The Dynamo put an end to a six-game winless run with a 2-1 win at the San Jose Earthquakes last Friday, leaving them eight points below the red line at the foot of the conference standings with 10 matches to play. Sounders FC have reeled off three wins in a row, the last a 3-1 win against arch-rivals Portland Timbers on Sunday evening at CenturyLink Field, now sitting just two points below the red line in eighth place in the division. Giles Barnes gave the Dynamo a first-half lead, but Sounders FC s Chad Marshall scored deep into second-half stoppage time for the equalizer as the teams reached a 1-1 draw April 10 at BBVA Compass Stadium. The Dynamo have never lost to Sounders FC in Houston. In six meetings all-time there, the Dynamo have won three, with three draws. The Dynamo also won a game in the 2009 MLS Cup Playoffs. Sounders FC have never lost to the Dynamo in Seattle. In six league meetings all-time, Sounders FC have won five, with one draw, outscoring Houston 10-2, following their 1-0 win last April 4 at CenturyLink Field. But Sounders FC hit for the leveler with the last kick of the game, as Oalex Anderson's fizzing cross wasn't cleared and center back Chad Marshall was left with an easy finish deep into stoppage time. HOUSTON DYNAMO The Houston Dynamo put an end to their winless streak after six matches, defeating the San Jose Earthquakes 2-1 on Friday evening at Avaya Stadium. The Dynamo are in 10th place in the Western Conference with 24 points from 24 games. LAST MATCH The Houston Dynamo took the early lead when Ricardo Clark finished Cristian Maidana's cross which took a deflection and trickled across the Quakes' penalty area in the sixth minute. Five minutes into the second half, the Dynamo doubled their lead to 2-0 when David Horst headed in a Maidana free kick from the left flank. MLS GAME INFORMATION

4 The home side pulled a goal back in the 54th minute, when Victor Bernardez scored his first goal of the season, sending in Alberto Quintero's cross from the center of the area, but the home side could get no closer. Dynamo interim head coach Wade Barrett made three changes to the team that reached a 1-1 draw with Toronto FC at BBVA Compass Stadium. David Horst and Raul Rodriguez came into the back four in place of Agus and Abdoulie Mansally, and Ricardo Clark came into the side in place of Andrew Wenger. It was the club s first victory since July 2, the second in 12 matches after Wade Barrett took over as interim head coach. The Dynamo will be aiming to win consecutive league matches for the first time this season in the Sounders FC contest, after not having followed any of their first four victories with another. It was not a perfect game, from our side of things. But it s a perfect result. The team, right now, needed a win, said Barrett. We ve been really close in some other results. We ve played well enough to get a win, and it just hasn t been there for us. The Dynamo also put an end to their road winless streak after 20 matches with the win in San Jose, their first on their travels since July 18, 2015, tied for the fifth-longest such run in MLS history. It s something that we ve been working for since a long time ago, but to be honest with you, it was not the best game that we did on the road, defender Raul Rodriguez said. It was not exactly the best performance, especially offensively. We lost a lot of balls and we were defending, all the time. I would say, like, percent of the time defending. Ricardo Clark scored his fourth goal of the season in league play, his first since June 2, now having scored four goals or more in each of the last four seasons after not scoring more than three in any of his first eight MLS campaigns. David Horst scored his third goal of the season, his first since April 15. Horst scored two goals total over his first eight MLS seasons combined, his first goal coming in Raul Rodriguez made his first start since July 23, coming into central defense and playing the full 90 minutes. He came off the substitutes bench in the Toronto FC game after missing two matches through injury. You can easily just let [the season] go, after so many games when you are there and you just need one goal or you are losing the game in minute 90, 92 that happened a lot to us, Rodriguez said. You can just say, OK, just 10 games left, whatever. But we did not do that. We were pretty strong, even if it was not a game we controlled. We were tough to play against, and I would say that s something we ve been bringing every game since the last three months. That s something great. SEATTLE SOUNDERS FC Seattle Sounders FC won their third game on the trot, defeating the Portland Timbers 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at