1 The Paw Print Times Schley County Middle School - Monthly Newsletter The Month of February is a busy month for Schley County Middle School. One of the most exciting events happening this month is the middle school dance! The dance will take place on February 24 th 2017 in the SCMS lunch room. The 6 th grade dance is from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. The 7 th and 8 th grade dance is from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm. This is a fun night to dress up in your formal clothes. Girls will wear dresses and boys will be decked out in their ties. Friday the 24 th will be like no other, so don t be late! Authors: Makena Wurtz and Kaitlyn Davis Editors: Bryar Speegle, Brooklynn Hester, and Shiriyah Battle
2 Book Review: Harry Potter and The Sorcerer s Stone, by J.K. Rowling, is about a boy named Harry and his first year at The Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. This book is a great start to the seven book series. It is a great book because it is very exciting and leaves you on the edge of your seat with a great twist at the end. My friend said, It s like the first chapter in a good book. I give this classic book a full five stars out of five! Go to your local library and check out the series today! (Ages 9 and up) Author: Dru Grace Editors: Macy Hall, Jason Nguyen, Trinity Brooks, and Trey Harmon Schley County Basketball - Game Review The Schley County boys basketball team had an astonishing game against Taylor County with a final score of Taylor County took the win, but we had a few hyped threes! Schley County is now overall, and 8-7 in the league. Coach Scott, the head coach for the Wildcats, made some great calls and is already preparing for the next game. The Wildcats will play again on February 3 rd at Crawford County. Please come out and support our Wildcats! Author: Ranney Vo Editors: Landon Godwin, Christopher Ricketts, Carter Sinquefield, and Terrion Solomon
3 Valentine s Day As you all know, Valentine s Day is celebrated on the 14 th of February. Valentine s Day is a day to show your loved ones that you care, but did you know the following fun facts? Valentine s Day was originally the Roman feast of Lupercalia. The holiday was renamed in memory of the martyrdom of St. Valentine - around 270 AD. The holiday is now celebrated by the exchange of romantic messages called valentines. Sources: and Authors: Janeria Lyles and Amonni Williams Editors: Zoe Molina and Skylar Stowe Super Bowl LI February 5 th 2017 is Super Bowl Sunday! This is the best game in football. This year, the Atlanta Falcons and New England Patriots are playing each other. This will be Matt Ryan s first Super Bowl and Tom Brady s seventh. Dru Grace thinks the Falcon s will win because of their loaded offense. The offense is packed with great players like Julio Jones, Devonta Freeman, and Matt Ryan. Together, these players make up the best offense in the NFL. Don t miss the game this Sunday. Go Dirty Birds! Authors: Gabe Styck and Dru Grace Editors: Bradley Dean, Demarkis Clark, Justin Richard, and Gage Cox (Matthew Rogers)
4 The Poet s Corner Overwhelmed with bad news? Take a minute to relax and read a collection of poems from our talented sixth grade writers. Music Music is life, Music forever. Playing on and on, Stopping never. Drums, bells, Trumpets, horns. Flutes, cymbals, And so much more! Music is life, Music forever. I love music When I ll stop? Never! Ripples Ripples across the water, Sun casts a tangerine orange. Dusk has fallen upon us, Twilight will soon come. Ripples of somber black, Bright moon shining down. Starlight sparkles, Twinkling Shining. Ripples of the rising sun, Coming again once more. Water as clear as the cobalt sky, Noon, the sun is high. Ripples of the evening light, It s time for night to come. Every day is an endless circle, Like ripples on the water. Author: Macy Hall Editors: Dru Grace, Jason Nguyen, Trinity Brooks, and Trey Harmon Stars! Stars shining bright at night. Putting off a lot of light. Shooting stars across the sky. Soaring way, way up high. Always shining really bright. Creating patterns left and right. They never ever go away. You just can t see them in the light of day. Stars, stars - everywhere. Never forget- they re always there! Author: Makena Wurtz Editors: Mary Thomas Smith, Clinton Jackson, and Brantley Philmon
