HOUSTON DYNAMO vs REAL SALT LAKE BBVA COMPASS STADIUM, Houston, Texas May 14, 2016 (WEEK 11; MLS Game #107) 7:30 p.m. CT (ROOT-SW; KMYU-12) The Houston Dynamo and Real Salt Lake meet for a second time in the last three weeks when the Western Conference clubs face off Saturday evening at BBVA Compass Stadium. The Dynamo sit at the foot of the conference table, with just one win in their last eight outings following a 3-1 loss at the San Jose Earthquakes last weekend. Real have lost twice in their last three games following an undefeated start to the campaign, coming off a 1-0 loss at the Colorado Rapids last weekend. RSL took a 2-1 win when the clubs met April 30 at Rio Tinto Stadium. REFEREE: Juan Guzman. AR1 (bench): Eric Boria; AR2 (opposite): Adam Garner; 4 th : Younes Marrakchi MLS Career: 66 games; FC/gm: 25.4; Y/gm: 3.6; R: 21; pens: 15 SUSPENDED: HOU: Tyler Deric (through May 15) WARNINGS: SUSPENDED NEXT YELLOW CARD: none SUSPENDED AFTER TWO YELLOW CARDS: HOU: Jalil Anibaba RSL: Kyle Beckerman DISABLED LIST: none INTERNATIONAL ABSENCES: none HEAD-TO-HEAD ALL-TIME (22 meetings): Dynamo 9 wins, 30 goals Real 8 wins, 35 goals Ties 5 AT HOUSTON (11 meetings): Dynamo 8 wins, 25 goals Real 2 wins, 22 goals Ties 1 FUTURE MATCH: 9/17: Real Salt Lake vs. Houston Dynamo, 7:30 p.m. MT The teams are meeting for the second time this season, the second time in two weeks. Jordan Allen netted a second-half equalizer, then set up Yura Movsisyan for the game-winner for a 2-1 RSL victory April 30 at Rio Tinto Stadium. It was Real s fifth consecutive victory over the Dynamo, dating back to Real have won on their last two visits to Houston their first wins ever there. They suffered eight defeats and one draw in their first nine road games against the Dynamo. RSL has taken points from their last eight home games vs. Houston, with five victories in that time. Coaches record: Jeff Cassar vs. HOU: P4 W4 L0 T0 Owen Coyle vs. RSL: P3 W0 L3 T0 LAST MEETING (MLS): 4/30: RSL 2, HOU 1 (Allen 62; Movsisyan 70 Miranda 54) The Dynamo took the lead in the 54th minute when Giles Barnes corraled a loose ball and found Leonel Miranda at the top of the box, whose shot took a deflection off a defender's arm and found its way into the goal. But Real were level just eight minutes when Justen Glad made a nice turn at the top of the penalty area to feed Jordan Allen for a rocket which sailed into the back of the net for the equalizer. Eight minutes later, RSL turned possession into a great team goal when Demar Phillips sent a great low cross into the penalty area from the wing for Yura Movsisyan to slide into and knock home for the winner. HOUSTON DYNAMO ( ): Joe Willis - Sheanon Williams, Raul Rodriguez, Agus, DaMarcus Beasley (Cristian Maidana 83) - Collen Warner (Will Bruin 75), Ricardo Clark - Andrew Wenger, Boniek Garcia (Erick Torres 83), Leonel Miranda - Giles Barnes. REAL SALT LAKE ( ): Nick Rimando - Tony Beltran, Justen Glad, Aaron Maund (Jamison Olave 36), Demar Phillips - Sunday Stephen (Luke Mulholland 85), Kyle Beckerman - Javier Morales - Juan Manuel Martinez (Devon Sandoval 88), Yura Movsisyan, Jordan Allen. HOUSTON DYNAMO The Houston Dynamo weren t able to build upon a first win in seven matches, falling 3-1 to the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday evening at Avaya Stadium. The Dynamo are in 10th place in the Western Conference with 8 points from 10 games. LAST MATCH The Quakes opened the scoring just three minutes in, as Chris Wondolowski sent in a low cross from the right flank that Alberto Quintero got a touch to in front of goal after racing to beat the Dynamo defenders, the ball taking a wicked bounce before trickling inside the right post. The Dynamo pulled even two minutes before halftime. A long-range shot was parried by Quakes goalkeeper David Bingham, but Ricardo Clark ran onto the ball and unleashed a wicked first-time effort that flew unimpeded into the net. MLS GAME INFORMATION