CenturyLink Field. Sounders FC are in a tie for eighth place in the Western Conference with 30 points from 24 games. LAST MATCH Sounders FC grabbed the lead in the 61st minute after Cristian Roldan was taken down in the penalty area by Portland defender Vytas Andriuskevicius, referee Alan Kelly pointing to the spot. Clint Dempsey slotted home the ensuing penalty kick past Timbers goalkeeper Jake Gleeson. Dempsey then scored his second in the 80th minute, finishing off a left-footed shot from just outside the box off a Roldan feed. Roldan then put the game away in the 83rd minute, netting a header off a pinpoint corner kick from Nicolas Lodeiro that was flicked on at the near post by defender Brad Evans. The Timbers did pull a goal back late when Fanendo Adi slotted home from the heart of the area after Alvas Powell claimed a rebound on the right of the box and laid the ball back. Sounders FC interim head coach Brian Schmetzer kept the same first XI for a third consecutive match, maintaining the group that defeated Real Salt Lake 2-1 at CenturyLink Field. TEAM NEWS Sounders FC won a third consecutive game in league play for the first time this season in the win against their arch-rivals in the Timbers. I think I have gone on record many times to say that group is a committed group. They needed some spark. When you have a committed group of players that are committed to each other and committed to winning, that is a proud team. Their response has been tremendous, said Sounders FC interim head coach Brian Schmetzer. MLS GAME INFORMATION

5 Sounders FC scored multiple goals for a third consecutive match as well. Sounders FC had scored eight goals total in their previous eight matches combined, from June 19-July 31 which included the 5-0 win vs. FC Dallas on July 13. It s always easier when you re doing well to approach that next week because you re not second-guessing yourself, Clint Dempsey said. You re thinking about the positives and trying to continue this wave that we re on. It s the best run we ve been on all season, just enjoying playing and the style that we re playing. Hopefully we can keep it going and make it to the playoffs. Dempsey scored a pair of goals, his second multiple-goal game in the last three matches and the ninth multigoal game of his MLS career, after netting a hat trick Aug. 7 at Orlando City. Dempsey has five goals and one assist over the three-game winning run; since his return from the U.S. national team for Copa América Centenario, Dempsey has six goals and two assists in seven matches. It s back to everybody having fun, Dempsey said. We re circulating the ball well, we re getting good looks and it s not just one person or the other. I feel like everybody s getting looks. When you re doing that, creating good chances and opportunities and getting good results, that s when you re having the most fun. That s the kind of run we re on right now. Cristian Roldan scored a goal and added an assist, the first time he s been involved in multiple goals in the same game in his MLS career. Roldan has three goals and two assists over the last seven matches. What a fantastic performance by that kid, said Schmetzer. He is a kid that will do whatever it takes, sacrifice whatever to help the team win. I think his commitment to the team, his eagerness to learn and all those qualities he has, that s what you guys see out there. He s a tremendous talent and we re only hoping for bigger and better things from him. Said Roldan: We re connecting at all different levels. We re defending together as a group and we re attacking almost six guys. It s a change in dynamic in the team and I think it s working for us. Nicolas Lodeiro collected an assist, now with a goal and/or an assist in each of the last three matches, with one goal and four assists over that spell, having played a part in five of Sounders FC s eight goals. The way we play, with Andreas [Ivanschitz] s position a little wider and Nico [Lodeiro] coming in, we need our outside backs to go. We worked on that this week in training, said Schmetzer. The timing wasn t right in the first half. I think derby games are hard to play it was hard for us to find any kind of rhythm, but in the second half they found their rhythm. MLS GAME INFORMATION

