3 MLS GAME INFORMATION TORONTO FC vs CHICAGO FIRE BMO FIELD, Toronto, Ont. July 9, 2016 (WEEK 18, MLS Game #178) 7:30 p.m. ET (TSN4; CSN-Chi) A critical match in the Eastern Conference kicks off Saturday evening when Toronto FC meet the Chicago Fire at BMO Field. Toronto FC enter the match right on the red line, tied for sixth place in the Eastern Conference after going a second league game without a win in their 1-1 home draw with Seattle Sounders FC last weekend. The Fire sit at the foot of the East table, six points out of a playoff spot, snapping a two-game losing slide with a 1-0 win against the San Jose Earthquakes in their return to Toyota Park last Friday evening. When Toronto FC won at BMO Field on Sept. 26, it was their win against the Fire since the 2010 season, when they won 4-1 on May 8 at BMO Field. The Fire had won six of the 12 meetings in between, with six draws. The Fire have never lost to TFC at Toyota Park, with five wins and five draws in 10 meetings all-time in Bridgeview, including the win there last April 4. Coaches record: Greg Vanney vs. CHI: P3 W1 L1 T1 Veljko Paunovic vs. TOR: first game TORONTO FC Toronto FC went a second consecutive game without a win, Seattle Sounders hitting back for a 1-1 draw Saturday evening at BMO Field. TFC are in a tie for sixth place in the Eastern Conference with 20 points from 16 games. LAST MATCH The two sides traded goals a minute apart in the second half. Toronto FC opened the scoring at the hour mark, when Jordan Hamilton knocked in a rebound after Sounders FC goalkeeper Stefan Frei came well off his line to parry a Sebastian Giovinco effort. But Sounders FC leveled terms just more than 60 seconds later, Jordan Morris taking a long pass in the area from Joevin Jones, cutting back to put two defenders out of the play, then curling a right-footed effort in off the right-hand post. TFC head coach Greg Vanney made seven changes to the team that fell 3-2 to Orlando City SC at Camping World Stadium. Only Nick Hagglund, Tsubasa Endoh, Jordan Hamilton and Sebastian Giovinco maintained their places in the team. TORONTO FC ( ): Alex Bono - Eriq Zavaleta (Raheem Edwards 88), Damien Perquis, Nick Hagglund - Steven Beitashour, Marky Delgado, Mark Bloom - Tsubasa Endoh (Benoit Cheyrou 77), Jay Chapman (Jonathan Osorio 70) - Jordan Hamilton, Sebastian Giovinco. TEAM NEWS Toronto FC did extend their undefeated streak at BMO Field to four league matches with three draws in that time with the result against Sounders FC. We had loads of chances. The first half especially, we had a lot of good looks, said TFC head coach Greg Vanney. We've got to come out of that half with something. Added Sebastian Giovinco: We lost two points. We created a lot [of chances], even if we didn't score them all, but we have to look ahead, think about our next game.