The Quakes regained the lead five minutes after the break, as Alberto Quintero and Anibal Godoy played a one-two on the left side of the area which Godoy finished past Deric. Quintero nabbed his second goal of the night in the 70th minute, when Wondolowski saw an effort blocked but, surrounded by three defenders, slid a short pass to Quintero all alone in front of goal. The Dynamo's night went from bad to worse in the 79th minute, when goalkeeper Tyler Deric was sent off for denial of an obvious goalscoring opportunity, and defender Jalil Anibaba had to go in goal because Houston had already used all three substitutes on the night. Dynamo head coach Owen Coyle made two changes to the team that defeated Sporting Kansas City 2-0 at BBVA Compass Stadium. Abdoulie Mansally came in at fullback for DaMarcus Beasley, and Will Bruin started up top in place of Erick Torres. HOUSTON DYNAMO ( ): Tyler Deric (ejected 79) - Jalil Anibaba, David Horst, Agus, Abdoulie Mansally - Ricardo Clark, Alex - Andrew Wenger (Leonel Miranda 59), Cristian Maidana (Boniek Garcia 58), Giles Barnes - Will Bruin (Erick Torres 59). TEAM NEWS The Dynamo suffered their fourth loss in the last five matches, and their sixth out of the last eight (dating back to March 19), with the loss to San Jose. It was also a fifth loss in five away matches for the Dynamo this season, the only team in MLS this season without a point on their travels. The Dynamo have not won on the road for their last 13 matches, dating back to July 18 of last year, the second-longest road winless run in club history (longest: 15 games, March 25-Sept. 14, 2011). They battled away, Dynamo head coach Owen Coyle said. They showed a lot of spirit at 3-1, because it s easy for you to feel sorry for yourself and that becomes four or five [goals allowed]. Ricardo Clark scored the lone Dynamo goal, his second of the season, his first since March 12. Clark has scored at least one goal in each of his 11 MLS seasons; he recorded a single-season career-high eight goals a year ago. Tyler Deric made his third start of the season and was sent off for a second time (also shown a red card after 18 minutes of the April 23 match vs. Columbus). Deric has started three of the last four matches in goal. Jalil Anibaba went in between the posts for the final 11 minutes, as the Dynamo had used all three available substitutes. Anibaba became the 11th outfield player in MLS history and the second in as many weeks to step in between the posts during a game. It was just a reaction, Anibaba said. We were all trying to do what we could to get ourselves back in the game. There was nothing more to it than that. The Dynamo conceded three goals, their fourth game allowing three goals or more in 10 starts this season. The Dynamo have allowed 19 goals on the season, tied for third-most in MLS; their 1.90 goals against average is the highest in the league thus far. Just learn from our mistakes, Anibaba said. I ve always said that letting in goals is a collective thing, collective breakdowns, not just the back line, goalkeeper or just one player. If you look at all the goals we ve given up, it s not just one person. As long as we understand that and take it upon ourselves to improve from a defensive standpoint, we can always turn it around. REAL SALT LAKE Real Salt Lake suffered their second defeat in their last three matches, falling 1-0 to the Colorado Rapids on Saturday evening at Dick s Sporting Goods Park. Real are in a tie for third place in the Western Conference with 17 points from 9 games. LAST MATCH The game's lone goal came some 90 seconds into the second half. Put through into the area, Rapids striker Kevin Doyle cut a ball back into the path of Jermaine Jones, who ripped a first-time strike past Real goalkeeper Nick Rimando. Colorado goalkeeper Zac MacMath was credited with five saves in keeping the clean sheet for the home side. RSL head coach Jeff Cassar made one change to the team that defeated the Houston Dynamo 2-1 at Rio Tinto Stadium. Jamison Olave returned to the back four for Aaron Maund. REAL SALT LAKE ( ): Nick Rimando - Tony Beltran, Jamison Olave (Devon Sandoval 85), Justen Glad, Demar Phillips - Javier Morales - Sunday Stephen (Luke Mulholland 58), Kyle Beckerman - Juan Manuel Martinez, Yura Movsisyan, Jordan Allen (Joao Plata 58). TEAM NEWS Real suffered their second defeat in the last three matches, their only two losses on the campaign after opening with a six-game undefeated run, in the 1-0 loss at Colorado. We turned the ball over in core areas which led to us retreating back to the goal. You never want that, RSL head coach Jeff Cassar said. With that being said, I feel like a draw on the night was more accurate. I didn t MLS GAME INFORMATION

