We plan to raffle off baskets and significant items of value as an additional fundraising opportunity during the Golf Outing. We are requesting donations to help build several nice themed baskets. Below are a few ideas of what we are looking for. We also welcome any other completed baskets as well, tickets for sporting events (Tigers, Pistons, Lions, Red Wings, etc.) and gift cards. 3 President s Report By Jim Dickinson President, Board of Directors Welcome to a New Phase of our Newsletter This is the first edition of our newsletter to go totally digital. As you know, we have been including reminders in the previous newsletters that we would be digital come the August newsletter. Please check out the website at downriverarc.org or look us up on Facebook at The Arc Downriver. Golf Outing Soon Our single largest fundraiser of the year is just around the corner, scheduled for Sunday, August 19: our Annual Golf Outing. There are many opportunities to participate, including hole sponsorships and golfing. Forms are included in this month s Pyramid. Monies raised from this event go toward programs that benefit your child/loved one. Thumb through and read the rest of this newsletter; all of these programs and activities happen because of your contribution. Please support the Arc by getting involved. Thank you. Special Sports Picnic Planned This year s All Sports Picnic occurs Saturday, August 11 at the Flat Rock Elks on the corner of Telegraph and Vreeland Roads. Fun begins at 12 noon. Bring a side dish to pass around, hot dogs and hamburgers provided. 3

This is not 'free-hand' painting, so painters do not need to be artistic. Anyone can create a sign that will look like an artist painted it. YOU will be the artist and it will turn out amazing! These hand-crafted signs make great gifts and are also a great way to personalize a space in your home or office. Advance registration is required to have your custom template made and to ensure your materials are ready! Please reserve your spot no later than August 15th. Once you select your design, please notate personalization, if applicable, and choose the size of your sign: 12 x 12 or 4 x 24 and you will be able to choose your own colors of paint on Saturday, August 25th. SCRIP FUNDRAISER FOR THE ARC DOWNRIVER Scrip fundraising is a no-selling program that allows families, friends and neighbors to raise money for The Arc Downriver. Scrip is just another way to pay for everyday purchases using gift cards in place of cash, checks, and credit cards. You purchase gift cards from The Arc Downriver office at face value, we order those cards from Great Lakes Scrip Center at a reduced price. The difference is an instant rebate for The Arc Downriver. All new athletes will be in Group 2 at 10:00 am. PLAYERS: Must be a current Arc member. Must have a signed Special Olympics Athlete Release Form and a current Special Olympics Athlete Medical Form (physical) on file in The Arc Downriver Office. The physical cannot expire before the end of the season. If the current physical expires before the end of the season, a new physical must be submitted prior to the start of bocce ball. Physicals must renew every 3 years. Must be 16 years or older to participate. Must wear appropriate clothing. Must return the permission slip below to the Arc office by Wednesday, September 5th. The 4-week sessions take place during Adventure Club hours (5:30-7:00 pm) and are taught by one of Downriver s finest artists, Patricia Izzo. Artwork completed throughout the year will be displayed each November when we have the Opening Reception for the Art at The Arc Exhibit. Class size is limited to enable our instructor to spend more one-on-one time with each student so please register early as classes fill up quickly.
