The last Fire victory was a 2-1 win in Columbus, June 22, Crew SC have come away with points in the last four home encounters with the Fire, winning three. The Crew SC victory last year at Toyota Park was their first in Bridgeview since the 2006 season. The Fire had gone in the 13 meetings in between. Coaches record: Veljko Paunovic vs. CLB: first game Gregg Berhalter vs. CHI: P5 W3 L0 T2 CHICAGO FIRE The Chicago Fire gained their first standings point of the season in their first road match, playing to a 1-1 draw with Orlando City SC on Friday evening at the Citrus Bowl. The Fire are in a tie for seventh place in the Eastern Conference with 1 point from 2 games. LAST MATCH Orlando City SC took the lead after just four minutes when Cyle Larin pulled in a Kevin Molino feed, sidestepped a defender at the top of the box and fired past Fire goalkeeper Matt Lampson. The Fire answered back 10 minutes later when David Accam hit home, streaking behind the defense to collect a long ball from John Goossens and beat Orlando keeper Joe Bendik. The home side played a man up for the final hour after Chicago defender Michael Harrington was sent off for a reckless tackle on Brek Shea in the 32nd minute. Fire manager Veljko Paunovic made two changes to the team that fell 4-3 to New York City FC at Toyota Park. Jonathan Campbell and John Goossens came into the team, replacing Razvan Cocis and Gilberto. CHICAGO FIRE ( ): Matt Lampson - Joao Meira, Jonathan Campbell, Johan Kappelhof - Michael Harrington (ejected 32), Matt Polster, John Goossens (Razvan Cocis 73), Brandon Vincent - Arturo Alvarez (Rodrigo Ramos 87) - Kennedy Igboananike (Joey Calistri 84), David Accam. TEAM NEWS The Fire saw their overall road winless streak extended to 26 games, dating back to July 2014, now the second-longest in MLS history and one game away from the all-time league record (New York Red Bulls, ). We need to work hard and that s what we did. Every ball I had to chase, I did. It paid off. It means a lot because it was our first away game of the season and even when we were a man down, we still believe that we MLS GAME INFORMATION

4 can still get points, said Fire striker David Accam. I think this year we have more quality. I believe we can beat anyone in this league. Accam scored for a second consecutive match, and has scored the last two Fire goals. Accam has been involved in three of the Fire s four goals this season (with one assist). I think David always brings that, Fire head coach Veljko Paunovic said. He has great talent and amazing speed and ability. Today was one of those when he showed us a lot. He has the ability to change a game and always gives his best for the team. Dutch midfielder John Goossens made his Fire and MLS debut, starting in a deeper central midfield role. He recorded his first MLS assist on the lone Chicago goal. Rookie Jonathan Campbell made his first career start, playing in the center of a three-man backline. Campbell made his full professional debut in the season opener, coming on at halftime. There will be a forced change in the Fire team in the Columbus match after Michael Harrington was sent off just after the half-hour, making his second start for the club after coming from Portland in the offseason. It s never easy but we adapted well. There were moments of confusion, who s going to play where. It s not easy to communicate but it was still enough time to adjust, said Paunovic. The guys did very well to adapt to the new system, 4-4-1, to defend and try to play on counter. Especially Kennedy Igboananike who did very well on the left side. We had to stick together and stick to our team spirit and work as a team. The Fire conceded the opening goal after just four minutes, the second consecutive week they ve allowed a goal in the opening quarter-hour. The two goals in the opening 15 minutes are tied for most in MLS this season. It is definitely something that we should really work on coming out defensively strong early. It s not easy to come back from a goal early, but the team showed resilience and we did everything that we could to stay in the game to get a result away from home, down a man for close to 70 minutes, said goalkeeper Matt Lampson. That shows the heart of this team and how hard we work for each other, and that s the reason we got a result today. COLUMBUS CREW SC Columbus Crew SC suffered a second consecutive loss to start the new season, falling 2-1 to Philadelphia Union on Saturday evening at Mapfre Stadium. Crew SC are in a tie for ninth place in the Eastern Conference with 0 points from 2 games. LAST MATCH Union opened the scoring in first half stoppage time when Chris Pontius slotted home a long throw-in that was nicked before reaching him at the top of the box. Pontius then doubled the Philadelphia lead in the 71st minute with a left-footed strike that settled inside Steve Clark's left-hand post. Kei Kamara pulled Columbus within a goal when his 87th-minute header from a corner kick found the back of the net, but the hosts were unable to beat the stellar Andre Blake between the posts again. Crew SC head coach Gregg Berhalter made no changes to the team that falling 2-1 to the Portland Timbers in the season opener at Providence Park. COLUMBUS CREW SC ( ): Steve Clark - Harrison Afful, Michael Parkhurst, Gaston Sauro, Waylon Francis (Mohammed Saeid 74) - Wil Trapp, Tony Tchani - Ethan Finlay (Justin Meram 74), Federico Higuain, Hector Jimenez (Cedrick Mabwati 59) - Kei Kamara. TEAM NEWS Crew SC suffered a second consecutive defeat to open the season, the first time since 2006 the club has lost its opening two games. This is a tough league, and you guys see the results today, and you see what s happening with this league, said Crew SC head coach Gregg Berhalter. You can t predict any results right now. Part of our job is to play our game and what s most disappointing is that in the second half we didn t do that, at all. You re down a goal, but you stick to the program. You keep the ball moving fast, you focus on your spacing and we will get chances. Unfortunately, it went haywire a little bit in the second half. The two-game losing streak matches the longest stretch of defeats for Crew SC last season, which occurred twice. The second Sept. 26-Oct. 3 also started with a defeat by the Portland Timbers. It s two losses in a row and that s not good. In these two games there was some good football, we played over 180 minutes, said Berhalter. But, by and large, we came up short in these two games. We re going to look to improve and get better, to raise individual levels, and focus on our performance. Crew SC have taken an MLS-best 38 attempts at goal through the opening two matches. Eleven of those have been on target, tied for sixth-most in the league. Kei Kamara netted his first goal of the season, heading home in the 87th minute. I think it just starts with us wanting to compete and that comes from within and that s where it has to start. We obviously all know what our responsibilities are and our job, but first and foremost we have to be willing to do the work, said midfielder Ethan Finlay. And like Gregg [Berhalter] said, movement off the ball is work that you MLS GAME INFORMATION

5 don t always get recognized for, but I think throughout the game, as the game went on in the second half before they scored their second [goal] it got a little stagnant. That s something that we usually pride ourselves in, is our movement off the ball and our ball movement, and that just wasn t there. Mohammed Saeid made his season debut, coming on for the final 16 minutes. He recorded his second career MLS assist his first coming in his last league appearance (last Oct. 25 vs. D.C. United). The match at Toyota Park begins a stretch of three away matches for Crew SC, with trips to FC Dallas and Montréal Impact following. We don t view three upcoming road games as, We re in a real bad spot, Michael Parkhurst said. We think we re capable of winning every game that we play, so I m fully confident we ll turn things around. MLS GAME INFORMATION
