2 Media information Dear Media Representative, Welcome to the third season of the Women s EHF Cup in the new format. Before the 2016/17 season the Cup Winners s Cup has merged with the Women s EHF Cup into one competition - the new Women s EHF Cup. Just like in the men s version of the EHF Cup, the new competition also included the group phase preceded by qualification rounds and followed by quarter-finals. The semi-finals and the final are played in a home and away games format. In the following media information you will find the essential facts you will require for the final two games and the participating teams. Important regulations What follows in case of a draw If, after completion of the two matches, both clubs have won the same number of points (no extra time will be played), the teams standings shall be determined by the following criteria: a) goal difference b) higher number of plus goals scored in away match c) penalty throws Rules for execution of penalty throws Prior to the penalty throws, each team shall name five players eligible to play at the end of the match by handing the referees a list of numbers. These players shall then take one throw each, alternating with their opponents. Each team is free to determine the sequence in which throwers will take their throws. The goalkeepers may be freely selected from the match report and exchanged in accordance with the Rules of the Game. Goalkeepers may take throws and throwers may perform as goalkeepers. The referees shall choose the goal at which throws are taken. The team taking the first penalty throw shall be determined by the referees by drawing lots. The team winning the draw may choose whether it wishes to throw first or last. If the scores are equal after the first round of penalty throws, it shall be continued until a decision is reached. In the second round, the other team shall start. Again five players shall be named who are eligible to play (the players named before may be named once again). In the second round, a decision is reached when a goal difference arises after both teams have taken one throw each. Eligible players are players entered in the match report that have not been disqualified or suspended at the time of the final whistle. Serious infractions committed during penalty throws shall be sanctioned by disqualification. If a thrower is disqualified or suffers an injury, an eligible substitute player shall be supplementary named. While the throws are being taken, only the player taking the throw, the current goalkeeper and the referees may enter the respective half of the playing court. If the number of eligible players falls below five, players may be named to take a second throw in the same round. Find all the regulations here 2

5 28 teams eye place in the second round A week after the men threw off the new European Cup season, the Women s EHF Cup 2018/19 will also get underway this Saturday and Sunday. Just like in the two previous seasons, three qualifying rounds will be played to determine the 16 teams for the group phase, which will take place early Qualification Round 1 features 28 teams, who are going to battle it out for 14 tickets to the next round. Nine ties, involving 18 teams, will be played as doubleheaders next week, so 10 teams will start their European adventures this weekend Issy Paris to play both legs against Metalurg in Skopje Issy Paris Hand, who participated in the EHF Cup Group Phase last season and were close to progressing to the quarter-final, now have to start from the earliest stage. They will face Macedonian side Metalurg in Round 1, with both legs to be played in Skopje this weekend. Issy lost some important players during the summer, as Lois Abbingh moved to Rostov-Don and goalkeeper Silje Solberg joined Siofok. On the other hand, their only signing Lucie Satrapova, who arrived from Kristianstad, seems to be adjusting well. The French side, coached by Arnaud Gandais, seems to be favourite against Metalurg, which suffered two heavy defeats against Malaga in qualification for the Challenge Cup last season. If Issy go through, they will face fellow French side Nantes in Round 2. The only other doubleheader this weekend will take place in Michalovce, where the local Slovakian team are hosting OTTO Work Force / VOC Amsterdam on Saturday and Sunday. Michalovce are led by new coach Peter Hatalcik, while VOC hope to improve from last season when they narrowly lost bith legs of the opening qualification round. Höör face an immediate challenge Similar to Issy, Höör played in the EHF Cup Group Phase last season but also missed out on the quarterfinal. They face an immediate challenge this season, being drawn against Lokomotiva Zagreb, which reached the Challenge Cup Final and Semi-final in last two seasons. The first leg is in Sweden on Saturday, the return leg in Croatia next week Saturday. Zvezda Zvenigorod, the Women s EHF Champions League 2008 winners, are the only Russian side to start their EHF Cup campaign from scratch. The team have seen a downfall in results in recent years, but now they hope for a comeback. They host Swiss side Zug in the first leg on Saturday. Elsewhere in the same day, Austrian runners-up and national cup winners Stockerau will play the first leg of their tie against Slavia Praha on home court. 5
