up, scored from close range (6-1). Egham rallied and had a good spell. On 68 minutes Mathew set up Fredericks, who saw his effort well saved by Gee.

WHAT THE PAPERS SAID : EGHAM TOWN Then on 75 minutes, Fredericks had an effort which looked goal bound and was unlucky to see it hit Mathew and go wide. At the other end, Paul Hodges had an effort which Ohman saved comfortably. The Sarnies resumed on the offensive and Mathew set up Lauric Diakiesse, who brought out a good save from Gee. Five minutes from time, Josh Baines created a chance for himself and his effort saw Freddie Gee well positioned to save. In added time Hartley added a seventh goal. Josh Webb found Marc Vockins on the right. A very measured cross found the head of Paul Hodges and his well directed AND THE FANS SAID It has been a pretty good seven days for the lads with three victories on the trot against three teams of different ability and calibre moving us up into the giddy heights of fourth in the league. None of us here at Hartley thought at the beginning of the season that by February this could be achievable or even likely but it shows how hard the boys and the management have worked to create this ongoing saga. The only downside is that you could tell when the lads came off the pitch they were all absolutely shattered having had to play on three heavy pitches in a week which obviously saps their strength and hence causing fatigue and injuries especially for a small squad such as ours. But at least they now have a clear week to get their energy levels up again before the very important game next Sunday (wow Sunday football, it used to be against pub sides and the odd pint or two or three) against high-flying Dunstable (and this will show how far we have come especially in terms of consistency) and hopefully we will not be intimidated or pressurised too much by them and we can effort found the corner of the net (7-1). Following the previous week's refereeing issues, a word of praise must go to referee Tristan Greaves and his assistants, Charlie Bullock and Ross Murphy, who all did so well you hardly knew they were there. It is refreshing to see officials like this, who allow the game to flow and gain the respect of the players; this ensures that there is minimal chance of them becoming the centre of attention. [D Graham] FULL TIME: HARTLEY WINTNEY 7 EGHAM TOWN 1 Attendance: 124 keep the bandwagon rolling. Thanks lads, a fantastic week. UP THE ROW:VINTY Was an amazing match yesterday, scoring 7 twice in a season is remarkable. The Beconsfield game was a blip, as I had hoped. We did everything we didn't do in that game, keep possession, and pick up loose balls in midfield.ty was a revelation, a tireless display, and some excellent distribution, Frenchey has some compertition. We played well all round the park. The defence was solid when called on and of course it helped with a couple of flukes, sorry well aimed shots from Duffs. Hodges battled on despite being a target of a few well placed kicks. The guys deserve a week off to recover, and hopefully we will get some dry weather. I am looking forward to going away, just sad that it is on a Sunday and the pressure this must put on players with families. Without getting carried away is the league playoffs the standard format, and is the ground an issue that would may the result academic? Rob.b

Arlesey Town Football Club celebrated their centenary in 1991, having been formed by a group of local people before the turn of the last century. Before the Second World War, Soccer was played on a localised basis, and in common with many clubs in the area, Arlesey competed in the flourishing Biggleswade & District League and entered the Biggleswade Knock-out Cup. During the 1920's, the club joined the Bedfordshire County League - which was later to become the South Midlands League. Arlesey originally played at 'The Bury' before moving to their former home, 'Lamb Meadow.' The ground took its name from 'The Lamb,' a former Public House situated near the site which, for many years acted as the club's headquarters and changing rooms. The birth of the modern era is owed to the foresight of officials of the late 1940's and early 1950's. They purchased the premises and became landlords for the princely sum of just 500 in Four years later, in 1952, an adjoining area was bought and this is where the clubhouse used to stand. The story goes that two Committee members missed their train to Kings Cross and with time to kill, saw a notice in a local Estate Agent's window for a forthcoming auction of the land. They returned the following week and purchased the said land for the clubhouse. The area lay unused for a number of years until the arrival of 'Biggs Wall' who negotiated with the club to build temporary offices and canteen facilities - which the Football Club then