The busy week continues on Saturday as the Dynamo welcome FC Dallas for the final Texas Derby of The Dynamo secured their first road win of the season - and first since July 10, with a 2-1 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes on Friday. Houston's last road win also was at Avaya Stadium. MF Ricardo Clark celebrated his 300th career MLS regular-season appearance with his fourth goal of the season off a cross from MF Cristian Maidana in the sixth minute. D David Horst doubled the lead five minutes after halftime, rising to meet a free kick from Maidana and heading past GK David Bingham for a 2-0 lead. The Earthquakes pulled a goal back through D Victor Bernardez, but GK Joe Willis made three spectacular saves in the second half to preserve the win. "It was a hard-fought game," interim head coach Wade Barrett told media after the game. "The guys have been hungry for a win for a long time, the organization has been hungry for a win for a long time. And it just feels good to finally get one of the road. It s been a long time for us, for whatever reason. I think we ve had some good road performances in the last couple months, but again the result just hasn t been there for us. This is also one game, so we have to try to take momentum from the result we got tonight and take that into this next week. We have Seattle at home on Wednesday and then Dallas at home on Saturday, so a tall task in the next couple games. Now the responsibility is for the group to take momentum, learn from mistakes we might have made tonight, emphasize some of the things we did well and be prepared for Wednesday. Three points is nice, but we need to try to build on it. "I was obviously really pleased that we got the early goal," Barrett added. "That s something that we ve been lacking in a lot of games where we ve had good looks at goal and we haven t been able to find the net... But we were under a lot of pressure for most of the night. Got an early goal in each half, which was great. Withstood a ton of pressure, and it was not a perfect game from our side of things. But it s a perfect result. 17 2016 GAME NOTES GAME 25 THE LAST TIME THEY MET HOUSTON METHODIST INJURY REPORT HOUSTON (April 10, 2016) MF Giles Barnes scored his second goal of the season but Seattle Sounders D Chad Marshall scored on the game s final play as the Dynamo and Sounders drew 1-1 Sunday afternoon at BBVA Compass Stadium. Barnes delivered the Dynamo a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute, producing a wonderful finish with the inside of his foot from a very difficult angle. After a throw in, D Jalil Anibaba drove a low cross and Barnes rotated his hips with a calm touch for a finish into the far upper corner, leaving no chance for Seattle GK Stefan Frei as Houston took a 1-0 lead. It was Barnes 32nd career goal in all competitions to tie Dwayne De Rosario for fourth on the Dynamo s all-time scoring list. Seattle pushed several defenders forward late and was rewarded in the fourth minute of stoppage time. After the Dynamo failed to clear, Seattle substitute FW Oalex Anderson drove a low cross from the left through the six-yard box. Dynamo GK Joe Willis palmed the cross away, but it struck the foot of D Raúl Rodríguez and bounced to Marshall, who calmly finished from eight yards for the tying goal. Referee Ismail Elfath blew the whistle for full time moments later. 18 2016 GAME NOTES GAME 25 LAST GAME - #SJvHOU SAN JOSE (Friday, August 19, 2016) The Houston Dynamo captured their first victory away from home this season with a 2-1 win over the San Jose Earthquakes at Avaya Stadium in San Jose Friday night. The Dynamo used goals from MF Ricardo Clark and D David Horst, combined with a number of spectacular saves by GK Joe Willis, to walk away with their first road victory in more than a calendar year. Houston s last road victory also came at San Jose on July 10, 2015, a span of 20 road trips without a win. Clark scored in that match as well. Clark, wearing the captain s armband in his 300th career MLS appearance, opened the scoring tonight with a goal in the sixth minute. MF Boniek García won a tackle that fell to MF Cristián Maidana on the left side of the box, and Maidana s low cross made its way through traffic to Clark, who easily slotted it home. Horst doubled the Dynamo lead less than five minutes after intermission when he headed home a cross from Maidana on a free kick. The goal was Horst s third of the season, extending a career high for the defender. San Jose pulled a goal back in the 54th minute when D Victor Bernárdez put a right-footed cross from Quintero into the net following a spectacular save from GK Joe Willis moments earlier to deny San Jose star F Chris Wondolowski. The Earthquakes threatened throughout the match, but Willis came up big time and time again. The 6-5 goalkeeper finished with four saves, including three spectacular ones in the second half as San Jose pressed for an equalizing goal in the second half. Willis dove to stop a header from San Jose MF Shea Salinas in the 49th minute. Five minutes later he parried a header from