feel like they were the better team, they just put away their chance and we didn t. It was a hard-fought game. It was first-place teams battling it out, and we lost. Real were shut out at the attacking end for the first time this season, after scoring two goals in six of their eight games on the year. Just two teams in MLS remain having scored in each of their games this season (Orlando City, Portland). I think it was there for us. I had a couple of good chances myself, I should ve buried the one. Their keeper made some good saves as well, so give credit to them and Zac [MacMath], said midfielder Kyle Beckerman. It was a hard-fought game, and it could ve gone either way. We were just on the wrong side. Joao Plata made his return to action after missing the last two matches through injury, coming on for the final 32 minutes as a substitute. Plata was held without a goal and/or an assist for the first time in his seven appearances this season. I thought [Plata] gave us a big spark, Cassar said. We were planning on bringing him in to have that spark; we just didn t want to have to do it down 1-0. His movement caused some problems tonight. The Colorado match started a string of five consecutive games away from Rio Tinto Stadium for RSL, with their next home game set for June 18. Real have won all four of their home starts this season, one of two teams still in MLS with a perfect home record (Colorado, 5-0-0). It s a disappointment. We wanted to start off this road trip with some points, but I think that the important thing is that especially in the second half we showed so much fight and the belief to win was there, and we never gave up, said defender Tony Beltran. So even though we walk out of here with nothing, we have to respond really quickly because it s going to be a rough stretch. MLS GAME INFORMATION

2016 GAME NOTES GAME 11 HOUSTON DYNAMO (2-6-2; 8 pts.) vs. REAL SALT LAKE (5-2-2; 17 pts.) Saturday, May 14, :30 PM CDT BBVA Compass Stadium (22,000) Houston, Texas DYNAMO FACE REAL SALT LAKE ON FIRST RESPONDERS APPRECIATION NIGHT PRES. BY MUSTANG CAT The Houston Dynamo will try to bounce back from defeat as they host Real Salt Lake on Saturday at BBVA Compass Stadium on First Responders Appreciation Night presented by Mustang CAT. Following the Dynamo game, the annual "Guns & Hoses" charity soccer match between Houston Police and Houston Fire will take place on the field. The Dynamo were tied 1-1 at halftime following MF Ricardo Clark's impressive 25- yard equalizer, but the San Jose Earthquakes scored twice in the second half for a 3-1 win Wednesday at Avaya Stadium. Panama national team MF Alberto Quintero scored twice and added an assist and MF Anibal Godoy scored the other for San Jose. Dynamo GK Tyler Deric was ejected in the 79th minute for fouling FW Simon Dawkins outside the penalty area after Deric was unable to clear a through ball. D Jalil Anibaba was forced to play goalkeeper for the first time in his professional career as the Dynamo were out of substitutes. In his postgame press conference, head coach Owen Coyle offered disappointment in the performance. "Obviously we went behind two minutes or so in and then gradually in the first half found our way back into the game... Dominic (Kinnear) will be delighted from his point of view in terms of the (second) goal they scored but for us it was avoidable. A couple simple one-twos and they were in the back...and then we had to get back in the game. And the third goal I thought initially it was a foul on Alex Lima and then we had three or four opportunities to clear the ball. A few boys slipped...i do think San Jose was more competitive and deserved the three points. We ve got no argument with that." Overall, the Dynamo are against Real Salt Lake, including an mark in home games. 