bought back, turning them into what was then, the clubhouse. The first competitive match under floodlights was played in January 1981 against the now defunct Pirton FC and two months later the Blues played host ARLESEY MILLERICK S TOWN HISTORY MUSIINGS to Luton Town for the official opening in front of over 1,000 spectators. Playing fortunes have fluctuated since the war and season saw the Blues finish as runners-up to Bletchley Town in the S.M.L. Premier Division. The following season the 1st XI lifted the championship crown and the second string were crowned S.M.L. Division Two champions with the Youth team winning three trophies. The season began North Beds Charity Cup final win over Biggleswade Town (the match was held over from the previous season), and ended with a second successive championship win, Arlesey amassing S.M.L. record 52 points. In February 1954, the developing Arlesey Town Colts, local players, reached the 4th round of the F.A. Youth Cup and were drawn away to Portsmouth. The 1950's had seen the Blues compete in the South Midlands and Parthenon Leagues. Season saw one of Arlesey's favourite sons in charge of team affairs; Roland Legate, (who played football professionally for Luton Town) took the helm as player-manager and during his four-year spell, he took the Blues to a league runners-up spot. The start of the season saw Legate return as manager and the trophies came with him, 3 Hinchingbrooke Cup successes, one Beds Senior Cup, the Biggleswade K.O Cup twice and the South Midlands League Challenge Trophy once. Supporting the Executive Committee's wish to cross the pyramid to the United Counties League. With two indifferent terms in the U.C.L., Arlesey lifted the Premier Division crown in season

ARLESEY TOWN HISTORY During the late 1980 s the Blues won the United Counties League, Premier Division Cup and a Beds Premier Cup final appearance against Luton Town. During the 1991 centenary year in the blues lifted the South Midlands Floodlight Cup with a fine victory over fellow U.C.L. side Irthlingborough Diamonds, who went on to become Rushden & Diamonds in the football league. With the rising cost of UCL travel and the attraction of more 'local derbies' in it was decided to resign from the United Counties League and cross to the familiar surroundings of the South Midlands League. A successful first year campaign saw the Blues finish in third place and in their second season finished sixth in the league and lifted the Premier Division Cup. The club also gained national recognition following a marvellous run in the FA Vase to the quarterfinals, with victories Flackwell Heath 2-0, Ware 1-0, Haverhill Rovers 2-1, Eastwood Hanley 2-1, Falmouth Town 5-3, and Oadby Town 2-1. In the quarterfinal the blues faced old U.C.L. foes Boston in a thrilling game and lost out to an injury time winner. With changes to support and playing staff for 1994/5 the results exceeded expectations. The South Midlands League championship was won with a record 107 points, but even this memorable feat was eclipsed when Arlesey Town defeated Oxford City at Wembley Stadium in front of over 13,000 spectators to lift the F.A. Carlsberg Challenge Vase on May 13, On their way to the greatest day in the club's history, the Blues had beaten Hoddesdon 2-0, a vengeful 2-1 victory at Boston, a 2-0 win at Barnstaple, a 1-0 home win over the holders Diss Town and a 3-0 quarter-final demolition of Cammel Laird before facing U.C.L. side Raunds Town in a two-legged semi-final. The first leg, played at Raunds, saw Arlesey beaten out of sight by a score of 3-0 and very few pundits gave them much chance of overturning the deficit in the return match the following week at Lamb Meadow. Three nil at 90 minutes and 5-0 after extra-time, including a penalty save by Arlesey 'keeper Steve Young meant that the Blues were off to grace the most hallowed of turf! Arlesey Town's Wembley side that day were:- S. Young, N. Cardines, G. Bambrick, P. Palma, C. Hull, P. Gonsalves, S. Gyalog, G. Cox, N. Kane, R. O'Keefe and G. Marshall. Subs: A. Ward & T. Nicholls. The Vase travelled home to Bedfordshire for the first time. In 1995/5 season saw the Blues crash out of the Vase at the first hurdle but the South Midlands League Championship Crown was retained. The season culminated in three Cup finals for the club; the 1st XI were runners-up to Ely City in the Hinchingbrooke Cup, the Under 16 Youth side were beaten East Anglian Youth Cup finalists while Peter Milton's Reserve side lifted the S.M.L. Reserve Challenge Trophy. After finishing in third place the 1996/7 campaign ended with the Blues relinquishing the S.M.L. title. However the Lamb Meadow trophy cabinet remained in a healthy position as they lifted the Beds Senior Cup (the first time since 1979) and also lifted the Hinchingbrooke Cup (last won in 1982).