Wondolowski, and as the ball caromed up in the air, palmed it off the goal line. DYNAMO HOST FC DALLAS ON SATURDAY The Dynamo and FC Dallas meet for the fourth Texas Derby of 2016 Saturday at BBVA Compass Stadium. With a win, draw or a defeat of four goals or less, the Dynamo will win the season series and regain El Capitan for the first time since FC Dallas ousted the Dynamo in the quarterfinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on July 20. Fabian Castillo broke a scoreless game with the winning goal moments into second-half stoppage time for a 1-0 FC Dallas win. Houston trounced FC Dallas 5-0 on March 12 and the rivals played to a 1-1 draw on June 2 in Dallas in a game that included a lengthy weather delay shortly after kickoff. FC Dallas continued its Open Cup dramatics with two goals late in extra time for a 2-1 win at the LA Galaxy in the semifinals on August 10 and will host the Open Cup Final on September 13 against the New England Revolution. FC Dallas has a two-point lead in the race for the MLS Supporters Shield (45 points through August 21) and can win it for the first time in club history after finishing second to the New York Red Bulls on tiebreaker last year. Lodeiro, 27, has played in two FIFA World Cups for Uruguay and has also played for Ajax, Botafogo and Corinthians. Beginning with Lodeiro's debut on July 31 vs. the LA Galaxy, the Sounders are and are within two points of the Portland Timbers for sixth place and the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Lodeiro has one goal and four assists in four appearances for Seattle, each of which was 90 minutes. Lodeiro has revived a stagnant offense for Seattle, which features Texas native Clint Dempsey, the second-leading scorer in U.S. national team history. The agreement includes a loan through the end of 2016 with an option for a permanent transfer. Brown, 24, has made 168 appearances in the Costa Rican first division, including 44 during the season with Herediano, one of Costa Rica s largest clubs. The central defender helped Herediano win two league titles, the 2015 and 2016 Verano (summer season) tournaments. He scored the tying goal in extra time of the second leg of the 2015 Final, a penalty shootout victory over Alajuelense. Brown started both legs of the 2016 Final in May as Herediano defeated Alajuelense once again. He was a regular starter as Herediano made consecutive appearances in the CONCACAF Champions League, including starts in both legs of the semifinals, a 6-3 aggregate series defeat to Club América. The Puerto Limón, Costa Rica native debuted in the Costa Rican top flight in 2010 with Brujas FC and has two caps for the Costa Rica national team and made one appearance at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Escalante, a left-footed winger, is the first player to move from Rio Grande Valley FC, the Dynamo s hybrid USL affiliate, to the Dynamo on a full MLS contract. The 21-year-old joined RGV FC on loan from Olimpia in March and scored three goals and added two assists in 14 appearances. Escalante is the fourth player acquired by the Dynamo with Olimpia ties, the most successful club in Honduras. He follows Dynamo veteran Boniek García along with former players Luis Garrido and Alexander Lopez from Olimpia to Houston. A native of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, Escalante was captain of Los Catrachos at the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup and played for the Honduras U-17 national team. 22 2016 GAME NOTES GAME 25 TORRES RETURNS FROM RIO OLYMPICS Dynamo forward Erick Torres returned to the Dynamo last Wednesday and was an unused substitute on Friday at San Jose. The 23-year-old appeared in two games at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, including a 90-minute outing in Mexico's 1-0 loss to South Korea in the group stage finale on August 10. Torres also appeared as a substitute vs. Germany in the group stage opener. Mexico finished third in Group C and was eliminated after winning the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympic Games. Torres was part of Mexico s 18-player squad for the Olympics and joined the team on July 24 after he played 90 minutes for the Dynamo in a 0-0 draw with Vancouver on July 23. Torres was the only player in Major League Soccer to be called into the team, as well as the only non-liga MX player on the roster. Last October, Torres was named to the Best XI team at the 2015 CON- CACAF Men s Olympic Qualifying Championship by the Technical Study Group after scoring three goals. Mexico won its second consecutive CON- CACAF U-23 championship to qualify for 2016 Rio Olympics. DYNAMO ACQUIRE COLOMBIAN MIDFIELDER YAIR