Here are the test dates and deadlines for the first semester: SAT October 3 test (September 3 is the deadline to sign up) November 7 test (October 9 is the deadline to sign up) December 5 test (November 5 is the deadline to sign up) ACT October 24 test (September 18 is the deadline to sign up) December 12 test (November 6 is the deadline to sign up) PSAT for 9 th, 10 th, and 11 th graders October 14 test date September 22 is the deadline for students to register. Mrs. Coker and Mrs. Hernandez can help students with almost anything that is interfering with their academic success. Our job is to help students graduate on time and to help prepare them for life after high school. We assist students with academic planning and creating a personal graduation plan. Please see us if you have any academic concerns. Ms. Holland can help students with the entire college application process. These steps include registering for the ACT and SAT, creating an Apply Texas account, helping to find scholarships and applying for financial aid, and helping students research colleges so that they can find the best fit. Ms. Nguyen can help students with problems that are not necessarily school-related, but are causing stress and possibly making school more challenging than it needs to be. I have many resources available to me, so please come see me if you are experiencing any problems that are interfering with your social or emotional well-being, I can probably help. 3 Athletic Center August 27, 2015 Freshman Football The freshmen football team played on Thursday, Aug. 27th, against Castleberry and won Diontae Freeman, Da'Juan Williams, and Quincy Jones stood out offensively and defensively. Congrats guys good job and keep up the work and root on your other team members!!!!!!! W JV Football vs. Country Day LW JV Football lost Friday night but you have to start somewhere there is a very famous quote that I love. Dear lord, in the battles as we go through life, we ask for a chance that's fair, a chance to equal our stride, a chance to do or dare, if we shall win, let it be by the code, with faith and honor held high, if we shall lose, let us stand by the road, and cheer as the winners go by, DAY BY DAY, WE GET BETTER AND BETTER TILL WE CAN'T BE BEAT, WON'T BE BEAT!!!! We have a great group of talented gentlemen keep your heads up and believe in yourself and your teammates have each others backs in all things, and you can conquer all things LAKE WORTH BULLFROGS!!!!!!!! 4 August 19, 2015 Volleyball LW Freshmen volleyball team started slow at Trimble Tech but picked up their momentum in their first set of the year to eventually fell short to TT The lady frogs dominated the second set to win 25-7, to take the Bulldogs to a 3rd game. The lady frogs battled hard and came out on top to win L 25-7 W W LW JV volleyball team was slow to start at Trimble tech tonight. They had a rough time on serve receive. They need to keep working on playing as a team but will get there W W LW varsity Even though we lost in four the varsity played with tremendous fight. They won the second game and barely lost the next two. Huge improvement we are excited for the brewer tournament L W L L Lake Worth High School 4

5 2015 Cheer Camp LWHS Varsity Cheerleaders attended camp at UNT. Being in competition with other schools during camp was a new experience for them and had a very positive impact on their school and team spirit. These young ladies represented their high school very well!! We are extremely proud of their sportsmanship and the awards that they earned. They received the following awards: Herkey Award-Award for true spirit of sportsmanship Superior rating for game time cheer/chant performance Award in Excellence-for jumps Stunt Safe Award-for keeping each other safe during stunts The last 2 awards were individual awards. The NCA staff gave a leadership award to the one young lady who stood out during camp as the best leader of the cheerleaders. This young lady not only led and encouraged her team, but stood out as a leader for other squads as well. She was extremely spirited and had a super positive attitude all through camp. That award went to our very own Jazmin Puryear. Also, during camp NCA staff observed cheerleaders who excelled in all areas and extended them an invitation to tryout for the All American team. Only 12 of the 60 girls were given this invitation. Jazmin Puryear and Mackenzie Molina both had the opportunity to tryout. From the tryouts, only 4 made the All American team...jazmin and Mackenzie were amongst the 4!! It doesn't stop there!! From those 4, 1 girl was awarded THE TOP ALL AMERICAN(the top individual award of camp)...and that was Mackenzie Molina. We are so proud of these young ladies for what they have achieved and how they represented LWHS! Awesome group of young ladies! Lake Worth High School 5

6 CAUGHT DOING IT "WRITE" English Department Introduces the Circle Map Your English Language Arts department has kicked off the school year by introducing the circle map. Shout out to Ms. Ludwick who was caught doing it "write" by using the circle map in her Spanish classes. English 1 students defining "education" And that's not all... English teachers are introducing the Cornell note-taking system. Well, we tried to, but it seems that the Social Studies and Science departments beat us to the punch. One week into school and freshman are already sick of Cornell notes. That's great news! Keep up the great work and our scholars will be Cornell notetaking pros in no time. 1 Lake Worth High School 6