May 1997 saw Robbie O'Keefe tender his resignation, moving on to a higher grade of football with Baldock Town. In just three seasons Arlesey Town had achieved national recognition with F.A. Vase success and two league championships, a County Senior Cup victory and a Hinchingbrooke Cup triumph. For season team were unable to keep pace and their championship aspirations soon evaporated. An FA Vase 3rd round exit occurred in Cornwall's Porthleven in December and the Blues' last chance of picking up any silverware disappeared at the hands of arch rivals Stotfold who loosened Arlesey's grip on the Hinchingbrooke Cup with a 2-0 semi-final victory. After a lengthy campaign the club finally received planning permission for a new ground just a few hundred yards along Hitchin Road. After a development project the club moved in on April 30th, 1999 and are now able to boast some of the finest facilities in the area with a purpose built Members Bar, multi-purpose Function & Conference Suite, all-seater stand and training pitch. During the 1998/99 close season, Arlesey Town appointed Gary Pilsworth as manager however, things didn't work out and after 16 matches with the club rooted at the bottom of the league table, the management team replaced him with Nicky Ironton who had gained a wealth of experience having been at QPR, Barnet, Maidstone, Enfield, Barking and Baldock Town. Nicky was a former England semi-professional international. Nicky brought as his assistant former team-mate Billy Harrigan and together with Russell Ball, their objective was to avoid relegation and build a side capable of attaining promotion to the Ryman Isthmian League the following season. The Blues ended the season without ARLESEY MILLERICK S TOWN HISTORY MUSIINGS silverware however, but a fantastic run from the end of January signalled the club's intents. Manager Nicky Ironton had built a side more than capable of attaining Arlesey's aim of playing a higher grade of football and the Blues looked forward to season with optimism. The first season at the new Hitchin Road ground began with nine straight Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division victories as Ironton's men stormed to the top of the table. A mid season blip in form threatened the side's hard work but having secured the services of coach Alan Dawson, the Blues went from strength to strength and went on to lift their fifth South Midlands League Championship. A run in of eight consecutive victories culminated in a 2-0 triumph at Milton Keynes City on Thursday 4th May meant the Blues secured the championship. With their ground grading 'Arlesey Town were promoted to the Ryman Isthmian League Division Three. The sale of Dave Kitson to Nationwide Football League Club Cambridge United halfway through the season, did little to upset their cause indeed, the signing of ex Stevenage Boro' striker Neil Trebble boosted their season. A prolific striker, Trebble netted an amazing 18 goals from 17 starts and one wonders just how many he would have scored had he been with the Blues at the start of the season. A magnificent first season in the Ryman League, saw the club lose just two league matches (one at home and one away) as they raced away to win the Third Division Championship scoring an Isthmian League record of 138 goals and the Blues also gained the record of being the first club to attain a goal difference in the league's 96 year history.

