3 LA GALAXY vs SEATTLE SOUNDERS FC STUBHUB CENTER, Carson, Calif. April 12, 2015 (WEEK 6, MLS Game #55) 4 p.m. PT (FS1; FOX Deportes) One of the hottest rivalries in recent seasons is renewed when the LA Galaxy play host to Seattle Sounders FC on Sunday afternoon at StubHub Center before a FOX Sports 1 audience. The Galaxy return home coming off back-toback losses, their last match a 2-0 defeat at Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Sounders FC returned to their winning ways in their last contest, a 1-0 victory against the Houston Dynamo at CenturyLink Field. REFEREE: Mark Geiger. The teams met three times in the regular season a year ago, each winning once with one draw, the Sounders FC victory in the season finale at Seattle securing that club s first Supporters Shield. Sounders FC have not won at the Galaxy since 2009, now nine trips in league and MLS Cup play without a win. Coaches record: Bruce Arena vs. SEA: P15 W6 L4 D5 Sigi Schmid vs. LA: P21 W7 L7 D7 LA GALAXY The LA Galaxy went down to their second defeat in as many matches, falling 2-0 to Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday evening at BC Place. The Galaxy are in a tie for eighth place in the Western Conference with 5 points from 5 matches. LAST MATCH Whitecaps FC took the lead in the 56th minute on the counterattack. Pedro Morales played a sublime pass through to Kekuta Manneh, who hared forward into the penalty area and drilled the ball past LA goalkeeper Jaime Penedo. The 'Caps doubled their lead in the 66th minute. Nicolas Mezquida played a nice takeover in the left side of the area with Octavio Rivero, and charged to the byeline before firing a shot towards goal. Penedo could only parry the ball into the path of Rivero, who poked home the rebound from close range. Whitecaps FC goalkeeper David Ousted was called upon to make just one save in extending his club's winning run to record proportions. Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena made five changes to the team that suffered a late 1-0 loss to D.C. United at RFK Stadium. Jaime Penedo returned between the posts in place of Brian Rowe, Tommy Meyer and Todd Dunivant started in the back four for Leonardo and Robbie Rogers, and Gyasi Zardes and Robbie Keane returned as the first-choice strike pair in place of Jose Villarreal and Alan Gordon. LA GALAXY (4-4-2): Jaime Penedo - A.J. DeLaGarza, Omar Gonzalez, Tommy Meyer (Alan Gordon 78), Todd Dunivant (Edson Buddle 64) - Stefan Ishizaki, Juninho, Mika Vayrynen (Robbie Rogers 40), Baggio Husidic - Gyasi Zardes, Robbie Keane. TEAM NEWS The Galaxy saw their overall winless streak stretched to four matches with the second consecutive defeat. MLS GAME INFORMATION

4 We have no excuses, Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena said. We were soundly beat over 90 minutes. They out-competed us from the start, and, as a starting point, if you don't have the battle in you, the right kind of [drive to be] competing in a game, you have no chance. The Galaxy have been shut out in back-to-back league matches for the first time since the 2012 season (0-2 at Seattle on May 2; 0-1 vs. New York Red Bulls on May 5). They have not scored in their last 267 minutes of play, the third-longest streak in MLS this season. To be honest we re one of those teams, we have a lot of veteran players. Last year I think we even started out worse than this year, said Gyasi Zardes. It s a long season and we re going to move and stride forward. I feel OK with the team coming forward. Added Robbie Keane: It seems to happen to us a lot at the start of the season. Start off very, very slow and then end up kicking on and then winning it. Hopefully that will be the case again. The Galaxy saw their league road winless streak extended to seven games (0-4-3) with the loss in Seattle, their last win away from StubHub Center having come last Aug. 20 in a 4-3 victory at Colorado. The Galaxy were also winless in their two away matches last year in the MLS Cup Playoffs. We pride ourselves on having a good road mentality. I think we need to get back to that, said defender Todd Dunivant. [Eight games is] too long. You have to be very clinical on the road, have to take you chances when you get them, and you have to have a good defensive mentality. I think for the most part, we have. It's still shutting it down for the whole game, for the whole 90 minutes, having that concentration. There were two changes