ARBOLEDA ON LOAN FROM SANTA FE The Dynamo acquired midfielder Yair Arboleda Quiñones on loan from Independiente Santa Fe of the Colombian first division on July 29. The agreement includes a loan through the end of 2016 with an option for a permanent transfer. Arboleda will be added to Dynamo roster pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate. Born in Tuluá, Colombia, Arboleda (pronounced: Ar-bo-LEY-ah) rose through the youth academy of Independiente Santa Fe, one of the largest clubs in Colombia with eight league titles. He joined Club Tijuana in 2014 and scored five goals in 12 appearances for the Tijuana reserves. Arboleda, 20, returned to Santa Fe in 2015 and scored one goal in six first-team appearances for Los Cardenales and added one more in goal in the Copa Colombia. Arboleda spent time with the Colombia U-17 national team and joins his fellow Colombian, 21-year-old forward Mauro Manotas, on the Dynamo first team. He will be the fifth player to occupy an international roster spot on the Dynamo roster, along with Agus García, Cristian Maidana, Erick Torres and Manotas. Previous club: Independiente Santa Fe How acquired: On loan from Independiente Santa Fe as a discovery signing for the remainder of the year on July 29, A TALE OF TWO SEASONS The 2016 Dynamo season can be described as two seasons, with an early-season offensive surge and defensive struggles in the beginning and an improved defensive record coinciding with a leaner offensive output the last few months. A 3-2 loss at Portland on June 26 bucked the trend, but low-scoring games returned with 10 total goals scored in the last eight games. A few notes on the swings in offensive and defensive efficiency: The Dynamo set an MLS record with 11 goals through three games this season. During that time, the club allowed seven goals. Since the third game of the season, the Dynamo have scored only 16 goals in 21 games (0.76 goals per game), and scored more than one goal just three times. Since allowing a season-high four goals in a 4-1 loss to the LA Galaxy on April 15, the Dynamo have allowed 17 goals in their last 18 games (0.94 goals allowed per game). Outside of the 3-2 loss on June 26 and Friday's 2-1 win at San Jose, neither team has scored more than one goal in each of the other 12 games. DYNAMO TRADE GILES BARNES TO VANCOUVER WHITECAPS FC The Dynamo made a significant trade on July 30 acquiring General Allocation Money and a right of first refusal for Costa Rican defender Keyner Brown from Vancouver Whitecaps FC in a trade for MF Giles Barnes. The Dynamo will retain a percentage of any future transfer fees if Barnes is loaned or transferred outside the league. Barnes, 27, played in 113 Major League Soccer contests since joining the Dynamo in 2012, starting 108, and scored 31 goals in league play for the club. Across all competitions, the London native has appeared in 131 games with 119 starts and scored 34 goals. This season, Barnes has played in 14 games with 13 starts and has scored four goals. At the international level, Barnes has earned 18 caps for Jamaica and has scored three goals in international play. By acquiring the right of first refusal for Brown from Vancouver, the Dynamo gained the opportunity to negotiate with him. The Dynamo allowed 12 road goals in six road games (2.0 goals per game) before Barrett took chrage. Houston has allowed eight road goals in seven road games under Barrett (1.14 goals per game). CLARK PASSES ASHE FOR NO. 2 ON REGULAR-SEASON GAMES LIST Dynamo MF Ricardo Clark made his 212th career regular-season appearance with the Dynamo on July 15 at the LA Galaxy, passing Corey Ashe for second on the club list. Clark is now in second place in Dynamo history in five of six categories related to games, starts and minutes. Clark is second is regular season games (216), starts (209) and minutes (18,401). He is also second in starts (254) and minutes (22,341) in all competitions with Houston. Clark is third in appearances in all competitions (265), one back of Ashe (266). NO EASY ROAD The Dynamo coaching staff and players emphasized the importance of improving the club's road form this season. Through 13 road games, Houston is 1-9-3, with one win and three draws in seven road games under interim head coach Wade Barrett. The Dynamo were on the road under Owen Coyle this season before his May 25 departure. 