17 2016 GAME NOTES GAME 11 THE LAST TIME THEY MET SANDY, Utah (April 30, 2016) Real Salt Lake came from behind in the second half to earn a 2-1 victory over the Houston Dynamo. The win feeds Salt Lake's red hot start, while the loss for Houston continues a disappointing beginning to the season. The Dynamo got on the score sheet first when Giles Barnes reset a play in the penalty area and found Leonel Miranda at the top of the eighteen. Miranda's shot took a deflection off Jamison Olave's arm, and Nick Rimando never had a chance to get there. Salt Lake roared back with an equalizer and the go ahead goal in quick succession. Justen Glad picked up his first career assist with a nice turn at the top of the penalty area to feed Jordan Allen for a rocket for his second career goal and the equalizer. Eight minutes later, RSL turned possession into a great team goal ending the sequence with Demar Phillips sending a great low cross into the penalty area from the wing that Yura Movsisyan slid into. Goalkeeper Nick Rimando kept the lead with a stunning double-save, first stopping Miranda with a dive far to his left, then blocking Andrew Wenger s second effort from six yards. -Josie Becker, MLSsoccer.com Real Salt Lake (5-1-2, 17 points) vs. Houston Dynamo (1-5-2, 5 points) April 30, 2016 Rio Tinto Stadium Sandy, Utah Scoring Summary: HOU: Leonel Miranda 1 (Giles Barnes 1) 54 RSL: Jordan Allen 1 (Justen Glad 2) 62 RSL: Yura Movsisyan 2 (Demar Phillips 1, Jordan Allen 1) 70 Houston Dynamo: Joe Willis; Sheanon Williams, Raúl Rodríguez, Agus García, DaMarcus Beasley (Cristian Maidana 83); Collen Warner (Will Bruin 75); Andrew Wenger, Ricardo Clark, Boniek García (Erick Torres 83), Leonel Miranda; Giles Barnes Real Salt Lake: Nick Rimando, Tony Beltran, Justin Glad, Aaron Maund (Jamison Olave 36), Demar Phillips; Sunny (Luke Mulholland 85), Kyle Beckerman, Javier Morales; Juan Martinez (Devon Sandoval 88), Yura Movsisyan, Jordan Allen HOUSTON METHODIST INJURY REPORT *Report as of May 9 None. Tonight is the second game within a club-record five-game road stretch for Real Salt Lake as it renovates the field at Rio Tinto Stadium. Real Salt Lake has 17 points after only nine games (5-2-2) and its 1.89 points per game average is second-best in MLS. Ecuadorian forward Joao Plata won MLS Player of the Month in March and has tallied four goals and four assists in seven appearances. Argentine playmaker Javier Morales, a two-time MLS All-Star, is now 36 years old and led MLS in chances created last season and was named Real Salt Lake MVP with eight goals and 12 assists. Another RSL midfield stalwart is Kyle Beckerman, the all-time MLS leader in games played by a field player (387 regular season appearances). Beckerman, a seven-time MLS All-Star and 17-year veteran, has 51 caps for United States, including three starts at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The RSL attack also includes former Boca Juniors player Juan Burrito Martinez, who two goals and two assists this season. Movsisyan, an Armenia international, scored the game-winner against the Dynamo on April 30 and is back in Utah after time with Russian giants Spartak Moscow. Nick Rimando is in his 16th MLS season and has set a league record with 125 shutouts and is second all-time with 402 regular-season starts and 176 wins. Owen Coyle on Real Salt Lake: We saw what we expected to see from them (in a 2-1 loss at Real Salt Lake on April 30). They brought (Yura) Movsisyan in as a DP and they ve added different pieces, with Sunny coming into the midfield and Chris Wingert in at fullback. We know about their front three Movsisyan, (Joao) Plata and Burrito (Martinez), who was signed at a decent cost in the second half of last season and they have good defensive players. But we know when we look back at that game that s not one we should have left with zero points. We have to make sure we replicate a lot of the performance and do it for the duration of the match. They are very dangerous on the counterattack and their attacking players are capable of popping up in different areas, coming off the wing and dropping inside. We are playing a bit of catch up and we have to make sure when those home games come about that we capitalize on them and pick up the valuable three points."