in the back four as both Tommy Meyer and Dunivant made their first starts of the season. Robbie Rogers was kept out of the starting lineup for the first time this season, but came on just before halftime when Mika Vayrynen suffered an injury. Rogers came into a wide left midfield role as Baggio Husidic pushed inside; Rogers had started the first four matches at left back. We got beat in every aspect of the game, Arena said. There's no area we can feel good about.... Can't take anything good [from this]. Maybe, personally, every player can look at their performance and make sure that it doesn't happen again. SEATTLE SOUNDERS FC Seattle Sounders FC put an end to their quick two-game winless run, getting the game s lone goal for a victory against the Houston Dynamo on Saturday evening at CenturyLink Field. Sounders FC are in fifth place in the Western Conference with 7 points from 4 matches. LAST MATCH The game's lone goal came in the 39th minute. Clint Dempsey took a pass in the midfield and in turn found a streaking Obafemi Martins racing into the box. He then spun around Dynamo center back Jermaine Taylor, before applying the decisive finish minutes past goalkeeper Tyler Deric. Sounders FC ended the match a man down when Gonzalo Pineda was shown a straight red card in the 56th minute by referee Ted Unkel after catching Dynamo midfielder Ricardo Clark in the stomach with a high boot. But the home side was able to see out the final half-hour. Sounders FC head coach Sigi Schmid made five changes to the team that reached a scoreless draw with FC Dallas at Toyota Stadium. Chad Marshall and Dylan Remick came into the back four, Osvaldo Alonso started in midfield and Clint Dempsey and Obafemi Martins returned as the strike partnership, replacing Zach Scott, Leo Gonzalez, Micheal Azira, Cristian Roldan and Chad Barrett. SEATTLE SOUNDERS FC (4-4-2): Stefan Frei - Tyrone Mears, Brad Evans, Chad Marshall, Dylan Remick - Andy Rose, Osvaldo Alonso (Zach Scott 73), Gonzalo Pineda (sent off 56), Lamar Neagle (Micheal Azira 60) - Clint Dempsey (Leo Gonzalez 87), Obafemi Martins. TEAM NEWS Sounders FC won for the first time since their season-opening victory against New England, coming off a loss and a draw in their previous two games. It was a workmanlike effort, Seattle head coach Sigi Schmid said. And we re never going to apologize for three points. Obafemi Martins made it three goals from three matches and Clint Dempsey made it three goals and two assists from his three games, combining for the lone Seattle goal. Martins and Dempsey have been in on all six Sounders FC goals this season. Dylan Remick made his first start of the season, coming in on the left of the back four a formation that changed following Pineda s sending off. We decided to stay with the five in the back and allow [Tyrone] Mears and [Dylan] Remick to be able to push out wider when [Houston] sent their outside backs forward, so that was the idea behind [the 5-3-1], Schmid said. I thought it made us solid in the air when the crosses did come. MLS GAME INFORMATION

5 Said Remick: "It s one of those things where you just take it as it comes. Everyone s played five at the back, three in the back, so it s not that big of a deal. It doesn t really change your role. We re just trying to keep the ball out of our net, especially with 10 men. Osvaldo Alonso made his first appearance of the season following a groin injury, starting and playing the first 73 minutes. I m happy. It s been a long time since I ve played. To win this game, even with 10 men, I feel so happy. I can t describe this moment for me, said Alonso. Added Schmid: Ozzie has such good instincts when he sits deep in midfield. He reads the play really well, and he is quick to anticipate and react. In the second half, even when he was running out of gas, he almost got a goal. Dempsey returned to the lineup after missing both U.S. national team games following a hamstring injury suffered in preparation for the Switzerland friendly. Martins also returned to the lineup after missing the FC Dallas match because of a quadriceps injury suffered in the friendly vs. Club Tijuana. We always look forward to being able to choose from the whole group, Schmid said. I think the young players have done well, and they ll continue to push, and that makes our other players better also. But, yeah, [I m] looking forward to being able to pick from a complete squad. MLS GAME INFORMATION
