3 General idea Our aim is to develop and automate a secure control of the ball, which is necessary to learn dribbling. Dribbling can be differentiated into three variations. One can "hold onto the ball": the player dribbles slowly and reduces the tempo of the game. The player enables the team to catch up and organise an attack. In contrast one can drive the ball. When driving, the ball is propelled forward with speed or even during a sprint. It allows the player to gain space quickly. This variation is very useful for counter attacks. Feints are used in one on one situations. General rules for technique training Technique should be practised at the beginning of a training session (main part) Make pupils aware of technique. This happens by demonstrating and explaining a technique Systematic practise o Training principle: from easy to difficult o Practise in small groups to ensure high intensity o Work only on one element of a technique per session o Pay attention to correct execution of the techniques Correction of mistakes o Major errors must be corrected individually first. When the error appears repeatedly, the whole group must be corrected. Later, the technique is improved further until its final form. Adaptation to a competitive situation o Techniques are used during play o Organisational forms must be changed frequently to maintain motivation Page 3

4 Dribbling techniques Inside of the foot The upper body is bent slightly forwards Flex the shooting foot Dribble with the inside of the foot and stay close to the ball Take your gaze off the ball and observe your environment 1 Illus. 1: Inside of the foot Outside of the foot Propel the ball with the outside of the foot for quick changes in direction Take your gaze off the ball and observe your environment Place your body between the opponent and the ball 2 Illus. 2: Outside of the foot Instep With every contact place the ball slightly further ahead. Keep the ball closer to your feet in order to maintain control easier The toes are extended downwards and the ankle is fixed The instep is used in order to gain pace and space quickly, when there are no opponents in the way 3 Illus. 3: Instep Page 4

10 Shadow Dribbling 3 Free dribbling in a marked field Create pairs and dribble in the marked field. The person in front performs different arbitrary dribbling actions. The rear student copies the movements of the person in front. Change of roles after two minutes. Attention! Do not impede your fellow players! Page 10

11 Feint and pass 4 Dribble to the cone in the marked field. Make a feint 1,5 metres in front of the cone. Pass to your teammate on the opposite side. Attention! Reduce your tempo to practice a clean execution of the technique! Page 11
