3 COLUMBUS CREW SC vs MONTRÉAL IMPACT MAPFRE STADIUM, Columbus, Ohio June 6, 2015 (WEEK 14, MLS Game #140) 7:30 p.m. ET (TWC-OH; TVA) A key contest in the Eastern Conference is ahead as Columbus Crew SC play host to the Montréal Impact at Mapfre Stadium on Saturday evening. Crew SC saw their winless run extended to four games at midweek, dropping a 3-0 decision at Philadelphia Union which left them mid-table in the division. The Impact continued their steady rise up the standings, winning for a third time in four games at midweek with a 2-1 home win against Vancouver Whitecaps FC. REFEREE: Ted Unkel. Crew SC have won all five encounters lifetime in Columbus. The Crew won 2-1 Sept. 14, 2013 at Stade Saputo, the only victory by the away team in nine meetings in the all-time series. Coaches record: Frank Klopas vs. CLB: P11 W7 L4 D0 Gregg Berhalter vs. MTL: P3 W2 L1 D0 COLUMBUS CREW SC Columbus Crew SC had their winless run extended to four matches, crashing to a 3-0 defeat by Philadelphia Union on Wednesday evening at PPL Park. Crew SC are in a tie for fourth place in the Eastern Conference with 16 points from 13 matches. LAST MATCH Union took the lead shortly before halftime. From a counterattack, Maurice Edu started the break and laid the ball off to Cristian Maidana, who slid it into Sebastien Le Toux in the box. Le Toux s cutback pass across the face of the goal then found C.J. Sapong for a tap-in. The lead was doubled in the 52nd minute. After scooping up a ball, Crew SC goalkeeper Steve Clark ran forward in the box to roll the ball out before slipping, losing control of the ball and leaving the net unattended. Vincent Nogueira took advantage of the massive error with a cheeky chip from about 25 yards out that nestled into the net. Six minutes later, Union went up 3-0 when fullback Sheanon Williams made a storming run down the right sideline, combining with Sapong before setting up Le Toux for a close-range finish. Crew SC head coach Gregg Berhalter made five changes to the team that played to a 2-2 tie with Orlando City SC at the Citrus Bowl. Chad Barson, Emanuel Pogatetz and Sergio Campbell all came into the back four for Hector Jimenez, Tyson Wahl and the suspended Michael Parkhurst, Kevan George came into the midfield in place of Tony Tchani, and Aaron Schoenfeld started up top for Kei Kamara. 4 TEAM NEWS Crew SC saw their winless streak extended to four games, the loss at Philadelphia following back-to-back draws. The three goals conceded were a season-high; Crew SC has allowed two goals in each on their previous five matches. They were all over the place and really aggressive. Unfortunately we couldn t match that. Part of it had to do with the opponent and part of it had to do with us losing too many battles. Individually, we didn t win too many matchups on the field, Crew SC boss Gregg Berhalter said to The Columbus Dispatch. Said Aaron Schoenfeld: We need to re-find our identity and our winning mentality. Obviously it s three games now without a win and once we get back at Mapfre Stadium with our fans behind us, we have to re-group and punish teams. Schoenfeld made his first start of the season, playing the full 90 minutes as the lone out-and-out attacker. He had made seven substitute appearances totaling 51 minutes before the Union match. I think it just wasn t our day. We threw away a couple of chances early, so if we take one of those it changes the game up. Once they score that goal, they have some confidence behind them and start moving the ball a lot better, Schoenfeld said. On any given day in this league, any team can win, which is the good thing about this league there s very little disparity between the teams. So if you come out flat, you re going to get punished. Kei Kamara was kept out of the starting lineup for the first time this season, but came on as a substitute for the final 25 minutes. Rookie and first-round SuperDraft selection Sergio Campbell made his full professional debut, playing the full match in central defense. Chad Barson also made his first start of the season, coming in at right back. Barson s last appearance in the first XI for a league match came last July 26 at New England. Definitely not the result we wanted. Three games in a short amount of time all against Eastern Conference teams so obviously very important games for us and it s an opportunity if you get results to move up in the standings, Barson said. I think overall it wasn t terrible, but just a few plays that kind of dug us a hole and it was too difficult to dig ourselves out of. MONTRÉAL IMPACT The Montréal Impact won their third game in a row on their home ground, getting a late winner for a 2-1 win against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Wednesday evening at Stade Saputo. The Impact are in ninth place in the Eastern Conference with 11 points from 9 matches. LAST MATCH The Impact opened the scoring in the 14th minute. A Whitecaps FC defender cleared a cross, but the ball fell for Impact defender Laurent Ciman, whose thunderous volley crashed onto the crossbar and bounced back into play. Jack McInerney was perfectly placed to pounce on the rebound and knock it home. In the 79th minute, Vancouver equalized. Impact midfielder Andres Romero tripped up Jordan Harvey to Evan Bush s right, and referee Armando Villarreal pointed to the spot. Pedro Morales shot to the left while Bush dove the other way for the Whitecaps FC leveler. Just four minutes later, the Impact scored the winner. Substitute Anthony Jackson-Hamel found Romero, who turned toward goal and cut in from the right. Romero slipped a pass inside to Ignacio Piatti, whose shot from close range found the back of the net. Impact head coach Frank Klopas made four changes to the team that dropped a 3-0 decision to the Chicago Fire at Toyota Park. Wandrille Lefevre, Patrice Bernier, Andres Romero and Eric Alexander all came into the team, replacing Nigel Reo-Coker, Bakary Soumare, Dilly Duka and the suspended Marco Donadel. MONTREAL IMPACT ( ): Evan Bush - Ambroise Oyongo, Wandrille Lefevre, Laurent Ciman, Donny Toia - Calum Mallace, Patrice Bernier (Anthony Jackson-Hamel 81) - Andres Romero, Ignacio Piatti, Eric Alexander (Maxim Tissot 63) - Jack McInerney (Nigel Reo-Coker 78). TEAM NEWS The Impact won their third game in their last four starts, all at Stade Saputo, rebounding from a 3-0 defeat at the Chicago Fire the weekend before. It was an important win for us, said Impact head coach Frank Klopas. We were under some pressure at the end of the first half, but in the second, we were able to win more of the 50/50 duels and that helped us regain the momentum. Said goalkeeper Evan Bush: We have a good feeling when we are playing at home. There is always a way to bounce back, regardless of what happened last Saturday, and we did that. We did well with where we drew the line defensively. We didn t get too high and let their fast guys in behind us. Jack McInerney scored his third league goal of the season, his second in the last three matches. McInerney started and played 78 minutes after coming off at halftime at the weekend. MLS GAME INFORMATION

5 Ignacio Piatti scored his third goal of the year in MLS, his second in the last three games, netting the gamewinner. Ambroise Oyongo made his third consecutive start, in a third different position, returning to the back four. Oyongo played right back vs. Vancouver; he played on the left of midfield at the weekend vs. Chicago, after making his first start of the season at left back on May 23 vs. FC Dallas. Wandrille Lefevre made his second league start of the season, his first since March 28, coming into central defense. Eric Alexander made his first start since April 11, coming in on the left side of midfield; he had made four consecutive appearances off the substitutes bench. With Marco Donadel suspended, Patrice Bernier made his second league start of the campaign, his first since April 11. [We need to play] like in the second half, Bernier said. It s not always easy. We don t always have the ball, but we re alert, focused, smart. We didn't give many chances to the other team, and we take advantage of our opportunities. There weren't many chances in the second half, but we came back and scored. On the road, it s never the same. We have to be smarter, more focused and more alert to make sure that it s up to the other team to make mistakes and pounce. MLS GAME INFORMATION