24 2016 GAME NOTES GAME 25 WADE BARRETT NAMED INTERIM HEAD COACH FOR 2016 SEASON The Houston Dynamo appointed Wade Barrett as interim head coach for the remainder of the 2016 season on June 7. Barrett is in his seventh season on the Dynamo coaching staff. Following the resignation of head coach Owen Coyle, he led the team and the coaching staff for the last two games, garnering 1-1 draws on the road at Vancouver Whitecaps FC and FC Dallas. The two draws earned Houston its first points on the road this season after an start away from home. Wade has given a lot to this club through the years, first as a player and now as a coach, and we believe he is the right person to lead the team at this time, Dynamo VP/general manager Matt Jordan said. Our goals set forth in preseason remain the same, as we prepare to start the U.S. Open Cup next Wednesday and resume league play. As an organization we are focused on moving forward to achieve our goals and have a successful season. Barrett, 39, was team captain as the Dynamo won the MLS Cup in 2006 and 2007 and wore the captain s armband for 138 of his 140 all-time appearances with Houston. The former defender transitioned from player to coach in 2010 and served on the staff of Dominic Kinnear as the club reached the MLS Cup final after both the 2011 and 2012 seasons. I want to thank Gabriel Brener and the ownership group, Chris Canetti and Matt Jordan for the chance to lead this club forward, Barrett said. Houston is my home and this club, in its entirety, is in my blood. We have a tremendous opportunity to create a standard of performance that will make the city and our fans proud. The Virginia Beach, Virginia native assisted on the first goal in Dynamo history and played every league and playoff game except one in the Dynamo s back-to-back championship seasons of 2006 and Capped twice for the United States national team, Barrett was an MLS All-Star and named to the MLS Best XI in He finished his Dynamo career with 140 games, 139 starts, and 12,399 minutes played in all competitions. He appeared in 99 career regular season and 11 career playoff games for Houston. We do face challenges over the next few months but also great opportunity, Barrett said. This club was built on the foundations of hard work, discipline and selfless work towards a common goal. We will use that as our platform to improve in all areas both on and off the field. Barrett attended the College of William & Mary and completed a B.A. in economics via correspondence in his early days as a professional with the San Jose Clash. He remained in San Jose as the franchise became the Earthquakes and won the 2001 MLS Cup title, then played with Aarhus (Denmark) and Fredrikstad (Norway) from He rejoined the Earthquakes in 2005, Dominic Kinnear s second year as head coach, as club captain, and helped them capture the Supporters Shield. Prior to the 2006 season, Barrett moved to Houston along with the rest of the players and team staff to become the Dynamo. Assistant coaches Paul Caffrey and Paul Rogers will continue to assist Barrett on the club s technical staff after the trio managed the team for two road games following the May 25 departure of Coyle. Paul Caffrey enters his second season with the Dynamo in The Dublin, Ireland native holds experience in MLS and with the United States national team program. Caffrey spent 2014 at Chivas USA as the first assistant coach under Wilmer Cabrera. He served as an assistant coach and fitness coach with the Colorado Rapids on Oscar Pareja s staff from Caffrey also was the first assistant coach under Cabrera with the United States under-17 national team from and oversaw the physical preparation and fitness training of the team. Caffrey played four seasons with the Long Island Rough Riders after a four-year college career at Adelphi University. Caffrey s experience also includes roles as the director of coaching with the Rough Riders from and head coach and assistant athletic director with Suffolk County (New York) Community College from Paul Rogers joined the Dynamo in 2015 after serving as the U.S. Women's National Team goalkeeper coach since The Brighton, England native joined the U.S. women s national team as goalkeeper coach in March 2009 and helped lead the U.S. to a gold medal at the 2012 Olympic Games and a second-place finish at the 2010 FIFA Women s World Cup. Rogers served as goalkeeper coach for the Canada Women s National Team in 2008, helping them to a runner-up finish in CONCA- CAF Olympic Qualifying and the team s first appearance in the Olympics, where they reached the quarterfinals. He holds a USSF A License, UEFA B License, UEFA B Goalkeeper License and NSCAA Goalkeeper License, as well as a bachelor s degree in sport administration from Indianapolis University. As a player, Rogers had spells with several professional and semi-professional clubs in England, including time as a youth player with Queens Park Rangers, Plymouth Argyle and Brighton and as a senior player with Brighton & Hove Albion.