2016 GAME NOTES GAME 11 CLARK, WENGER 10 FOR 10 Dynamo midfielders Ricardo Clark and Andrew Wenger are the only two players to start all 10 games this season. Clark leads Houston with 861 total minutes (900 maximum) while Wenger is tied for the team lead in goals (3) and assists (2) and leads the Dynamo in shots (19) and shots on goal (10). FIRST RESPONDERS APPRECIATION NIGHT Saturday is First Responders Appreciation Night, presented by MustangCAT. The Dynamo will honor current and former first responders tonight at BBVA Compass Stadium. Select police and fire representatives will face off in a postgame Guns and Hoses match following the game. A portion of all tickets purchased for the initiative will benefit Assist the Officer and Firefighters Helping Fire Fighters. DYNAMO WINLESS IN ONE-GOAL GAMES The Dynamo have struggled in close games and late in games this season. Houston is winless in one-goal games (0-4) and has been unable to hold second-half leads in four games this season, including the 2-1 loss at Real Salt Lake on April 30. The Dynamo did protect a 2-0 lead in Saturday's win over Sporting Kansas City. Here are some notes on Houston's missed opportunties this season. "We scored two wonderful goals, I mean Erick (Torres) had a fantastic assist for Giles, and he has been patient waiting on his chance and we were delighted to give him that opportunity tonight," Dynamo head coach Owen Coyle said after the game. "We knew, because he had been training hard, but you always know when you start games like that you are probably going to get 55 or 60 minutes (in his first start of the season). We were delighted with his contribution and he worked ever so hard and it s a boost for Erick and it s a boost for us and everybody at the club." More Coyle on Torres: "We are delighted for Erick to get his feet on the field and get about and the more he gets of that the better he ll be moving forward. He obviously has an Olympics to look forward to (in August) with Mexico as well, so it is terrific for him. He s worked very hard to get himself in good shape. You ll see know he is in far better condition physically and mentally than he was when he arrived last year, and that s great for him moving forward."