4 Jordan Hamilton scored for a second consecutive game, after scoring his first career MLS goal the week prior, making his seventh career league appearance. Hamilton was making a third consecutive start, his first three career MLS starts. Mark Bloom made his first league appearance of the season, coming into a wide midfield role and playing the full 90 minutes. It was Bloom s first appearance in an MLS game since the final game of the 2014 season. It was a great experience for me, being out for so long, just the road to recovery, all the work I put in on the training ground in the gym all that stuff, said Bloom. And then finally have it culminate in 90 minutes is a surreal experience for me and just thinking back on how long it has been but once I got out there it felt like I never stopped so It kind of came back right away. I felt comfortable out there, it was a big step to build on. Jay Chapman returned to the starting lineup for the first time since May 21, coming into an attacking midfield role and playing 70 minutes. Alex Bono made his first career MLS start, credited with making a single save, after making his MLS debut the week before as a substitute for the injured Clint Irwin. TFC received an injury blow when Michael Bradley was ruled out for up to six weeks when he suffered a knee sprain in the third-place match of Copa América. There was another significant injury blow when Will Johnson was ruled out for up to six weeks after suffering a tibial plateau fracture in the second leg of the Canadian Championship final. Raheem Edwards also made his MLS debut, coming on as a substitute in the 88th minute after he was made an emergency call-up from USL Toronto FC II. Over the course of the last 15 days we ve played five games, every single player on our roster including Raheem got playing time, said Vanney. We got Mark Bloom back into the mix who hasn t played a game in 18 months with the first team. I couldn t be more proud of the group, the depth and the effort that they have put forth over the last 15 days. CHICAGO FIRE The Chicago Fire put an end to their two-game losing slide, defeating the San Jose Earthquakes 1-0 on Friday evening at Toyota Park. The Fire are in 10th place in the Eastern Conference with 14 points from 15 games. LAST MATCH The game's lone goal came in the 58th minute. John Goossens found the back of the net when he tracked down a clearance and fired a venomous low shot from outside the penalty area that beat Earthquakes goalkeeper David Bingham to the near post. Fire goalkeeper Sean Johnson was credited with two saves in keeping the clean sheet. Bingham made six saves despite the loss. Fire manager Veljko Paunovic made three changes to the team that fell 4-3 to Philadelphia Union at Talen Energy Stadium. Rodrigo Ramos, Joao Meira and John Goossens all came into the team, replacing Eric Gehrig, Michael Harrington and Razvan Cocis. CHICAGO FIRE ( ): Sean Johnson - Rodrigo Ramos (Michael Harrington 79), Johan Kappelhof, Jonathan Campbell, Brandon Vincent - Joao Meira - Michael Stephens, Khaly Thiam (Razvan Cocis 73) - John Goossens (Nick LaBrocca 79), Kennedy Igboananike, David Accam. TEAM NEWS The Fire put an end to a two-game losing slide and a three-game winless run with the win against the Quakes, their first in league play since May 21. The Fire also have a four-game undefeated run alive at Toyota Park, with two wins and two draws in that time. The Fire head to Toronto with their all-time MLS-record road winless streak sitting at 32 games, dating back to July We have to keep in mind, next week we have to recover and prepare for the next game. We need another win, that's our message. And the job is not done. It's just starting actually. We have to take advantage of this momentum, of this great spirit that we created in the last two games, said Fire head coach Veljko Paunovic. Sean Johnson made a sixth consecutive start between the posts, recording a second shutout. Both of his shutouts this season have ended in 1-0 victories. John Goossens scored his first MLS goal, making his first start since April 16, coming into a place on the Fire s three-pronged attack and playing 79 minutes. Goossens first appearance since the April 16 start had come the week before, when he came off the substitutes bench for the final 30 minutes, missing seven league games through injury. He's not only the one who scored the goal, but he played a great game, together with the rest of the guys," Paunovic said. We believe that John was always a talented player, and he needed an opportunity like this one. I think in a league like MLS, his qualities first as a person, then as a player can really fit very well. Said Goossens: I think it was the perfect time to score. We had a good game, we had a lot of pressure on their back, and at the end I think it was a great evening. I will be more happy once you're back from a long injury. I'm just lucky that it's getting really well right now. MLS GAME INFORMATION

5 Rodrigo Ramos returned to the lineup after coming off the substitutes bench in the Philadelphia match, playing 79 minutes at right back as Paunovic returned to a back four. It's something that we need in our game and more consistently but I would say we were waiting for a game like today where we can see that everything works perfectly. Our defense, our attack, we created chances, we could have scored more goals, the spirit was great, said Paunovic. I think on the other side, you can also see Brandon Vincent doing the same thing as Rodrigo so that commitment to the defense upon defense with two fullbacks who are very adventurous and very talented and they cross the ball but they also play to keep the defense. This is what we need. MLS GAME INFORMATION
