1 Forza Futbol Club GoalkeepingCurriculum

2 Goalkeeper Club Philosophy Goalkeepers are expected to be willing to learn and create a positive environment for themselves, their team and their fellow goalkeepers to work in. Goalkeepers will be able demonstrate the appropriate attributes from the four corner model for their appropriate age groups. Goalkeepers will be confident and willing to use their feet in fitting with the clubs style of play and philosophy. Goalkeepers must be willing to play out from the back and to receive back passes from their team mates, recognising when to play short or long. All goalkeepers must be determined to succeed and utilise the opportunities which are provided to them by the club. Goalkeepers will be expected to uphold the clubs values, vision and club philosophy.

3 Goalkeeper Specific Training Expectations Goalkeepers will be on time to training to prevent disrupting their coach and fellow goalkeepers. Whenever possible goalkeepers will inform Josh ahead of time that they will be attending, in order to help session planning and equipment needs. Goalkeepers will bring the appropriate equipment for training: Gloves Shin Guards Water Suitable clothing for 3G/Grass Goalkeepers will sign the attendance register before joining in the practice/get a parent to do so. Goalkeepers will be ready to work hard at all times!

4 Goalkeeper Phase 1 (U7-U8)

5 Goalkeeper Phase 1 Overview (U7-U8 s) Within this stage coaches are encouraged to split playing time in the goal between all squad members to ensure that one child doesn t spend the whole game in the goal and so that each member of the team gets an equal experience of being a goalkeeper. Practice time will be split between the following over 6 week blocks: - Basic handling and diving techniques. - Basic footwork with and without the ball. - Hand Eye Co-ordination. - SAQ Exercises (Speed, Agility and Quickness)

7 Goalkeeper Phase 2 Overview (U9-U11) To improve the goalkeepers technical skills through the use of technical practices and ball manipulation exercises. To ensure that all goalkeepers are comfortable handling the ball and with the ball at their feet before moving into Goalkeeper Phase 3 (U12-U15). To ensure that goalkeepers are constantly put in environments where their decision making skills will be tested and improved. To ensure all goalkeepers can perform the necessary techniques required for this phase in both unopposed and opposed situations. All of the above will be tested in a variety of environments, such as technical practices, opposed practices and small sided games.

8 4 Corner Model for Goalkeeper Phase 2 (U9-U11) Technical Physical Basic handling ( W, diving saves, scoop, cup etc) Footwork (both with and without ball) Body Shape Set Position Distribution (kicking out of hands/off floor, under arm throws and over arm throws) Dealing with crosses/high balls (Basic) Tactical Understanding of basic roles and responsibilities. Basic positioning. Agility Balance Co-ordination Psycho-Social Having fun! Communication Relationships with fellow goalkeepers and team mates.

17 Goalkeeper Phase 3 Overview (U12-U15 s) In this phase there will be an increased focused on the goalkeepers tactical understanding of the game, while maintaining and improving the technical ability which has been focused upon during the previous phase. To ensure that all goalkeepers who pass through this phase are technically and tactically competent for their progression into Goalkeeper Phase 4 (U16+). To ensure that all goalkeepers are aware of and understand their roles and responsibilities within their teams formation, strategy and the club philosophy as a whole. To ensure that the practices which goalkeepers encounter in this phase have variety in order to test their ability to the highest level. Practices within this phase will be more demanding on the goalkeepers four corner model technically, tactically, physically and psychosociologically.

27 Goalkeeper Phase 4 Overview (16+) To ensure that all goalkeepers within this phase are highly competent, with a high understanding of their roles and responsibilities within the clubs philosophy and their teams strategy. To ensure that goalkeepers are performing at the highest level they possible can as an individual and within their team, both tactically and technically. To ensure that goalkeepers are taking part in varied practices on a regular basis to test their understanding and ability within their role in fitting with the four corner model for Goalkeeper Phase 4 (16+). To ensure that the practices which goalkeepers take part in within this phase are more demanding than Goalkeeper Phase 3 (12-15) in order to further test the four corner model for Goalkeeper Phase 4 (16+) To ensure that goalkeepers are showing full commitment to their continuing development and recognise the importance of attending every training opportunity available to them.

29 Curriculum (U16+) Goalkeepers will follow a 6 week programme, followed by 1 week for evaluations and specialist functional training with other players before beginning their next 6 week block. The U16+ curriculum will follow the same programme pattern as the U12- U15 phase however the demands and expectations of the goalkeepers within this phase will be of the highest level. Goalkeepers will be expected to make quicker decisions and execute those decisions faster with greater physical ability. Further advanced: 1. Footwork and Handling 2. Diving Saves 3. 36 Example of 6 Week Goalkeeper Evaluation Evaluations will be completed every 6 weeks at the end of each curriculum block, giving the opportunity for goalkeepers to rest/take part in functional training. Evaluations will only be written for those who attend a minimum of 6 sessions over the course of the block.