2016 GAME NOTES GAME 11 ALEX COMFORTABLE IN HOUSTON CLIMATE Dynamo midfielder Alex Lima welcomes the sunbeams and humid air that greet him every morning at Houston Sports Park after enduring the frigid air of Chicago and Switzerland for six years before arriving in the Bayou City. I love the weather here, when I have time I will spend the night in Galveston. I enjoy visiting the beach, because the weather is very similar to Brazil s so I feel at ease here, Alex said. I can go out and go about my business. In Chicago, it was just too cold to really do anything. Here, you can enjoy time outside and enjoy the city throughout the year. Alex, 27, has also integrated well with the Dynamo in the 12 months since his trade from Chicago. The versatile midfielder was in Owen Coyle s starting XI on opening day and has started every match for which he was available, and scored a wonderful goal at New York on March 19. The midfielder still speaks highly of his time in Chicago and remains close with a family friend he met at a local restaurant. Alex would frequently order dinner from a mom and pop taqueria and one evening he met a family that was visiting the owners. That family lives in Houston and after Alex was traded to the Dynamo he reached out to them for advice on where to live and what to expect from his new home. That was the first call I made after I learned I would play in Houston. Now, we often have dinner together and I hang out with everyone, the kids, the parents, we play video games and we watch soccer on TV, the São Paulo native said. We also visit Galveston and take other trips that bring us together and provide that family atmosphere for me. We often play FIFA, I don t watch too much TV unless there is a game on, it is usually a game from Liga MX since the family is Mexican. I enjoy the time I spend with them. someone from such a different background. That s good though, you want to explore other cultures and combine the best of both worlds. The midfielder is exposed to various cultures in the locker room with a European head coach and teammates from Africa, Central and South America. You have a lot of natural rivalries in the locker room. I m Brazilian and I play with Argentines and there is just a natural rivalry there. Then you add the Mexican, Honduran and other international players. We always chat about international fixtures and since Brazil hasn t done well recently I get a few jabs here and there, Alex said. I remind them that we ve won the World Cup five times and that instantly changes the direction of the conversation. The midfielder adds that he connects well with players from South America due to the similar language and customs but he values all of his teammates since they are all linked by their profession and goals to win a title with the club. I believe that everyone goes on the pitch to fulfill a role. I don t think you have friends on the pitch rather professionals who have a job, the midfielder said. The dynamic is good, it helps when you work with someone who speaks a similar langue, in this case Spanish. It definitely helps but for me, I want to do my job with everyone out there. That could be with the Argentines, Europeans, anyone that wears the same kit. I want to be successful and I know I that it will take a team effort to achieve that. (The full edition of this story appears in the April edition of the Forever Orange matchday magazine. Alex s wife, Alexandra Yancy, is currently in Switzerland and works in Zurich. She lives with her daughter who was born in Dallas. Alex maneuvers through the challenges of a long distance relationship with the help of modern technology and hosts them as often as he can while his stepdaughter is on summer vacation. When I first met my wife she knew that I was a professional soccer player, so she knew that I would have to move to a new city and at that time I was moving to Chicago and then to Houston, Alex said. We are aware that tomorrow I may be somewhere else so she understood that. We talk every day and do our best to feel like a family. You have to play with the cards life gives you. The midfielder was dealt a hand he couldn t imagine as a child in Brazil. Alex knew he wanted to pursue a career in soccer but didn t expect to find his wife in Switzerland or connect with a Houston family he met at a restaurant in Chicago. Every time I go home, something reminds me of my childhood. I keep in touch with my friends and do my best to keep in touch with everyone back home. I miss Brazil from time to time but that s life, the midfielder said. Now, I m married to someone from Switzerland. The culture is different and I never thought I would marry