ARLESEY TOWN HISTORY During 2002 season Chairman Bryan Ellis fulfilled his promise to elevate the club to another level following a successful application to the 'Football Stadia Improvement Fund.' A six-figure grant enabled the club to meet the league's ground-grading criteria that gave the Blues a new covered stand for 600 spectators, a new open terrace and two new turnstiles. On the pitch, Arlesey boss Nicky Ironton led his side to the last 16 of the FA Carlsberg Vase, secured a highly creditable final Division Two fourth place and lifted the Beds Premier Cup for the first time since The 2002/2003 season was a consolidation for the rapid successes of the previous years and the highlight was an extended run in the FA Cup winning 4 away matches in reaching the fourth qualifying round. The reward was yet another away fixture, this time at Nationwide Conference club, Hereford United. Arlesey Town represented the Ryman League Division One north and after going behind to a sixth minute 'soft' goal, they more than matched their opponents in all departments, even having a goal disallowed. It was such a gallant performance that at the end of the tie, the relieved Hereford fans gave their guests a standing ovation. At the end of the 2002/3 Arlesey's Hitchin Road ground hosted two EUFA Ladies qualifying fixtures including England versus Spain. It was seen as a just reward for all the hard work that had been done at the Club by many of its members in recent years. Season 2003/2004 saw Arlesey Town yet again in the national limelight following a fantastic run to the last 16 of the FA Trophy defeating on the way, both after away draws Hayes FC from the Ryman Premier Division and Dagenham & Redbridge FC from the Nationwide Conference league. This resulted in an away game with Exeter City FC who had just been relegated from the football league. Although losing the game the blues gained respect with an outstanding performance. The season ended with Arlesey Town failing to gain promotion to the new premier structure on goal difference but small consolation was gained when the Blues lifted the Bedfordshire Senior Cup after defeating fellow Ryman League club outfit Leighton Town at Hitchin Road in May. In season (2004/05) Arlesey Town played in the Southern League Division One East and after the successful six-year reign of Nick Ironton it was a consolidation period. Because of the club s success, visibility and recognition most of the players moved to play in the Conference League and premier league. After an indifferent start to the season Nicky Ironton decided to hand over the manager s position to Jon Taylor, whom he had dealings with in the past. Jon imported a new team of players during November with the single objective of maintaining the club s status within the Southern League Division 1. This was achieved with a mid-table position and during that close season Jon added more players with a wealth of football league and senior club experience. The season (2005/06) Arlesey Town again played in the Southern League Division One East with Jon Taylor and Scot Houghton in charge. With an exciting start 9 wins out of 10 culminating in destroying Boreham Wood s unbeaten run 3 0 at their home fortress. In both the FA Cup and Trophy there were unfortunate fixtures at Premier

The 2006/2007 seasons saw Arlesey Town reverting to the Ryman Isthmian Football league along with many of last season s opponents also being reassigned. Again during the close season Jon Taylor had added players with a wealth of football league and senior club experience for the next season s campaign we were looking to climb the non-league structure. Darren Hay took on the team management during the early stages of 2006/2007 season, when Jon left for personal reasons, with Mike Brooks as the assistant manager and coach and they put together a very young and eager team for the coming 2007 campaign. This included both experienced senior players supporting by young players who broke into the first team towards then end of the previous season. During the season there were several disruptions and there were three chairmen and three managers in succession which disrupted the development of the team because of the club management changes. Arlesey Town finished in the bottom half of the Ryman league with Matt Corbould as the manager and a very young side. Season 2008/2009 saw Arlesey Town reverting to the BGB Southern League with the consequence of substantial extra travelling miles and additional costs. Because of the league restructure Matt had to put together a totally different team comprising of a number of young players. As a result of Arlesey Town successful cup runs there were three players who were playing professional football for the 2008 season with Dave Kitson, was is a main A.T.F.C. sponsor, and who moved from Reading to newly promoted Stoke City to remain in the Premiership, Craig Machail- ARLESEY MILLERICK S TOWN HISTORY MUSIINGS Smith and Shane Blackett were with newly promoted Peterborough United. This is a record to be proud of for a small club like Arlesey. Season 2008/2009 saw Arlesey Town escape relegation by the skin of their teeth. No honours were forthcoming in the season. But the Club were hoping season 2009/2010 would be more fruitful, which it so proved. With a complete new management structure in place and a new Management team, of: Gary King Director of Football, Lee Cowley Manager, Zema Abbey Assistant Manager, and Darren Staniforth as Coach, Arlesey played the season with renewed style and passion, finishing the season in 9 th place in the League and getting through to the first round proper of the F.A. Trophy and lifting the Beds Senior Cup in the last game of the season. Season saw them staying in the Zamaretto Southern League in the new Central Division and saw them looking forward with a lot more hope and even more optimism, with the whole team showing great experience and growing in strength and confidence on and off the field all of the time. The season in which Arlesey were in the top echelons all season finished in dramatic stile as they won 10 games on the bounce, had 9 points deducted on the day they thought they had won the league away at Hayes and then beat long term arch rivals and near neighbours Hitchin Town on Hitchin s own ground on their last game of the season to be finally crowned League Champions.