25 2016 GAME NOTES GAME 25 ERIC ALEXANDER: MAN OF THE WORLD Eric Alexander is just 28 years old, but could offer a proper to-do list in four prominent North American cities spanning both coasts and the Lone Star state. For Alexander, a six-year MLS veteran with 172 career appearances, life in Major League Soccer includes the constant understanding that a trade could uproot your sense of permanence. It also makes moving across a continent from Dallas to Portland to New York City to Montreal and now, Houston with Kaya, Alexander s eight-year-old Rottweiler, virtually impossible. For now, Kaya lives with Alexander s parents Donald and Donna in Portage, Michigan. Alexander s hometown is just south of Kalamazoo, on the west side of the Wolverine state, halfway between Chicago and Detroit. Alexander moved to Houston, his fifth MLS city, on July 26, days after the Dynamo acquired him from the Montreal Impact in a trade to bolster the midfield. Alexander started five of six games before the trade and figures to compete for a starting position in the Dynamo midfield, where his versatility and quality led to 80 consecutive MLS appearances with the New York Red Bulls and Impact from October 2012 to June It s very nice [to be wanted by the Dynamo], Alexander told Forever Orange magazine. Talking with [interim head coach Wade Barrett and GM Matt Jordan], I m very excited to get going and see what I can bring to the team and hopefully provide some competition for positions and make the overall group better. Alexander has mostly played as a central midfielder, in a No. 6 or No. 8 role, but also played on the right wing for the Red Bulls. His two best MLS seasons coincided with the best two-year run in New York s history. Alexander played all 68 regular-season games and seven playoff contests in 2013 and 2014, starting all but nine. The Red Bulls won the MLS Supporters Shield with the league s best regular season record in 2013 before falling to the Dynamo in the playoffs. A year later, Alexander set a career-high with nine assists as New York reached the Eastern Conference Championships. The Dynamo like Alexander s ability to increase the tempo in midfield and cycle the ball quickly to the attacking players. He s very good at transitioning the ball from the middle third to the offensive third of the field, Dynamo VP/GM Matt Jordan said. His forward passing percentage is amongst the highest in the league, and that s something that we feel we can continue to improve on [as a team]. I think it s important to be able to connect all the players and not just rely on long balls and things like that, Alexander said. Soccer is so mental, and trying to find different areas to give the creative guys and the finishers the ball is always a challenge. I think that s one area that I hope to help in. Alexander has two friendly faces in the Dynamo locker room: Will Bruin and David Horst. Alexander and Bruin were teammates for two seasons at Indiana University, where Alexander earned an Economics degree, following the studies of his father, an Economics professor at Western Michigan University. Will was a great guy in college, and he ended up living down the street, and we did a lot of team bonding because we had a bunch of guys that lived on one street, so it was a good time. Alexander and Horst were teammates for two seasons ( ) with the Portland Timbers. Dave was always a very nice guy, very welcoming, and he s done the same here. He s a good guy to hang out with outside of soccer, very charismatic. Now settling into the Bayou City, Alexander is closer to family, with sister Meredith living in Dallas. It s nice because she moved to Dallas when I used to play for Dallas, so it was nice to have some family there. It s nice to be back in Texas and we are fairly close and we ll be able to see each other a lot more than before. This article appears in the August issue of the We Are Orange gameday magazine. It was just a good, hard working team, Alexander remembers of those Red Bulls teams. It was a good group of guys, and we had faith in each other and that training environment was good and everything about it, it was one of those things where everything came together. I m sure Houston has experienced it (too), winning several championships. That good push you get as a group. You go out every day and everyone tries to make each other better. It s hard to explain. It s just a good group of guys and people who wanted to win. The Reb Bulls led the league with 58 goals in 2013 and scored 55 goals a year later, most in the Eastern Conference. The New York midfield, featuring a combination of Alexander, Dax McCarty, Tim Cahill, Lloyd Sam and Jonny Steele, supplied the high-powered attack for forwards Thierry Henry and Bradley Wright-Phillips, who combined to score 37 goals in