2016 GAME NOTES GAME 11 HOUSTON RATED NO. 2 SOCCER MARKET IN AMERICA Houston has a large and loyal soccer fan base, not only for the Dynamo, but for teams around the world. In fact, in March the well-respected soccer marketing organization Gilt Edge Soccer Marketing conducted a study which rated Space City as the No. 2 soccer market in America. The methodology utilized to develop the study was specifically created to consider a broad range of factors addressing all the different types of soccer fan and soccer interests that exist in the U.S. Collectively a total of 22 different data sets were evaluated and provided via independent sources including: Scarborough, Google, Facebook, Twitter, FoxSoccer.com, MLS, US Soccer, MLS, NASL, NWSL, and USL. The study assessed fans consumption of soccer across five areas: playing, watching, attending, conversing and searching. With the Dynamo, the Dash of NWSL and a 70,000-seat NFL stadium in town that has hosted multiple major international matches and will soon host three matches in the Copa America Centenario, Houston ranks well across many categories including aggregate attendance (5th) and overall Scarborough attendance (6th). Facebook keyword activity is notably strong with Major League Soccer (5th), Liga MX (2nd), Mexican National Team (4th), and UEFA Champions League (5th). A 6th place ranking for Scarborough soccer television viewership also helped to round out an impressive showing for Houston. UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT After spending their first decade under the auspices of Anschutz Entertainment Group, the Houston Dynamo are under new leadership in Friday's match marked the first time the Dynamo have faced LA Galaxy without the two clubs existing under the same ownership umbrella. A group led by Gabriel Brener, CEO of Brener International Group, LLC, acquired AEG s interests in the Dynamo, the NWSL s Houston Dash and BBVA Compass Stadium on Dec. 15, the 10th anniversary of the team s arrival in Houston on Dec. 15, Having served as a minority owner of the Dynamo since 2008, Brener, a native of Mexico and successful entrepreneur, will lead the ownership group comprised of three other investors: Oscar De La Hoya, also currently a minority partner of the club, as well as Portland-based investor Jake Silverstein and Houston businessman Ben Guill. Brener is the only Mexican-born owner of a professional sports franchise in America. O CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN With the departure of original Dynamo and team captain Brad Davis via trade in January, Houston found itself in need of a player to wear the armband on a permanent basis in Enter MF Giles Barnes. Barnes was named captain by head coach Owen Coyle prior to the season opener vs. New England on March 6, but the Jamaia international made it a point to emphasize that leadership in the dressing room is not the sole responsibility of any one player. For me, it s an honor to be able to lead this team, and for the franchise, the coaches, the other staff to put their trust in me to lead the team, Barnes told HoustonDynamo.com. But I can t do it without my teammates, so there s going to be 28 captains out there because we all have exactly the same goal and so everyone has to be pulling in the same direction.

A native of Paisley, Scotland, Coyle earned his first full managerial post with St. Johnstone of the Scottish First Division in April In , Coyle led St. Johnstone to the semifinals of both the Scottish Cup and the Scottish League Cup. Coyle took the Saints to the brink of promotion to the Scottish Premier League in both 2006 and 2007, finishing as runners-up both years. Coyle took charge at English Championship side Burnley F.C. in November 2007 and led the squad to its highest points total in eight years. The following year, the Scotsman took Burnley to the League Cup semifinals, knocking out Premier League clubs Fulham, Chelsea and Arsenal on their way. The same season, Coyle took the Clarets to the Premier League themselves after winning the promotion playoff final 1-0 over Sheffield United at Wembley Stadium. The victory marked a return to the top flight for Burnley after a 33-year absence, and just two seasons removed from flirting with relegation at the bottom half of the Championship. Upon their arrival in the Premiership in 2009, Coyle led the Clarets to victories in each of their first four home matches, including a 1-0 opening day win against defending champions Manchester United. One of Coyle s former clubs from his playing days, Bolton Wanderers, took an eye to his success at Burnley and tabbed him as their manager in January Coyle s first signing for Bolton was former Dynamo star Stuart Holden, who was named the club s Player of the Year after his first full season in He signed another American, Tim Ream, in January Coyle also managed Arsenal s Jack Wilshere and Chelsea s Daniel Sturridge on loan spells during his time with Bolton. Bolton struggled in the next season and finished in 18th place, ending their time in the Premier League. Coyle and Bolton had up-and-down start to the Championship season, resulting in Coyle being relieved of his duties in October of Coyle joined Wigan Athletic in June 2013 and had mixed results in the first half of the Championship, but a run of four defeats and disagreements with the owner led to his leaving the post in December As a player, Coyle scored 297 goals in over 600 appearances in Scotland and England. He began his career with Dumbarton in 1985, then made moves to Clydebank and Airdrieonians before landing with Bolton. There, he was part of the squad that won promotion to the Premier League in From Bolton, Coyle made stops at Dundee United, Motherwell, Dunfermline Athletic and a return trip at Airdrieonians.