ARLESEY TOWN HISTORY This was followed soon after by beating Biggleswade Town to retain the Beds Senior Cup at Luton Towns Kenilworth Road ground to give Arlesey a League and Cup Double and see them promoted to the new Evo-Stick Southern League Premier Division, a truly tremendous season. The season was topped off in early August of this year as Arlesey beat neighbours Luton Town in the Beds Premier Cup to make a quite unique treble for the side. The first season in the Premier League was seen as a settling in period targeting staying up and a good cup run, both of these ambitions were achieved with the club reaching the F.A. Cup 1 st round proper for the first time in their history. The second season again saw a good FA Cup run that went again to the 1 st round proper before it ended at the Ricoh Stadium against Coventry City. The season finished on a knife edge as Arlesey missed out on the play off spot of the Premier Div by just a single point. Although promotion was narrowly missed the Red Insure League Cup was won in a 2 legged final v Frome to bring home yet another impressive piece of Silverware. The squad like all good squads was rebuilt again through the summer and we looked forward to another successful season. But as the Abbeys left to take up management elsewhere we had a change of Management and in November 2013 Rufus Brevett arrived to take the club forward. Although his 1 st season was steady,a very difficult season in saw several changes of management as results failed to materialise a Rufus gave way after Christmas to ex manager Nick Ironton but again this failed to halt the slide and he in turn gave way during the season as Zema Abbey came back with brother Nathan as joint managers, Although this led to an improvement in playing style but they were unable to prevent relegation in the end back to the Central Division. The new season saw us struggle to get to grips with the style of the new division and early form showed us propping up the division but a second half resurgence saw us push up the division to finish in a mid-table position. This season sees us with most of last season s players returning to try to prove their point that they somewhat under achieved in the previous season. 42 WHAT THE PAPERS SAID: AFC DUNSTABLE Hartley Wintney maintained their place in the play-off zone with a win at third placed AFC Dunstable. A stunning free kick goal from Dean Stow, plus some resolute defending, particularly towards the end of the game, ensured the points went back to Hampshire. The match was played on a poor surface following a match played the previous day, and this made fluent play impossible. Dunstable, with the aid of a strong wind, attacked from the start and on 6 minutes good interplay between Moses Alaleye and Bernie Christie set up Nathan Frater who shot over the bar. Hartley worked their way into the game and on 16 minutes had a free kick some 25 yards from goal. Dean Stow s effort beat the wall and forced Jamie Head in the AFC goal to produce a good save. On 26 minutes, a right wing corner from Dean Stow found the head of Liam Eagle who directed his effort wide at the near post. The Row continued to probe and, on 32 minutes, a good through ball from Jack French set Jake Baxter clear. The striker saw his effort parried for a corner by Head. From the resulting flag kick, Liam Eagle s header found Jake Baxter who fired over; although he may well have been offside. On 45 minutes, an Adam Everiss corner found the head of Liam Eagle, who saw his effort cleared off the line. In added time, the home side came close when a Jermaine Hall corner found Terry Griffith, but he mis-cued his header wide. HALF TIME: AFC DUNSTABLE 0 HARTLEY WINTNEY 0 With the wind at their backs it did not take the Row long to post their first effort. Strong midfield play from Ty Smith set up Jake Baxter, who saw his effort from 18 yards go wide. However it was soon the home side's turn to test the opposition defence when, on 49 minutes, Hartley were grateful to Declan Shuttleworth for clearing off the line following a Dunstable corner. On 58 minutes, an Adam Everiss corner on the right was carried in by the