26 2016 GAME NOTES GAME 25 HOUSTON RATED NO. 2 SOCCER MARKET IN AMERICA Houston has a large and loyal soccer fan base, not only for the Dynamo, but for teams around the world. In fact, in March the well-respected soccer marketing organization Gilt Edge Soccer Marketing conducted a study which rated Space City as the No. 2 soccer market in America. The methodology utilized to develop the study was specifically created to consider a broad range of factors addressing all the different types of soccer fan and soccer interests that exist in the U.S. Collectively a total of 22 different data sets were evaluated and provided via independent sources including: Scarborough, Google, Facebook, Twitter, FoxSoccer.com, MLS, US Soccer, MLS, NASL, NWSL, and USL. The study assessed fans consumption of soccer across five areas: playing, watching, attending, conversing and searching. With the Dynamo, the Dash of NWSL and a 70,000-seat NFL stadium in town that has hosted multiple major international matches and will soon host three matches in the Copa America Centenario, Houston ranks well across many categories including aggregate attendance (5th) and overall Scarborough attendance (6th). UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT After spending their first decade under the auspices of Anschutz Entertainment Group, the Houston Dynamo are under new leadership in Friday's match marked the first time the Dynamo have faced LA Galaxy without the two clubs existing under the same ownership umbrella. A group led by Gabriel Brener, CEO of Brener International Group, LLC, acquired AEG s interests in the Dynamo, the NWSL s Houston Dash and BBVA Compass Stadium on Dec. 15, the 10th anniversary of the team s arrival in Houston on Dec. 15, Having served as a minority owner of the Dynamo since 2008, Brener, a native of Mexico and successful entrepreneur, will lead the ownership group comprised of three other investors: Oscar De La Hoya, also currently a minority partner of the club, as well as Portland-based investor Jake Silverstein and Houston businessman Ben Guill. Brener is the only Mexican-born owner of a professional sports franchise in America. Facebook keyword activity is notably strong with Major League Soccer (5th), Liga MX (2nd), Mexican National Team (4th), and UEFA Champions League (5th). A 6th place ranking for Scarborough soccer television viewership also helped to round out an impressive showing for Houston.

Opened on May 12, 2012, the 340,000-square foot, 22,000-seat stadium is the first soccer-specific stadium in Major League Soccer located in a city s downtown district. HOU After the 3-1 victory, Sounders FC improved to in the 2016 MLS regular season. Gomez made his Sounders FC debut when he came on for Jordan Morris in the 79th minute. The veteran forward signed with the Rave Green on March 24. LODEIRO EFFECT Since making his MLS debut on July 31 versus the LA Galaxy, Seattle midfielder Nico Lodeiro has played every minute and has propelled Sounders FC back into the postseason hunt. The 27-year-old Uruguayan international previously played for Argentine power Boca Juniors. PT INTERIM HEAD COACH BRIAN SCHMETZER Longtime Sounders FC assistant and former USL Sounders manager Brian Schmetzer was named Interim Head Coach on July 26, 2016 following the departure of Sigi Schmid. Schmetzer entered his eighth season as Top Assistant Coach in 2016, a position he retained since December 22, He is one of the Puget Sound soccer community s most recognizable figures after playing and coaching for the region s top professional franchises since Schmetzer served seven seasons as the Head Coach of the Sounders United Soccer League s First Division club. He guided Seattle to USL-1 championships in 2005 and 2007, and Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup semifinal advancements in 2007 and Schmetzer has 13 years of experience coaching and 15 years of playing at the professional level. He was a member of six championship teams during that span.