7 Career Technology Education (CTE) Architecture and Construction-- This first week of school students are working with Mr. Delaney to build a solid foundation for the rest of the school year. BIM--Starting Word for Windows 2010 in both BIM and BIM 2. CAD and Yearbook-- Working on the yearbook--sales will start soon--$45.00 each. Law Enforcement and Fire Fighting-- Fire students will be working on their first certification called Community Emergency Response Team. FCS-Human Services--Students created a project researching what are the Family and Consumer Sciences. FCCLA--FCCLA week is next week in all FCS classes. Dues will be collected beginning September 1st and will be $ FCS-Service Learning--Students are getting to know each other. FCS-Culinary--Students will be issued their brand new Culinary and Advanced Culinary Uniforms next week and we will work toward our official Grand Opening in October!!! Professional Communications- Students have been working on interpersonal communications and leadership activities. Agriculture- Students are learning about FFA and meetings will begin soon. 8 Foreign Language Several students took a placement test this week and tested out of Spanish 1. Spanish 1 made circle maps the first week of school about themselves and who influenced them in their lives. Fine Arts UIL ACADEMICS UIL Academics is excited for the new year! This year, LW will have the first ever Speech and Debate Team. We will be competing in many competitions through out the school year. The contest events include: LD Debate, CX Debate, Extemporaneous Speaking, Prose and Poetry. CX debaters will be attending a clinic on September 5th at Baylor University. LW Speech and Debate Team will begin competing at their first tournament in Lovejoy on September 19th. Choir - 9/11/15 - Will perform a 9/11 tribute Choir - 10/3/15 - Region Choir Auditions Choir - 10/13/15 - Fall Concert - MS & HS Choirs Band - 10/3/15 - First Marching Competition - USBands Marching Music Series Presented by Music in Motion Theater - Currently Preparing for their Holiday Production and One Act Play UIL Academics will be going to the University of Texas- Tyler to attend the UIL Student Activities Conference on September 12th. 9 MATH DEPARTMENT We are very excited to be starting a new year! We have a couple new faces in our department and around 240 incoming freshmen that we would like to welcome. First, welcome all incoming freshman. We are overjoyed to have you here at the high school. We hope your next four years are full of memories and learning to prepare you for a career or college life! The following are our new teachers in the math department. New to Lake Worth High School is Mr. Blanton. Mr. Blanton is a graduate of Texas A&M - Texarkana and is coming to us with four years of experience teaching Algebra I at Jacksonville High School in Jacksonville, Texas. Mr. Blanton will continue to teach Algebra I for Lake Worth High School. The school has high expectations from Mr. Blanton as he brings years of success on the STAAR Test. Also new is Mrs. Haddad. Mrs. Haddad did a great job teaching, Ms. Flores classes last year while Ms. Flores was out on maternity leave. Previously Mrs. Haddad worked at DAEP. We are very happy to have her join us at Lake Worth High School. She is doing an excellent job teaching both Geometry and Algebra II. 10 Special Education We welcome three new teachers, Ms. Majcher in Life Skills, Ms. Matthews in Behavior, and Coach Hensley transferring from the math department. We also have two new aides, Ms. Runkel and Ms. Blanton ready to serve our students. The department has welcomed several new students and is preparing for yet another productive year. Content Mastery Any student may use CM at his or her teacher s discretion. The teacher decides whether the student who requests to go to CM will benefit. CM is for academic assistance. There are three primary reasons for a student to use one of the desks or two computers in Content Mastery: 1. The student needs a test read to him or her. 2. The student needs additional assistance during independent practice (homework). 11 Social Studies Science The social studies department is very excited for the upcoming school year. We are also excited to announce that we have four new teachers that will be teaching social studies this year. We are happy to welcome Coach Michael Drake, who will be teaching U.S. History and Psychology and Sociology; Coach Truitt Miller, who is teaching World History and World Geography; Coach Brianne McClellan, who is teaching World Geography, and Lake Worth is happy to welcome Coach Stephen Swaim, who will be teaching World History, Government and Economics. Coach Joseph Shehan has taken over as Social Studies Department Head, and he will be teaching AP US History, AP Government, Government and Economics. The Lake Worth High School Science department is in full swing this year. Our biology classes will be lead by Coach Gray and Coach Woodson. Our chemistry and IPC courses will be headed by Coach Palmer and Coach Griggers. The physics classes will lead the way with Coach Maehs and Ms. Graves. Our science specialty classes this year will be: Forensics, instructed by Coach Woodson and Ms. Graves Anatomy and Physiology, instructed by Coach Palmer Engineering, instructed by Coach Maehs AP Biology, instructed by Coach Palmer AP Environmental Science, instructed by Ms. Graves The science department is excited for this year. 12 AVID The AVID department and site team of Lake Worth High School had a busy summer! The site team attended the AVID Summer Institute in Dallas. Ms. Amy Graves is back as AVID elective teacher and coordinator. And everyone please welcome, Mrs. Michelle Pinson, as our second AVID elective teacher! Our AVID classes are amazing! We would both like to say thank you to everyone who is using Cornell notes in your classes! You are Awesome! Encourage everyone to become organized, as well. If we are all in this together, we can do wonderful things for our kids! Bullfrog Alley IN OTHER NEWS We will kick off the Bullfrog Alley, Friday September 4 at the Varsity football game. Please, come and join us for the fun events from 5:30 7:00 and then watching the Lake Worth Bullfrog game. The events will consist of a bounce house, face painting, sucker tree and bean bag toss. Hope to see you!!!!!! FCCLA FCCLA is awesome! We are face painting (free) and selling Bullfrog mugs for $15 at this week s football game. We will be hosting a leadership conference at the high School October 19. We are currently holding our membership drive. Students can join for Homecoming The homecoming parade is October 5 th, The parade will start at 7:00pm. More details can be received by ing jthorpe@lwisd.org or calling Juli Thorpe at the high school x3107. The homecoming theme is 2015 Our Pride Cannot be Tamed. The Lake Worth Bullfrog varsity football team will be competing against the Castleberry High School Lions on Friday night of that week. Lake Worth High School 12