wind and just missed the far post. The Row continued to press and good work from Dean Stow down the right saw a good delivery which just eluded an inrushing Shuttleworth at the far post. On 66 minutes Hartley finally got the breakthrough after being awarded a free kick some 25 yards from goal. Dean Stow took the kick and it crashed into the net off the underside of the crossbar. (0-1) On 76 minutes, the home side had a chance from a free kick after Liam Eagle was booked for hauling down Leon Cashman on the edge of the box. The free kick was well struck and the Row were relieved to see the ball deflected into the arms of Paul Strudley. The home side exerted considerable pressure for the remainder of the match, with Hartley unable to keep possession of the ball. On 78 minutes, a free kick from Newman Carney found Leon Cashman unmarked in front of goal. The striker s header went over the bar.with a heavy downpour of hailstones, Creasy Park became Greasy Park and conditions became atrocious. The hosts continued to press and on 86 minutes a good cross from Brett Longpen found Bill Morgan who headed over. A minute later, Drew Roberts had an effort which went wide, and soon afterwards, a shot from Danny Murphy was cleared off the Row line. On 90 minutes more late pressure saw a smart save from Paul Strudley from another effort by Drew Roberts. Then into the fifth minute of added time, Dean Stow picked up a second yellow card with a mistimed tackle, and was thus issued with a red card and ordered to leave the field of play. Hartley held on for the remaining minute of added time to record a notable win, with both centre backs, Liam Eagle and Jack Ball, outstanding throughout. [D Graham]

WHAT THE FANS SAID: AFC DUNSTABLE This was a tense match on a difficult pitch (highlighted by the wind, rain, snow and sleet) between two evenly balanced sides and saw Hartley pick up all three points thanks to a 25 yard thunderbolt freekick from Stowie midway through the second half and it was really that goal of quality which was the difference between the two sides in the end. Surprisingly we had the better chances in the first half, against the wind in the first half when firstly Liam should have scored with a trademark header and then poor old Jake missed a sitter from a couple of yards and their keeper had to make a couple of good saves at full stretch. In the second half when we should have gone for the jugular with the strong wind in our favour we seemed to take our foot off the accelerator and sit back and became sloppy in our passing which enabled the opposition to gain the initiative, especially after we had scored, and had two or three opportunities to level the match, but happily our erstwhile defence stood firm and weathered the storm, in more senses than one, even though the skipper was sent off towards the end for two rather reckless challenges which must have spoilt his day. Not a game for the purists, but all in all it was another battling all round performance by the lads against one of the teams above them, and they must take great credit for their commitment and effort especially Liam and Bally in keeping the score blank once again. Another huge game on Tuesday against our local rivals Fleet and lets hope we can keep up the pressure on the leaders and start making them look over their shoulders in horror!!!! UP THE ROW. Here endeth the lesson. VINTY A terrific result, which I had planned to see but ended up back home having to cut precarious sections of a half-fallen tree before the rest landed on our neighbour's conservatory. Missing the game did at least earn brownie points with the wife, who proclaimed "they'll win now you're not going". Of course, the wife is always right, as they always are! Well, I must say when I read the text from Luke to say Stowie had put us one up, it restored my energy levels almost back up to full... but my celebration shout lost me most of the brownie points :) Brilliant effort boys, very well done, superb win. We now have to make sure we go into Tuesday's game with our heads on and focused on the Fleet side who will be anxious to take all three points in our derby game. KOB
